That's a bit mean. They could have given you some extras and if you did make a mistake you could have torn it in half and returned if with the perfect cards so they could keep a close tab on all cards.

I thought you were going to give a snobby answer like "true artists don't make mistakes"

I have a print of a Renoir with interesting "mistakes" on... but then again I suppose he's not a true artist

To our Artist friends: Have any of you received any feedback from Topps about your work since Evolutions was released? Topps has to be pleased with the success of this set!

From what I've heard from Topps and those that talk to Topps, they're REALLY happy with the over all quality and success of the Evolutions set and sketch cards

They should be very happy, the sketches are great, the base and chase cards were well designed.
My concern is based on Topps history with sets if they do another LOTR set or the next one in this general design I worry that they will overproduce it. If I understand this correctly Topps sets tend to be produced based on how many preorders they have. I think we were lucky to get 13+ sketches a case on average because of so few preorders.
Look at what happened with all the recent Star Wars sets Heritage, ROTS, and ROTS widevision. I bought 4 boxes of Widevision as I was told it should be 1 auto per box as that has always been the way it was for previous widevision. Well four boxes no auto's at all. I stay away from all Topps products after being somewhat burned with ROTK, Heritage, ROTS, and WROTS.
If the product comes out and insert levels are good I will order from there. Look at LOTR Trilogy Chrome that is a fantastic set packed with inserts (approx 3 a box), but people didn't want anything to do with it after ROTK and ROTK Update were pretty bad.

Well I am happy to hear that Topps is pleased but I think the success of the Evolutions set is due to the quality work by Artists like you four who we have been talking to - CC, Cat, Grant, and Allison. All four of your works are sought out by ebayers due to the wonderful artwork you presented. There are other Artists to be commended as well but you 4 have put out consistent quality work that is very appealing to so many of us! Thank you for your efforts.

Savage, I think you said it best for the whole bunch of us. The artists who put all the effort in deserve heaps of credit and I hope it pays back on the commission sketch card side of things. We all know that you don't get paid what you deserve for putting all the time in, but you do it for the pride of your work and collectors (of course you might have other reasons too). You should know it does not go unappreciated by us. I was one of the strongest critics of this set and am glad I am typing and not speaking because my foot has been in my mouth since I saw these cards. I even like alot of the one I didn't think I would at all seeing initial sketches on LOTRsketch site. I am even going to keep my Legolas Norton which I never thought I would like to keep a Norton sketch. Justice isn't done for these sketches unless you see them in person.

It means a lot to hear how much our work is appreciated. While I wish I could've painted every card like this latest aftermarket, my schedule just wouldn't allow. This will be available shortly on Ebay. I'll post a link. I hope it finds a good home:) Thanks for all the kind words everyone! CC

Wow! I'll be looking for your link. Just wondering, do you enjoy doing work this small or do you prefer to do larger pieces? Which do you think is harder to do?

I would have thought working on a small scale would be harder, but I suppose it all depends on what people are used to working with - large canvasses or comic strips ... Just my ten penn'orth!

I found working tiny difficult..... I went to school for art (amoung other things), and one of the first things they taught us all was to break the habit of working little...*sigh*
