So how many of the costume cards are there? Also, are they going to be in just the Hobby packs, or both hobby & retail?  The list Roz posted from the wrapper information only lists 7 memorabilia cards. They are only in the Retail boxes, hobby boxes have only sketches. Ed |

Look at any one of his cards on the lotr sketch site, every SINGLE card is just amazing. If I pulled just one of his cards I would be the happiest person alive, because they ALL are incredable

WOW!! Those fine art cards really spoil us all, don't they? We have to keep reminding ourselves that those are the exception to the rule. But it sure would be something to get one.
Now for a question:
I've been on the Topps site but I can't find a checklist for the stained glass cards. Does anyone know how many there are and who they are? They look really good in my white backed 9 pocket pages (thanks Ed)! Also, am I right to assume that the level A and B cards were made for the complete 72 card set?

I wish someone at Topps had the foresight to eliminate over 70% of the Artists they hired to do this set. I wish Topps concentrated on the realistic Artists whose great work you see garnering top dollar for their work - why - because it is wonderful, appealing, and on target. I would rather have seen Topps pay the realistic Artists more money to do many more cards so we could all have enjoyed them and had a realistic shot at getting one instead of just the select few. Some of the sketch cards out there are just pitiful.  |

Perhaps Ed, but the beauty of a piece of art is always in the beholder- for instance you might not like RAMonelli's toony LOTR art but I love it. When Mark did LOTR character's 'Pirates' style everyone loved it and asked for him to do more... I must assume that everyone was being polite because if he'd auditioned and taken part in this set you'd all be slating his work. But I believe that art is an interpretation with the artists pencil (or other medium) of what's important to the artist about that face or character, and it's certainly an objective thing. To me (and I know to you Ed) LOTR pre-dates the movies. I think in many cases RAMonelli has been inspired by the books rather than the guys who played the parts in Peter Jackson's version, and I like that. I've bought only one sketch so far as I'm waiting to see what the boxes produce, it's RA Monelli's Einstein Bilbo (Bilbo with Einstein's hair ) and I can't wait to see it in the flesh. I'm fascinated in interesting depictions of the characters, I love LOTR art in all it's guises (and although I worship any art done by John Howe - doing photo-realistic faces of LOTR characters isn't (from the small amount of his work that I've seen, and I may very well be wrong) his speciality. By your standards if John Howe had been on that list of artists, he would have been eliminated. To me, that's just crazy. His imagination and creation of stunning fantastical places, and weaponry is out of this world. I think it would have been cool if some people had done "shards of Narsil" sketches or weaponry as well as characters, but maybe they had instructions from Topps prohibiting that. |

Don't worry Roz, there's no need to protect me, I'm not in the slightest bit sensitive. People like what they like, but in my book if you don't like cartoon inspired interpretations of LOTR characters then it's probably better to choose sketches you like on eBay rather than buy boxes or cases, it would probably turn out cheaper in the end (but then again I don't know much about trading cards  ). |

I don't have a problem with cartoon-type sketches. What I don't like is when an artist puts a few scribbles on a card and thinks that's good enough, or when you can't tell what's depicted in the sketch. Not every card has to be a mini piece of art. It seems to me that those artists who do not put in a certain amount of effort are doing themselves a disservice, not to mention that seeing some of the less desirable cards makes me prefer to spend $40 on eBay to buy a decent sketch rather than spend that money on a box. That hurts the card manufacturer, too. Of course, the thing to keep in mind is that Topps and the studio approved all of the sketches that were inserted in packs. By the way, I happen to like Mark's artwork! |

My case... Here's what I pulled. Box 1 Gollum/Mike D (Duron?) & Arwen/Shum (numbered 324) Box 2 Hobbit/Hodges? & Aragorn (B R something???, could be Rood?) Box 3 Gilmli/Martinez Box 4 Theoden/Booth & Witch King/Fabbri Box 5 Treebeard/Benjamin? & Witch King/Frampton Box 6 - Shelob?/Dalla Vecchia Box 7 (be still my heart) - Elrond/R Wh? & Legolas/Kayanan Box 8 - Sam/Parsons & Gandalf?/Woodside? Needless to say, I'm VERY VERY pleased with getting a Kayanan, especially one I admired off the lotrsketchcards.com site. I'd actually JUST thought as I was breaking open the last pack "where's my Kayanan?" when there he was |
