I'm so not sure if this is the right place for this info, but General Discussion made the most sense

So, I wanted to take a minute and talk about a special part of the upcoming Philly Show - the Charity Auction and Raffle. Specifically, the Raffle part. But let me give you a bit of background first.

My name is Joanna Kohlbus, and yes, I do work for Rittenhouse Archives, but I'm also the Charity Coordinator for Non-Sport Update (NSU for short), and I organize (or am organizing) the Charity Event. We will be raising money for 2 different charities at this event - CCFA, which is the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, and Starlight/Starbright, which helps sick and dying children.

The overall plan is two-part. The first part, I'll only speak briefly about, mostly because I don't have all the details worked out - the Auction. Due to the generousity of the manufacturers in the trading card industry, we plan to hold an auction of varying items at the Philly Show. As cool as that is, the other part is even cooler!

The Raffle - At Memorabilia, the raffle was limited to a small group of collectors, but we are expanding the Raffle portion of this event. We are now working on a way for you to participate by purchasing the raffle tickets through the mail and online (if I can swing that online part!) - so everyone gets to play this time! Winners will be announced at the show, and if not present, the prizes will be mailed out to the winners! I'll have more specific details shortly.

Now tell me, how cool is that?

See, I like this particular job because I get see the generous spirit of people worldwide, which renews and refreshes my own spirit. And believe me, that's a good feeling.

This is the time when I start asking for donations - donations from manufacturers, from dealers and distributors, from collectors. If you want to donate, but aren't sure what, just ask me.

If you are planning on participating in the raffle and are concerned that you might win your own prize - don't worry. I've already thought of that and created a system by which noone will win their own donation  

Sound like I'm begging? Maybe a little, but it's only because I am very passionate about this. So, if you're coming to the show - I'll see you there! and if not, please consider participating in some other way - either by being a donor, or by buying a raffle ticket - or both!

I've already starting accumulating prizes for the raffle portion - some very cool cards coming in already!

If Rob can't do it no one can... but if you need a hand from Mark then let me know (or I suppose you could let Mark know directly but that would just be far too efficient And if you want a security check we have a talented white hacker on the forum too.

If we can enter online (remotely) this is going to be a HUGE AWESOME Charity event so good luck.

I've got my boys working on some sort of form that people would fill out and then via the wonders of Paypal send me the money. Ideally, then I would send out first an electronic confirmation incl. the ticket numbers, followed up by physically mailing the ticket stubs to the person. Winners announced at the show, and any prizes not picked up get mailed out.

Seems fairly straightforward But they're still working on the specifics. I'm a terrible taskmaster I've been told!

As always, I'm up for more, bigger, better ideas So feel free to share - my brain is only so big (as my son is fond of saying)

I don't mean to speak out of turn but would it be better to assign people a certain set of numbers online and email them to them?

Obviously all the online tickets are going to sell before the ones at the show, so you can assume all the early ones in the raffle ticket book are onliners depending on the order in which they bought their tickets, say you get 350 tickets purchased online then you just put the tickets into the raffle without mailing them out to people?

Otherwise I can see you spending $0.80 on all international sales and $0.37 on all national ones on posting unnecessary items?? I think if people don't trust you to ensure that you put the right number of raffle tickets aside then they wouldn't be partaking in your raffle anyway.

Just my tuppence worth... am I thinking too "net" now?

Since I am attending the show, would I be able to buy a raffle ticket there?  Also, will you be able to view the prizes?

Everyone attending the show is encouraged to purchase their tickets there The prizes themselves won't be viewable (don't ask) but we will post a list, something to the effect of :

WIN one of 100 prizes! Prizes include :
Star Trek Patrick Stewart Autograph Card
Alias Season 3 Michael Vartan Costume Card
.
.
.
and list those prizes which we think will attract the most people Of course, since the prizes are being donated, I am at the mercy of what people send me Though - and please don't laugh... I am spending considerable time on eBay buying up $1 autos/costumes/prop cards - just to make sure I have some nice stock I do feel like such a hypocrite though I mean, I'm constantly debating with dealers the fact that they start their auctions too low, and here I am taking advantage of it.

As for the ticketing - you see, I wasn't sure anyone would trust me! Maybe I'll make it optional - you know, check this box if you want the physical ticket mailed to you - It's definately something to consider - though, when it comes to stamps, I'm buried in them! Just got to get to the post office to 'cash in' all these IRC's

Do you know what the prices are going to be, or is all that still up in the air?

Prices for the raffle tickets? Probably $5 per ticket - I think that's on par with what was charged at Memorabilia - but nothing's set in stone yet.

Sounds like a fantastic idea, i couldnt make it to the last one at Mem, but i'll definatly enter online if its possible.

I love the idea but for me i would rather have an email about what number i received because buy the time the postie got it here it would be all over anyway.

I take it that the $5.00 meant $5.00 UK???

We've got some nice stuff being donated - a sealed box of Angel Season 5, lots of cool autographed cards, some costumes, Alias Tangled Memorabilia set, lots and lots of stuff!  

I have finalized details on both ordering online and through the mail. All details will be posted on March 1st (ie, where to go to order the raffle tickets, etc.)

Any questions on how to donate an item for the raffle, or just feel like asking me anything -- just drop me a line.

And you did say we can buy these at the show, right?  I will be there on Saturday though.  Is that okay?

You'll miss all the raffles on Friday, but yes, you will be able to buy tickets both Friday and Saturday at the show. All day Friday and Saturday just in the AM.

Hmmm, so this is in addition to the normal door prizes they have, I assume.  Let me think about this one, as I might want to buy them in advance so that I can be entered in the Friday drawings as well.
