: Re: MM scans and comments

It really doesn't suprise me as it is the first signing and probably the hardest pull for autos. with the high cost of cases i think dealers will want good prices for these cards or it will just not be worth breaking cases

: Re: MM scans and comments
: pinksamstar October 25, 2006, 10:08:56 PM
oh my god :o how crazy are these prices going to be! we should be honoured to get a look at them let alone buy them for the prices theyre going, if only i could win the lottery.....

Am I missing something here ??????? Here's most of all the costume cards and the swatches are all very plain and dull or we have already seen this before many times over on other costume cards,,,,where's the hype over this set???..Can't speak for the prop cards yet because I've only seen a few, but have been very disappointed so far with all the scans on  :ebay: so far

So, now it begins.  :D Autos are way overpriced IMO. But it was the same with the last set, Dan Auto began with BINs of more than $1000 (and have been sold for that, Quad for more), now Dan is about $400. That's normal at the first day and no auto card of this set should have a higher value at the end than the Dan Auto IMO.  ::)

The costume swatches are not very exciting, that's right (but also normal). Props will be much nicer, i'm sure.

Here are my pulls from my first 5 boxes.  I just love the Marauders Map & Lupin Shirt and the Weasley twin's double costume. 8)

I must have the prop/costume! :)  Is the C4 Goyle green or black?  My computer screen seems to be having trouble with that color.

Hey, wait a minute!  You've opened boxes and haven't posted the breakdowns?  For shame! ;)

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Anna October 25, 2006, 11:01:37 PM
I thought you might like to see what the infamous coin cards look like.  The cards have a cutout on the front and back of the card for the coin to show through.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/AnnaO/MM%20Cards/CC1_Front.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/AnnaO/MM%20Cards/CC1_Back.jpg)

And here are the box toppers and the case card I got.  The case card doesn't scan that well, but it shows Fawkes flying in the Chamber of Secrets.

And here are the fronts and backs of the foil chase set:

The basilisk skin rocks!

: Re: MM scans and comments

The same seller also has a GOF Christmas card.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Bryanjs14 October 25, 2006, 11:38:31 PM
Is it just me or does it seem like the Majority of the costume cards are just reused costumes from previous sets?

We have a Grimm Fur with the same Grey shirt from the POAU (or was it POA?) set.
We have the same Lupin jacket with the same Marauders Map
The Same Cedric and Krum costumes
The same Tie and Shirt from SS

the props are all new, and that is a sigh of relief for me...but it seems like a lot of the costumes Artbox just had scraps laying around and thought they would make a premium set out of the scraps?

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Tower October 25, 2006, 11:39:04 PM
Yes, Cindy, and i like the christmas dual prop better than the rarer t-shirt/grim card.   :P

Hey, another great basilisk, you both pulled the same props.  8)

: Re: MM scans and comments
: ECL October 25, 2006, 11:48:48 PM
There are some nice cards and the designs are great, but i'm a little bit dissapointed about the lack of new costumes! i was hoping for more originality, like different size swatches!  Seems like some of the dual costumes don't even have pictures of the characters on them!  I do like the broom bristles alot, and the basilisk though.

I'm kinda worried that i was tricked into paying so much more for these boxes than the usual ones  :'(

Good luck! :)

Right now, there are only two cards left that are unknown -- PC1 and P5.  If anyone pulls these or see them on eBay, please let me know!

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Sharon October 26, 2006, 12:31:45 AM
Well they have been a long time coming but these cards are gorgeous :-*.  I love the Lupin dual (whoever thought they would want another Lupin shirt  ;) ) and the broom bristles are quite unique.  I can't wait till mine arrive  ;D.  In the meantime I will keep my fingers crossed for John and Jackie  :o= ;D

Anyone have any theories for PC1 and P5?

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Bryanjs14 October 26, 2006, 12:45:08 AM
hmmm...my theory?

very limited and very expensive lol

That's too funny!   I've done that before, only the sprinting is usually followed by me falling on my face like an idiot.   :-\

Though the costume cards aren't that exciting, I do REALLY love the presentation of these cards.  They are absolutely lovely.  I do LOVE the Lupin/Map dual card--it's fantastic.

Does anyone have a pic of the "regular" boxes the cards come in? I saw that it might be a bit different from the previous sets' packaging.  How is the resin box--do you like how it looks?

Here's an auction for the resin box that shows top and side views:

You know, I really love the regular boxes.  I am so, so glad that they put them in something special, rather than have them be the same as the previous sets.  Maybe now distributors won't have to field too many complaints about people not getting resin boxes  :o=--I really think the regular ones are lovely.

The base cards are just a hair thicker than the previous HP cards.  Here's a scan of the first 9 cards of the set.  The face of the base cards have gold foil all around it (the darker corner filigrees and lettering on the cards are gold foil).  The front of the card is a matte finish and the backs are glossy.  The matte cardstock feels like regular paper.

The seller is clever and i would do the same, placing a very high BIN. He had last time luck with early Dan and Quad auctions and maybe he has it again, there's always anyone... But waiting with buying would be clever, too. ;) I won't forget that the first Whomping Willow sold for $1,500, much later for less than $100.  8)

That's a beautiful variant and one I would love to have in my set but at $500 ...ouch !!!!!
Save it for Edith she's the variant Queen

I think the broom bristles card is one of my favorites.  I really like how the brown stands out against the white of the card and the textures of the prop too.  I can't wait to see what the wand dual card looks like!

I like the Chudney Cannons poster prop.  Nice pic, Mike--it really shows the potential for some amazing variants!  ;) :D

We haven't seen PC1 yet (unless I missed that) so it could possibly be a Hermione costume and prop but I think thats my wishful thinking ;)

I am always wary of this seller though. He listed a pic of a varient fizzing whizbees card a while ago which i BIN'd and it turned out to just be a plain swatch. He seems to have a habit of posting the best looking cards, but sending you plain ones. He used that fizzing whizbees pic from what I saw, a couple of times for BIN's...suspect no one got the actual nice card, but just a plain swatch.

...I would just be wary and double check with him if the pictured card is the actual card you will recieve. But I have brought other cards from him in the past (LOTR) and he seemed quite ok to deal with and quick shipping.

I dont care much for another Lupin shirt (though I did sell mine...) but I really want that map! Some other fantastic prop cards there, but the costumes are a little dull at the moment...

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Trey October 26, 2006, 05:55:58 AM
I think the costumes with the pics of characters on them look really good, but I dont care for those with just pictures of scenery, I think its stupid really  ::)

Love all the prop cards ive seen so far though, they are all really nice!

Jackie, you had some excellent pulls! :D  You're the second US Shacker to pull two Sykes autos in a case.  Maybe the card is a little more common than we thought it would be. :)  Are you going to post some scans?

I totally agree.  At first it didn't really impress me, but after seeing it up close, it's a beautiful card.  And I like the idea of a "family" card of the two sisters.  :)

Here's a DP2 Wand & Quill card.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250043177156 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=1738318&mpre=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D250043177156)

This is Norbert's egg.  Why is it black?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250043175911 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=1738318&mpre=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D250043175911)

: Re: MM scans and comments
: grecopa October 26, 2006, 08:32:44 PM
Ha!  You beat me at posting the wand and quill!  I have no idea why the egg is black.  ???  Maybe it's shiney and the glare is making it look that way?

: Re: MM scans and comments
: ferdinand_the_yak October 26, 2006, 08:38:12 PM
Perhaps it is the inside of the egg, if you look at the shell fragment at the top of the card picture, the curved inside is black (or a very dark colour).

: Re: MM scans and comments
: kbmum October 26, 2006, 08:42:17 PM
I see that now.  To me, it's kind of strange to show the black inside instead of the white/off-white outside part of the shell.  Not that I would complain to pull it! ;)

: Re: MM scans and comments
: HPfamily October 26, 2006, 08:44:56 PM
WOW! What great cards, Rich!!
Your Christmas card actually looks like a Christmas
card!!   And the Cannons Poster!! COOL!!

Your Twin dual costume is very similar to mine..
has stitching in the red swatch too. Also with
McGonagall!! Nice pulls!!  ;D

: Re: MM scans and comments
: ferdinand_the_yak October 26, 2006, 09:02:24 PM
Actually, I might be wrong - take a look at the shell fragment at the bottom of the picture - you can tell it's slightly curved by the shadow it throws onto the table. And the inside is white. Perhaps the egg was double coated? Black inside and white outside? A doubly reinforced egg would make sense as it is a dragon egg ;D

It will be interesting to see if we get white and black variants of this prop

I wish the edges of the egg prop in the card was more irregular, like the sorcerer's stone prop card.  It's a little bit funny looking as a rectangle in a circular cutout.

I like the emma auto alot!

Has anyone noticed that all the autos are just hold backs from the GOF update series ??......they don't really belong in the Memorable Moments style of card, if you put them in the GOF binder you wouldn't know the difference...Mo

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Tower October 27, 2006, 12:20:21 AM
Yes, that's true, but i expected the old GOF style, when we were told before, that all the autos will be GOF Autos. But it's a bit strange, they are really holdbacks. And of course i decided they will go into my MM binder though.  8)

LOVE the Christmas Card prop you pulled, Rich!  :o

Love the Emma auto as well, but the pen used is really not good!  :P

I thought when Hargid pulls Norbert's Egg out of the boiling water the outside was a black/brown kind-of glossy mix and the inside was white.  Maybe my memory is fooling me, though.  ::)

Nice!  The more I see these cards the more the set is growing on me.  I have a question, are the swatches on the single costume cards bigger than the ones from previous sets?  I can't really tell, but it just feels like that to me.  I can't wait to get my boxes and see them in person!

Okay!  I have been staying away until I opened my boxes, and to say, I was more than surprised since I knew of none of the cards I pulled (except one).  I must say that I am more than happy.

The Chudley Cannon poster (number 28) is amazing :o ;D!!!

And the Riddle Diary (number 22) is actually the outside of the book, not the pages like all the others we have seen so far (I am so thrilled to have this card) ;D:

Oh, and am I missing one?  Here you go ;D!

This was from my three boxes :)

Is the Chudley Canon Poster card a misplaced swatch or is that made like that?

Not sure what you mean.  The scan is big, so you need to scroll over.  The picture is of the center of the poster, I believe, where there are the players.  It is one of their hands pushing on the side of a curtain or something.  Very cool looking.

Thanks!

WOW you did well IMO RNS.

John I think you did pretty well on your two cases you posted breakdowns of so far.  Well at least with the autos.  I think if you can avoid the DE auto/costumes that is a great success.  Also looks like you did pretty well with double costumes.  Love the quills and wand double prop too. Hope the good karma continues.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: rns91294 October 27, 2006, 11:02:34 AM
Yup, three boxes, six inserts :)

I agree, John, you have done well with your autos from two cases :D

Great stuff, guys!  Thanks so much for sharing.  I was a little bummed to not get a Jason Isaacs or Maggie Smith auto, but at least I pulled a Watson.  The pen she used sucks on mine too though.  Did she sign any with a good, fresh pen?

Here's a thought: I wonder if Artbox issued another Hotbox in this series?  I hope someone here gets it!

Keep up with the great pulls,

                                      Greg

Sara Sara sara you have the best box and case luck ;D Is it actually a crumpled part of the poster or is it drawn like that? Your Tom Riddle Diary Prop is also dark and I've only seen light ones before... next time I buy a box you are picking it out for me

WELL DONE GUYS!

: Re: MM scans and comments
: grecopa October 27, 2006, 07:50:52 PM
Sara, you have AMAZING luck!  Congratulations!  I'm thinking about buying a diary prop.  I'm leaning toward the black varient.  What does everyone think about the black cover vs. the cream page of that prop?  Any preferrence?

Sara, you have AMAZING luck!  Congratulations!  I'm thinking about buying a diary prop.  I'm leaning toward the black varient.  What does everyone think about the black cover vs. the cream page of that prop?  Any preferrence?

One of each - then you don't have to choose ;)

I'd go for the black. It looks better against the card design, in my opinion

Thanks, Beck. And thanks to all of you. I hope you enjoy the scans.
And if you want to see more scans check out my photobucket pages in the HP Memorable Moments album.
It's open to the public.

I think the correct term to start with is.... WOW  :o :o :o

Maureen that Bertie Botts is the best one I have seen so far and there are some beauties out there.  And I am going to try and find a good picture of the Chudley Cannons poster so that I can find Sara's bit (Sara if we ever meet up I am going to make you open some packets for me  ;)).

I know a lot of the costumes are repeats for this set but by putting them in as doubles they are like new items.  A little birdy has told me my boxes are in the country so hopefully I will have something to post next week :o=  ;D

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Sharon October 28, 2006, 02:12:15 AM
OK this is the best I could find but as it is on a tee shirt it is not that clear.  I also don't think this is the picture on the poster they have used - that looks like real people.

Hey, that bedspread would have made an awesome prop!

That bedspread and Umbridge's carpet in OOTP would make really cool props.

According to IMDB: "The carpet in Professor Umbridge's office cost £50,000 to make."  So having a card limited to 100 with a piece of that carpet would be like having $1,000 in your hands.  8) 8)

I like the bed spread so I hope it doesnt get made into a card ;D Alot of people on the Madam Malkins Yahoo Group is making the spread. I'll have to look around for pictures :)

: Re: MM scans and comments

Karen, that was a really great autograph selection.

Too bad about the RESIN box, but it shamelessly and painfully appears to be the rule rather than the exception that the RESIN box is going to be damaged. That is worse than pitiful because ANY idiot-with-half-a-brain could have anticipated the danger of such a heavy item and designed a suitable shipping box.   >:() And especially in light of all the RESIN box hype and the extra cost. I hope that ARTBOX made 100% backup for these boxes. If they want the damaged ones returned for replacement that's going to hurt ye 'ole purse for shipping them back. Geeze! The pain for overseas victims!!  (:D#  Maybe to save the collector money Artbox may allow a scheme such as "snap off the Lid's top point" and just send that in as proof of ownership instead of the entire heavy box or lid.
Then again...

I have posted case 3 and it had a "perfect" RESIN box. One in three isn't good.

You are so right.  >:()

The pain for overseas victims!!

No chance for them i would say. And i can't imagine that it's possible for me to get a box which is not damaged, the way to me is so much longer than inside US, too many chances on the way.  :-\

: Re: MM scans and comments

Well, the RESIN Boxes are a problem, no doubt.

But let's not "throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bath-water".

I find the distribution pretty good and some of the swatches are to die for, e.g.

DC7 #208-210

Hi everyone:

These are the case incentives:

25 case incentive (limited to 50 cards), Sirius Letter (and i know this time are there some with writing).
10 case incentive (limited to 98 cards), Dark Arts Book
5 case incentive (limited to 135 cards), Book of Water Plants

Yes, the golden parallel coin card is the 2 case incentive (not numbered).

: Re: MM scans and comments
: beatles99 October 29, 2006, 04:38:55 AM
I can't still exactly quite get this through my head why they need so many incentive cards per set????
375 cases work out to
16 x 25 case incentive =400............what are the other 34 for
38 x 10 case incentive =380.............60 more than needed
75 x 5 case incentive =375............60 extra of these....way more than a 20% replacement overage ???

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Tower October 29, 2006, 04:57:16 AM
Well, of course you can make such a calculation. But i like that there are more cards, it makes it easier to get one of them for a reasonable price, 50 is still hard enough. And they go to the market, for example, more than 20 SS Train Tickets were sold although only 16 were necessary for the cases. Artbox gives them away and that's good.
Yes, i like it, the GOFU wands were too horrible for the collectors.  :-\

Thanks!  I have been away for a wedding, do I just got back on.

The picture on our dark arts is flat.  It is not crumpled.  That is exactly how it looks.  You can definitely make out that it is a players hand with a glove on, and he seems to be pushing back some sort of curtain or cloth or something.  If you look at the picture on the wall behind Ron's bed, it looks like there are some Chudley Cannon players in the center of the picture.  That could be where it is from.  This picture on the swatch looks very real, just like you see it in the scan.  It does look crumpled, but I assure you, it is not ;)

As for the diary, I much prefer the black version.  The inside pages are plain, whereas the black version has the same texture as the regular boxes that came with this set.  The card is also very thik (like the coin cards).  Anyone know how the ones with the inside pages are?  Thick or thin like the costumes?

Wow John :o  Amazing!!!! Love the variant.

As for luck, I don't think it is me, as I never win anything, but my husand always does.  Since he opens the boxes with me, it has to be him that has the luck.  So if you guys ever run in to us, it is him you want to open your packs or pick out your boxes

Jackie, you did have a great cse.  Bet you were jumping for joy with that Dual Weasly costume ;)

I remember seeing abook that looked like snake skin at SDCC. Any one know what that was from?

Nice cards John.  I like the Dark Arts book a lot.

Hey, I am surprised to see so many Smith autos.  Could it be that she did indeed sign more than we all expected and Emma signed the least?

: Re: MM scans and comments
: LikORish-Spider October 29, 2006, 11:06:46 PM
The second Ci1 is nicer than the first. The scan doesn't do it justice.
Yes it looks like the Maggie Smith is more common than was rumored, but it may be that the cases with them broke first and she may dry up.

I've opened 4 5 cases, My autos are: (modified 5 10-31-06 or 31-10-06)
Emma 1
Maggie 1 2
Jason  3 4
Eric 4
David 5 7
Olivia 3 4
Philip 1
Richard 1

Total 19 24... so yes, some case may be short an autograph.

I'd like to point out that the Dark Arts book is not the "The Dark Arts: A Guide to Self-protection" book but the student notebook laying next it in the picture on the card :)

Most of the Magical Water Plants book cards are plain that I've seen :P I cant wait to see the Sirius letter with writing ;D

I kind of wish they'd photograph the plants book or something, anything other than a picture of harry sitting by a tree, even though that was from the film, and he had the book with him.  Artbox had the whole prop, maybe they could of just took a nice picture of it themselves!!

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Sharon October 30, 2006, 02:23:37 AM
I totally agree ECL.  Sometimes Artboxes choice of picture completely confuses me.  At first I thought it was a picture of Neville, which would have made a little more sense.  That said, it is still a gorgeous swatch  :-*

There definitely were case patterns with GOFU, but I hadn't started looking for them yet. Those darn "case clusters" for GOFU had me believing that DE2 was twice as common as DE1 for a while.

I guess I could have done the math for what to expect, but I was a bit disappointed to pull a duplicate auto and two duplicate costumes from a single case.

I was really pleased to say the least they were in my eyes pretty much the perfect 2 cases. I opened 11 cases of GOFU in the end and never found a Daniel or a Quad so was really worried about this sets collation but these cases have shut me up good and proper especially after my cases of Masterpieces being so good.

When reading peoples breakdowns I don't think it registers how many great cards they pull. But seeing them all I just thought that was 2 cases worth. I had to take a few minutes to convince myself it was out of one case.

Great pulls Rich!!  On your riddle diary, is that a piece of the black cover on the left side of the swatch?  Is your card thick?  We have the black variation and it is a very thick card (like the coin cards).  I was wondering if the white variation was the same.

Howdy guys, well the riddle diary props are both the exact same thickness. Secondly the white variation is purely white with no variation in the color of the swatch, it is the way the scanner captured the card.
I am hoping the good pulls keep coming for all us shackers.

I'm surprised that you didn't pull even one Dementor case topper out of seven cases.  The other one is definitely a troll.  There's a scene in SS when Quirrell runs into the Great Hall and screams that there's a troll in the castle, then faints.

I just posted my pulls on the breakdown list.   :) I was really happy.  I wanted to pull a prop, which I NEVER pull, so it was a really great surprise! And I loved how they paired the Draco costume card with the Lucius auto card--father-son! I call it my death eater box.  ;)

****Just a little note, not that anyone needs it, but I thought I'd mention it--the Lucius auto card was in the LAST pack of the box and slightly stuck to one of the base cards--I barely saw it--make sure to check the fronts and backs of the base cards! I don't want anyone to toss a Minerva, Lucius, any auto card, or, heaven forbid, a Hermione!  :P

Great pulls, Bitsy! :)  And thanks for the note.  That problem does happen occasionally, especially with autos.  I certainly double checked all of my base cards.

Thank You, Cindy!  :)  What made it weird was that it was pretty well stuck flat and didn't feel thicker than the regular card--as I was sorting through the pack, I noticed a flash of the darker colors of the auto card and stopped to double check...glad I did, I would have been heart broken if I had thrown out an auto of any kind!  :'(.  I tell you, it has sure made me a major double-checker of ALL base cards!

Wonderful cards :D  John, how many more do you need for a master set?

Well, I have a master set now. I had to buy a Dementor Case Topper, A 25 case Ci and a PC1. Imagine out of 12 cases I got 8 Fawkes and 4 Trolls. Artbox really screwed up the case selection for multiple case orders. Statistically I figure I should have gotten 5F,5T,2D at least.
I read somewhere here that there were an estimated 150 Fawkes, 150 Trolls and 75 Dementors.

Out of the 8 Resin boxes I had (Counting the case I sold) 4 were defective/broken. I have four listed on ebay...no telling what condition they are in.
I wrote an e-mail to ARTBOX to ask there replacement policy but have not received an answer as of now.

Zack, some nice pulls.

Well, i thought that, but meanwhile i think, there were not more than 50 cards produced, this one is extremely rare. I can't believe that i had one in my only case. So bid for the one on ebay ending tomorrow, it's one of the rarest cards in the set. ;)

I guess I'll bundle up my broken lids and send the in. I also got a Lucius Malfoy that is smeared to send in as well.

Is this what's necessary for even international orders too? We've all already paid a fortune to buy over here (because of the added weight of the box and coin cards) surely they could ask us to send in a smaller piece as proof? Especially in my case where the box was in smithereens...

Dumb question I know but I am the resident Geek so humour me....

For those of you who bought multiple cases/boxes, what do you do with all the base cards and basic chase sets?  Do you make up sets and sell them or do you treat them as an acceptable loss and throw them out?  Assuming of course that you don't need to make a living out of selling the sets  ;)

Always wondered.....

There have been quite a few DE auto/costume cards on  :ebay:.  When I first heard of the autos for this set, I always considered the "major" or premium autos as Argus Filch, Frank, Lucius, Minerva, and Hermione, with the last three (Malfoy, Hermione, Minerva) being the "big" ones.

I really didn't need another DE/costume card, since I pulled one from a GOFU box, which I really like, but that was enough for me.   :-\

Maybe the auto cards are not numbered because the artist each gets a personal quota to sign at shows, etc.  and there is no way to keep track of who signs, loses or who chucks how many.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Sharon November 11, 2006, 07:20:36 PM
Graham bought me a case of MM which I ripped open with relish on Thursday  ;D.  As a case it was OK - I got two cards I really wanted - the dual Lupin / Marauders Map and dual Weasley costume as well as more than I wanted - two Sykes autos  ::).  The collation was very poor - double costumes in addition to the autos and two single card boxes.  I know this is the same as everyone else has got but it is very poor planning from Artbox for such an expensive set.

However the really bad thing about this case was the lack of coin cards.  I have read the back of the packs and it implies that you are guaranteed 2 coin cards per box.  I actually had four boxes with no coin cards.  Now it is not that I particularly want these coins but I will be contacting Artbox out of principle.  One of the boxes without coins also only had one common costume card in it.  If I had bought these as single boxes I would have been absolutely gutted.

What I find hard to understand though is how a company (whoever Artbox gets to pack their cards) can manage to produce identical cases ie the same specials in each case but manage to leave out so many coin cards?  Has anyone else had this problem?

I think these are the nicest cards Artbox have done so far.  The artwork and quality of the cards is superb.  But I could have easily lived without a resin box and coin cards in exchange for either a lower selling price or, preferably, more inserts.  Maybe next time please Artbox  :o=

: Re: MM scans and comments
: pinksamstar November 11, 2006, 08:50:55 PM
i completely agree with you about the resin box, as nice as they are i havnt a clue what to do with mine, maybe a door stop....... ::)

but four boxes without coin cards!? thats a joke they add so much weight to each box, and they stated that each box will have 2 coin cards, id be gutted if i had opened a case and some had been empty just out of principle, i hope you get it sorted out, and as nice as this set is theres a down side to it with weight, im sure that they didnt need to make the resin box out of resin lol
congrats on your lupin/marauders card though thats a really really great pull!

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Bitsy November 12, 2006, 03:17:36 AM
Definitely contact Artbox, Sharon.  That's ridiculous that FOUR boxes didn't have coin cards--that's inexcusable.  I know they are not the most highly valued card, but they are nice and they were part of the bargain/promise from Artbox.  Essentially, you did not get what you bargained for and are entitled to them.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Bogleg November 12, 2006, 06:15:42 AM
On the same note of collation - I was opening the case with Sharon - a collector on Card Talk has noted that if you get X card in a box, you will also get XX in the same box. This will help you gauge what a case will hold. I suggest that if you buy a single box in person from a dealer, ask if they have any more boxes from the same case. This could end up giving you that much needed auto  ;D

: Re: MM scans and comments
: bush360 November 12, 2006, 08:48:53 AM
I agree there definately seems to be collation similarities within the cases as we found with GOFU. I only found one problem with the coin cards where I only found one Dobby coin and no GOF Harry coin in one box, as for the rest they turned out much like everyone elses.
As for the duplicate costumes ie. Goyle, Crabbe and Dursley there higher production run would suggest that most cases would get duplicates with only 375 cases doing the rounds.
I however was well pleased with my cases as the props and duals cover the case price in themselves. Cant wait for COS now.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Sharon November 12, 2006, 10:41:46 PM

I don't think you can say that collation was "lousy" just because of the duplicated costumes and autos.  If you run the numbers, there weren't enough higher-numbered costume cards to put 10 different into every case. They would have run out of scarcer costume cards early. Same thing for the dupes on "common" autos - for the total print run, they couldn't put 5 different in every case.

Of course, it might have been better if they had planned the set so that they could have made cases without dupes in the high chase.

I hope this doesn't look too confusing but I am actually quoting this from the Box Breakdown thread.

Maybe I should have been more specific about the lousy comment as I wasn't just referring to the autos, props and costumes.  The distribution of foils was far too regular - I had three boxes with exactly the same foils in them.  I know I have some boxes I won't be able to make one full base set from.  The actual packs were running in order with duplicates on top of each other ie pack one had, say base cards 2, 4, 5, 6, 10, 40, 43, 50 and the pack directly below and the pack opposite it in the box had exactly the same cards in the same order.  Now for a case or box buyer this doesn't matter but what about the poor little kid who has saved all their pocket money for a couple of packs?  Oh look mummy I got exactly the same cards  :'(

I totally agree they should have done more different cards so that there were not so many duplicates.  This was marketed as as a premium product and the price was increased to reflect that.  I do not think it is acceptable to have duplicate autos in a case, especially when there are nine autos in the set - they should have ensured sufficient numbers to avoid this.  And before someone asks if I would have minded two Emma Watson's in my case the answer would have been yes.  If she had signed so many cards that there were two of them in a case it still would have been the same problem.

For such a hugely expensive set it was not on for people to get one insert per box, whether a box or case buyer.  The cards are gorgeous, as I have already said, but I don't think I will be buying the MM Update unless things change.

??? MM Update????
Oh no!!

: Re: MM scans and comments
: desertowl November 13, 2006, 01:37:16 AM
I don't know if I will be buying any update boxes if they are like this set.  2 of my 4 boxes had only 1 insert and the overall printing quality of the base set wasn't very good.  Maybe having the printing around the edge of the cards (base set) skewed is some kind of effect???? It looks sloppy to me. Anyways

box 1 - Harry Potter's shirt and Grim fur  ;D
box 2 - Crabbe costume and Broom Bristles
box 3 - Goyle costume
box 4 - Goyle costume and Fleur and Cedric double costume

I guess I should be glad I got coins in every box..

Not officially no, but after the next 3 movies they are bound to do something like this again, hopefully it won't cover the first 4 movies again...

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Bitsy November 13, 2006, 03:09:53 AM
I fully expect there to be another MM set after the seventh and final film, covering movies 5-7.

I agree that the cards are beautifully presented...they really stand out.   :)  But, I am also very disappointed that there were as many dud boxes as there were--to pay so much more for a set and not have at least two inserts in every box just isn't fair--especially regarding the resin boxes. As much as I wanted to buy another box at the time, I reckon I'm glad I didn't.  :-\

: Re: MM scans and comments
: ECL November 13, 2006, 06:10:22 AM
I think the MM cards look really great also, but in the end, I find it kind of hard to justify the $80+ for a box, even though there were some really low numbered cards in the set.  I think it will be nice to see some regular card releases again like COS

: Re: MM scans and comments

No even better than that the next M.M. cases will sell for $100 a piece and contain only one costume card of Gregory Goyle's black robe at a 2000 print... worth ??? Oh about $3.00 on the open market...what a bloody deal I can hardly wait !!!!!!!!!!!

and by that time Radcliffe/Watson/Grint siggie/cards will have already caught up to the number of times Warrick Davis has already signed...HEY AT LEAST YOU ARE GETTING UPDATES A HELL OF ALOT FASTER THAN Artbox gives them !!!!!!

Sorry to snip some of the good quotes, but I agree 100% with the last comment. If they had planned the set better, they could have avoided duplicate autos and costumes within a single case.  I am also quite annoyed that there are only 5-6 varieties of cases, as far as the autograph pulls are concerned. Box and case breakdowns can be used to get hints on the total numbers for cards if they aren't announced ... they aren't supposed to be a method of predicting what cards are in the last few boxes of a case after you've opened the rest.  On another forum, a correspondent said he didn't know whether to open the final box of his case (the resin box) or to auction it off, saying he hadn't had any auto or costume dupes so far. But it would have been pretty easy to predict what high chase cards were in that final box.  I posted my case breakdown and somebody said "Hey, it's eerie, Anna got the same big cards, down to the by-box distribution." And now, except for the collation, so did you!

But on the other collation ... considering we got exactly the same high chase in our cases, your collation experience was nearly the opposite of mine. I got the pair of coin cards in every box. Seven boxes had two complete base sets, with the other three, only one to a few short of a second set. And the full case collated very well for the base cards, with 24 complete sets out of 10 boxes. The foil distribution varied, ranging from 4 to 7 copies of each number in the case.

Sheesh, they seemed to have been able to "get it right" some of the time, and made a mess of it with your case. I suspect that Artbox has been bringing out so much more product than they used to, that they've started to use some "untested" packaging factories. Make sure you give them the box numbers when you contact them about the no-coins and other flaws and maybe (just maybe) they will weed out the problem areas.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Bryanjs14 November 15, 2006, 06:50:21 AM
I do not think it is to much to ask of Artbox for all writing cards, however, I think they should have sent out all the writing ones to dealers and kept the blank ones for the Mystery Boxes at comic con (because we all know they will end up there)

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Bitsy November 15, 2006, 07:44:16 AM
Yeah, I wish no one had to worry about a blank swatch.  :-\  Especially considering how much writing is on that piece--I mean, it's not exactly wanting for writing.  :-\

But, I have to admit, if I pulled even a blank one of these cards from a Mystery Box, I would be thrilled.  :-[

He probably got an offer to sell privately that he just couldn't refuse is my guess...say oh maybe in the $600 to $800 range.....remember there has been 2 already sold with BIN's with some sort of or pieces of letter writing on it at $499.99 no probs.... and they were just partial letters on the swatches not even full words...Mo

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Sharon November 18, 2006, 02:28:06 AM
That's what I thought  :(.  The thing that is getting me is that I had intended to try and get this as my one huge treat for the year (work Christmas box, raiding down the back of the settee etc).  I never think to contact the seller to put in an offer, I just assume they would have put it up as a BIN if they had wanted to do that.  Well I have learnt my lesson, next time I will get in quick.  So if anyone sees one with lots of writing please yell at me loudly  :)

Can't really judge a card just because it sold at $100 or $600.......You always have to look at the print count/and how it was distributed (pack pull/or incentive).....last but certainly not least swatch presentation...that blank one was a very good deal at $300 for just a 50 produced count, and not really available to the general public...the only problem that HP collectors have is that they really want all of them but have to own 3 jobs to get them all because some prices are just too bloody dear....and scarce

Well the seller got back to me and said that someone had bought it from their (Ebay) shop which is why it was withdrawn.  I have to admit I did not see it as a BIN in their shop but that must just be me.  They said they will have another up for sale soon but who knows how much writing it will have on it.

As for the price Maureen is spot on - it all depends on the swatch.  I was prepared to pay quite a lot for the other card because you could make out which part of the note it was from.  I wouldn't even go in at the opening bid on this new one.  No matter how rare and gorgeous it is, that is too expensive for wording you can't make out.

Get back in contact with the seller ASAP to let them know of their mistake.
Hopefully they haven't sent your card out to someone else and can send it on to you, but expect to return the 'error' card at your own expense .... you could ask that they refund you these shipping costs as it's their error, just see what they say.  :o=

: Re: MM scans and comments

I got an email from the seller too, and it wasn't that it had been sold in an eBay store, but that it had already been sold and that another one with a different number (also with nice text) would be listed instead. From reputation and experience with this seller, I accept that it was a mistake where the wrong image and card # had been listed, and was a true "withdrawn because of an error in the listing."

I recently told a different seller that I had seen the same card pictured in her eBay store and in a regular auction, and I think it's more common than you think that people get confused when they are blessed with more than one copy of the same scarce card ...

I'm guessing its black and blue it looks it on the picture, but carn't really tell or it might even be green and blue, what colour do you reckon it is I'm well exited now with you saying I might have the rarest card.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: beatles99 November 25, 2006, 03:59:38 AM
I just can't tell.......you could be sitting on a down payment for a new house...if it's blue....if it's green it's worth of about $14

just saw this on  :ebay:

Well this card has been withdrawn and I am gutted  :'(.  I have sent the seller a note to find out if it will be re-listed but was wondering if anyone had heard why.

I can say from experience that this seller will end auctions early if she is offered the right amount. She did it for me a couple of times last year. It's possible there was an error but I think someone gave an offer that couldn't be refused.

The DC4 comes in two versions, the Robe & Grey Jumper or the Robe and Tie.  The Robe and Tie version seems to sell for more on eBay.

Thanks!  I was very, very happy to add that card to my collection. :)  I don't know if this has been asked before, but do all or most of the McGonagall costumes have stitching in the swatch?  I picked up one and was pleasantly surprised to see that even though it's black material, it has some nice stitching.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Nienna November 27, 2006, 01:27:11 AM
*raises hand* the one I have has also got some black stitching on it! ;)
Most of those I've seen for sale on ebay have got stitching on them, but it all depends on how good the photos are of the individual swatches as to whether you notice them or not. ;)

Anna's is by far the best i've seen yet:

I've seen similar swatches before but never have seen this..........I know that they are not exactly the same but for sure come from the same part of the letter...How many letters are there ?????? With so many that are blank I just thought they used up the envelope too ???????
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120059931045&rd=1&rd=1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120059931045&rd=1&rd=1)

I mean if they had multi letters fine...it's a movie and it's a prop but at least they could of had 50 swatches with some lettering instead of so many blank

They really ought to limit the paper props to ONE when there's only one PROP in the movie. An example is the "Letter From Serius", another example is the "TOP Secret Letter " to the goblin banker from Dumbledore. An example of when it is ok to have more than one would be like the case of The Chocolate Frog Prop, Bertie Boots Every Flavour Beans and LikO'Rish Spiders. (Maybe others) How would you like 200 copies of Harry's Hogwarts Ticket? Microscopic swatches?

I read the "Letter From Serius" as it appears in the book. In my version of the book it's on page 312. Some of the text in the movie seems "writen" for visual impact, like the part where it says "....she bites" etc. Maybe it was too much time to read as it appeared in the book. Some of the text is the same like the part about "....o'oclock".

Nice lot of lettering on your card Anna. By the way, as you probably know Tom sends little packs when he sends you stuff. Anyway Ihad 3 packs of the FilmCardZ the last one (#58) was in one of them. Thanks eveyone for looking to Anna for three she sent cards.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Roz December 05, 2006, 11:14:41 PM
I agree John. This is utterly ridiculous!

Like you, I carefully selected a swatch for a Sirius letter prop, and paid rather a lot assuming (naively) that I was getting something 'unique'.

I am REALLY annoyed about this.

: Re: MM scans and comments
: Tower December 05, 2006, 11:34:17 PM
And much more with the other Sirius letter (GOFU). I carefully selected a swatch and now i know, there are 89 others with the same swatch.  :o  ;)

But seriously you are right. It would be much nicer if there would be only one letter or SS Train ticket for example. To see almost the same swatch many times is a bit disappointing for the owner.  :'(

: Roz December 06, 2006, 02:12:51 AM

88 - there's supposed to be at least one with lettering on ;)

With such a low numbered props you just assume they would only need one letter  :-\

Here's my new card.  I don't usually get case incentives (other than the GOFU Daily Prophet, since I'm collecting those from every set), so I'm really thrilled with this one! :)

: Re: MM scans and comments
: grecopa December 07, 2006, 03:57:25 AM
NICE!  2 questions:  Is it painted?  It looks like it's from the front cover of the book.  Do you think so?

: Re: MM scans and comments
: kbmum December 07, 2006, 08:37:44 AM
It feels like paper, not paint, so I'm not sure how it was made.  It's probably from the front cover where vines extend from the jagged top edge of the book.  Here's a picture Jon posted from Artbox's 2006 SDCC display:

: Re: MM scans and comments
: kbmum December 08, 2006, 02:05:18 AM
I hadn't noticed that. :)  The white sections on the swatch are actually the cardboard from the back of the card, not part of the swatch.  That's why I thought it was from the area with the cutouts.  It could be from the back of the book, too, since we can't see that in any of the pictures.

I don't know what to make of this card, it has some strange designs in the swatch. I thought they were all plain black. Were some of the C5s like this?, and what exactly would you guys call that? i can't find the right word in english mmm, embroidery? pretty-looking-thing-in-the-swatch ? help?

I hadn't seen this post! Thanks  :-*, I just pulled another McGonagall robe and it's almost identical to the one i had. Is her robe like that in the movie? I'd have thought it completely black/plain like Harry's or Draco's in POA.

I thought I would revive this section with a card I just bought, as well as a card I pulled at Comic-Con. Their variants, so I like them. Speaking of variants, Im looking to buy or trade for good Memorable Moments variants, especially a variant of the Cannons poster with a swatch of the Quidditch player(s). So if anyone has any that they are willing to part with, please let me know. Thanks!

I've never seen a variant for that card either...until now! WOW! It's really nice!  8)

It even looks like a bit of a darker green on the left...is it a darker color or different material?

It is a darker green (or black) and a different material. I think it may be where the robe crosses over to the outside, because the green on the card is the inside of the robe, right? So I may have a little piece of both?

OMG! I think you are absolutely right!  :o :o :o :o I'll bet that's exactly what you have--a bit of both parts of the robe!  :o :o

That is huge! Congratulations! That is so incredibly awesome!  :D ;D ;) :)

Ok, I finally have a good "Oh my gosh look what I found for cheap" story!!  a couple of time a year one of the malls in my area has an "antiques" show.  It's really a junk and stuff show, but sometimes a couple of sports card sellers show up.  I just happened to be at the mall yesterday, so I started looking at one guys football cards and I noticed some MM costumes and a DARK ARTS BOOK in his case.  I asked about the costumes and they were completely overpriced, then I asked about the DA book and it was the same price as the costumes!!  Which was a STEAL!!  So I bought it while acting all casual, but my heart was pounding!  I asked him where he got it and he said he didn't know, but he thinks his wife picked them up somewhere.  It's #26/98!!!!
The only think is, I never planned to collect the Dark Arts Book.  ::)  I'm tempted to keep it since it was such a cool find, but I'm willing to trade for any of my wants in Diagon Alley.  I'll try to post a scan later.  ;D

Well, I just got this recently. I notice that it is a lighter brown color, where most are a dark brown.  I love it!

Very nice card!  I can't recall seeing one with such a light color, so maybe it's a bit of a variant. :)

Jackie, I missed your post with the Chudley Cannons poster!  That's a great swatch -- letters, graphics, and multiple colors.  Perfect!
