I notice the Gabrielle costume doesn't look like a solid color.  Is it?

It seems to be a velour. Depending on how the light hits it and if you rub it to change the way the nap lies, it's color seems to change.

to me it seems like a fur almost; not sure about the two colours, ill have to check it out when i get home. but from memory i think it might be slightly different...

It's a feather for sure and maybe 2 tone is not quite a proper observation ,,,,will correct myself and say 2 coloured quill (white and brown )

Graham bought me a case of MM which I ripped open with relish on Thursday  Grin.  As a case it was OK - I got two cards I really wanted - the dual Lupin / Marauders Map and dual Weasley costume as well as more than I wanted - two Sykes autos  Roll Eyes.  The collation was very poor - double costumes in addition to the autos and two single card boxes.  I know this is the same as everyone else has got but it is very poor planning from Artbox for such an expensive set.

However the really bad thing about this case was the lack of coin cards.  I have read the back of the packs and it implies that you are guaranteed 2 coin cards per box.  I actually had four boxes with no coin cards.  Now it is not that I particularly want these coins but I will be contacting Artbox out of principle.  One of the boxes without coins also only had one common costume card in it.  If I had bought these as single boxes I would have been absolutely gutted.

What I find hard to understand though is how a company (whoever Artbox gets to pack their cards) can manage to produce identical cases ie the same specials in each case but manage to leave out so many coin cards?  Has anyone else had this problem?

I think these are the nicest cards Artbox have done so far.  The artwork and quality of the cards is superb.  But I could have easily lived without a resin box and coin cards in exchange for either a lower selling price or, preferably, more inserts.  Maybe next time please Artbox  Praying

i completely agree with you about the resin box, as nice as they are i havnt a clue what to do with mine, maybe a door stop....... Roll Eyes

but four boxes without coin cards!? thats a joke they add so much weight to each box, and they stated that each box will have 2 coin cards, id be gutted if i had opened a case and some had been empty just out of principle, i hope you get it sorted out, and as nice as this set is theres a down side to it with weight, im sure that they didnt need to make the resin box out of resin lol
congrats on your lupin/marauders card though thats a really really great pull!

Definitely contact Artbox, Sharon.  That's ridiculous that FOUR boxes didn't have coin cards--that's inexcusable.  I know they are not the most highly valued card, but they are nice and they were part of the bargain/promise from Artbox.  Essentially, you did not get what you bargained for and are entitled to them.

On the same note of collation - I was opening the case with Sharon - a collector on Card Talk has noted that if you get X card in a box, you will also get XX in the same box. This will help you gauge what a case will hold. I suggest that if you buy a single box in person from a dealer, ask if they have any more boxes from the same case. This could end up giving you that much needed auto  Grin

I agree there definately seems to be collation similarities within the cases as we found with GOFU. I only found one problem with the coin cards where I only found one Dobby coin and no GOF Harry coin in one box, as for the rest they turned out much like everyone elses.
As for the duplicate costumes ie. Goyle, Crabbe and Dursley there higher production run would suggest that most cases would get duplicates with only 375 cases doing the rounds.
I however was well pleased with my cases as the props and duals cover the case price in themselves. Cant wait for COS now.

I don't think you can say that collation was "lousy" just because of the duplicated costumes and autos.  If you run the numbers, there weren't enough higher-numbered costume cards to put 10 different into every case. They would have run out of scarcer costume cards early. Same thing for the dupes on "common" autos - for the total print run, they couldn't put 5 different in every case.

Of course, it might have been better if they had planned the set so that they could have made cases without dupes in the high chase.

I hope this doesn't look too confusing but I am actually quoting this from the Box Breakdown thread.

Maybe I should have been more specific about the lousy comment as I wasn't just referring to the autos, props and costumes.  The distribution of foils was far too regular - I had three boxes with exactly the same foils in them.  I know I have some boxes I won't be able to make one full base set from.  The actual packs were running in order with duplicates on top of each other ie pack one had, say base cards 2, 4, 5, 6, 10, 40, 43, 50 and the pack directly below and the pack opposite it in the box had exactly the same cards in the same order.  Now for a case or box buyer this doesn't matter but what about the poor little kid who has saved all their pocket money for a couple of packs?  Oh look mummy I got exactly the same cards  :'(

I totally agree they should have done more different cards so that there were not so many duplicates.  This was marketed as as a premium product and the price was increased to reflect that.  I do not think it is acceptable to have duplicate autos in a case, especially when there are nine autos in the set - they should have ensured sufficient numbers to avoid this.  And before someone asks if I would have minded two Emma Watson's in my case the answer would have been yes.  If she had signed so many cards that there were two of them in a case it still would have been the same problem.

For such a hugely expensive set it was not on for people to get one insert per box, whether a box or case buyer.  The cards are gorgeous, as I have already said, but I don't think I will be buying the MM Update unless things change.

I don't know if I will be buying any update boxes if they are like this set.  2 of my 4 boxes had only 1 insert and the overall printing quality of the base set wasn't very good.  Maybe having the printing around the edge of the cards (base set) skewed is some kind of effect?Huh It looks sloppy to me. Anyways

box 1 - Harry Potter's shirt and Grim fur  Grin
box 2 - Crabbe costume and Broom Bristles
box 3 - Goyle costume
box 4 - Goyle costume and Fleur and Cedric double costume

I guess I should be glad I got coins in every box..

Not officially no, but after the next 3 movies they are bound to do something like this again, hopefully it won't cover the first 4 movies again...

I fully expect there to be another MM set after the seventh and final film, covering movies 5-7.

I agree that the cards are beautifully presented...they really stand out.   Smiley  But, I am also very disappointed that there were as many dud boxes as there were--to pay so much more for a set and not have at least two inserts in every box just isn't fair--especially regarding the resin boxes. As much as I wanted to buy another box at the time, I reckon I'm glad I didn't.  Undecided

I think the MM cards look really great also, but in the end, I find it kind of hard to justify the $80+ for a box, even though there were some really low numbered cards in the set.  I think it will be nice to see some regular card releases again like COS
