I have been lurking here for months now, but today is the day I decided to say hello to all of you. Last
night I purchased hobby boxes number seven and
eight. $439 and what did
I get? Bonnie Wright autograph number three and
Harry t-shirt number two. Out of eight boxes that brings my grand total to: 2 Quidditch robes, 2 Harry
t-shirts, 2 Harry black cloaks, 3 Bonnie Wright autos, the Julie Christie
redemption card, and NO
PROP CARDS!!! The guy I
bought the two boxes from
tonight has seven more
left in the case. (Box number six was the Julie
Christie redemtion.) Unlike most of you, I got into this late, so I've paid about two hundred dollars (U.S.) for every box. I must be insane, but I can't stop. Just curious: Do you reckon
the rarer cards (Emma Watson auto, prop cards)
were packed-out in the earliest boxes of the production run, or should
I continue my insane asault on my bank account? And one more thing: Are you guys as crazy as I am, what with the collating of every new set? Do you have set after set of the base cards
in page after page of plastic card protectors?

Welcome, welcome! Glad you have decided to join in the festivities  Where do you hail from? Thats horrible luck with those cards :'( If you have the cash to buy more boxes, I'd advise you to save it and buy a prop/auto/costume card you really want. I do not think that Artbox would have packed up the 'good cards' in any order... for you I think it was just bad luckI have not collected much on this set but am going to start my assault in PoA update. Hi Morenomark WELCOME WELCOME (ooer about to recite HP now.. though I can't do it as well as I can LOTR  ) Sorry but you have lost me, how do you know which numbers the boxes are?? I have one base set in my file, and I sent another base set to a friend, I wrapped the rest up in cling film/sandwich wrapping stuff until I can get some Ultra Pro 100 count boxes... I would have bought some of those at Memorabilia but I spent all my cash on San Diego sets (from a guy out of the back of his car - how shifty is that??) and on a Ron 500 costume! No, we don't think you are crazy, some of us have similar symptoms to the ones you describe, come and be a nut case with us! If you keep going you will hit the dervish and banges and the other prop cards eventually, but in truth, even if you cough up for the expensive prop cards you will get a better deal than buying boxes! For what you are paying currently for a box you could have a 'limited to 100' permission slip prop card (this is the one I am after next |

I agree with both Roz and FTY you are better to buy individual cards
than boxes or save money and get the update boxes
And don't for get to enter the competition

I think our favourite Transfiguration Teacher means don't forget to enter the competitions!!!
morenomark if you are going to collect the next HP set I suggest you think about placing a pre-order pretty soon!
At the moment you can get them in the USA from potomac for $57!
Would any of our regular forum UK dealers (or minidealers) like to tell me what the current pre-sale price is in the UK? I think MPC is now out of presale boxes!

Wow, no props? Not even a Hermione Robe or Sweater. I would stop now and do what everyone else has said. Buy the ones you want and wait for the update. I got in to this late as well, but got lucky and found someone who didn't know what they had and sold me a box for $50 (that includes shipping). After that, I couldn't bring myself to spend $200 on a box, so I only got the one. Save your money, have fun bidding on eBay for the ones you want. And get plenty of the updates.

Greetings, I can only hope that you do not get to join the dud club. I had two hobby boxes which were in the $200 range that had no costumes, no auto's, no props but had box toppers and the proper number of foils. There is no guarantee that there will be a special insert.

Don't we all But I wonder how they are roughly able to make sure there is at least one insert per box (for LOTR anyway)? Do they have all the packs with inserts in them and slip them in one perbox at the packing department?  |

That's a good question. I highly doubt they do that because it would take to much packing time, I would think. But then again, for HP, they take the time to make hot boxes, so why not put at least one insert in each box?

hey,
i know that Rittenhouse do that. they put 2 packs in to a box by hand and thats how they can insure that there are 2 autos in a box. i wish that topps and artbox would do that but rittenhouse do limit the production number of there boxes to about 5000-7000 and the signers only sign about 500 cards so it makes them rare unlike topps which get them to sign about 2500

Hot boxes would have to involve some "by hand" methods. As to insuring one insert per box that too is not difficult but would also reduce the number of boxes with multiples in them. Since the Update release has more boxes (10,000) compared to POA regular (5000), there would have to be a lot more insert cards to keep the same level of insertion. I think that ArtBox should work on guaranteeing 1 insert per box. A dud box, especially on the secondary market, is painful. Also they need some improvement on their method of sealing boxes...clear shrinkwrap is far too easy to replace.
