The first thing I want to say is sorry I am posting this a little late. Life has been a little hectic for me lately what with needing to find a new job and my mother finally getting married to the man she has been living with for the last 25 years  Grin

The marriage is done and they were sent on their honeymoon, so now I have time to come on the Shack and give some reviews on the first two episodes of "Stargate Atlantis" season 4  Smiley

The first episode "Adrift"

This episode was a great start to a new season. If you recall from season three's ender that Atlantis dropped out of hyperspace prematurely and the ZPM's power was to low to start another jump not to mention their city's protective shield is failing. Now McKay and Zelenka have to finda way to get power for the shields before they fail. Which involves Sheppard and Zelenka taking a trip to turn off power that doesn't need to be on and just wait until you see what they have to do to succeed.

Also Elizabeth was injured rather badly when the gateroom exploded and the new doctor has to try and sae her life. I don't want to give to much away about Weir's story in case you want to be surprised but let's just say that the direction they took her character in order to save her life was a very interesting way to go.

It's also interesting to watch Sheppard have to take charge of the entire city because Weir is at the moment fighting to just stay alive. I loved the McKay/Sheppard banter in this episode also  Smiley I have to say the slowest moments were when Sam and Lee were at the Midway Space Station but you knew they had to fit her in somehow. I hated the way she treated Bill Lee a few times, like he was dumber then her and I tell you this much if they let her do that around McKay or Zelenka I am going to be one unhappy fan  Hopping Mad

It ends with the team needed to find a way to get more power so in other words they need a ZPM. McKay mentions were they know their are extra ZPM's so a heist is planned. After that the dreaded To Be Continued... words come up like you knew they would  Roll Eyes

All in all this was a fantastic episode and a great start to the new season  Grin Grin Grin

Now onto "Lifeline":

The second episode of the season and it is full of action. We left off with te team planning a heist in the last episode and the planet they plan on stealing a ZPM from ends up being the replicator homeworld. Sheppard leaves Teyla in charge of Atlantis while himself, McKay, Ronon and Weir go on the mission to steal a ZPM. Weir is involved in the heist because of what they did to her in the season opener (if you want to know what that is just tell me and I will post it, if not then let's just say you may be surprised). It was also nice that they went back to the "Tao of Rodney" episode and used one of the things that McKay did while he was ascending into an ancient to help them with their mission to get to the Replicator homeworld.

Again Carter was in this but it just involved her getting on the new ship Apollo to help them find Atlantis. Again she acts like she is smarter then Lee which makes me just want to slap her silly. When I watch these again and I know I will I know the scenes I will be using my fast forward button on  Evil

This was another great episode but I kind of liked last weeks better even though this one was a close second for me. I am looking forward to the rest of the season if they are anything like these ones. The only thing I am worried about now is if we will get a season 5 because the season opener got a 1.2 rating and I don't know if that is good enough for the sci fi  channel bosses Huh

Thank you Wendi  Grin.  I haven't seen any of the new ones yet but I think we will only be a few behind you at the moment - which of course means we will see the whole season about 8 weeks before you!

The trailers here have got me a bit worried.  They focus totally on a new person leading the Atlantis team.  Yep you guessed it, your favourite and mine Sam Carter  Lips Sealed.  I have to say though your reviews have eased a few of my worries but if she treats Rodney like Lee I can see a lots of   Hopping Mad Hopping Mad Hopping Mad appearing in my posts  ROFL!

I don't really understand the US rating system, in the UK shows are judged on how many millions of people watch them.  Of course if it is a BBC show they see it is popular and then cancel it  ROFL!.  I think you could be right though that SGA is in danger and I am a little embarrassed to say I have been making contingencies plans for the inevitable  Embarrassed.

I am now totally hooked on Ghost Whisperer and Blood Ties.  Unfortunately Blood Ties has 'cancelled after the first season' written all over it so I need to start searching for something to fill the gap.  At least Eureka is still hanging in there.... just  Praying

Thank you again for your brilliant reviews.  I am just waiting for Boggy to give me the second part on tape and then I will have a Stargate fest - just me, a cup of tea and Rodney  ROFL!

You will have to tell me when you finally get to see the new season and what you think about them.

I do have this much to say about the last two episodes I saw:

I thought "Reunion" was alright but I am not a real big Ronon fan so it wasn't one of my favorites. I did however like Teyla, Sheppard and McKay in this one. If you do like Ronon however then this will be a good one for you because it has to do with him meeting a group of friends from his homeworld of Seteda. As for Sam Carter she is still getting on my nerves and I can't believe they made her the leader of the Atlantis expedition. Since when do leaders go on rescue missions. I have never seen Weir, Landry, Hammond or even O'Neill go on missions were they were really not needed. I guess the writers wanted us to know that not only can Sam lead but she can do a rescue better then anyone else  Roll Eyes

One more comment on Carter, how in the world did she earn a promotion to full Colonel  Huh At least I didn't have to suffer through yet another promotion I didn't think she earned. The only promotion she ever truly earned in my opinion was the one for Major but then again back then I had way more respet for her as a character.I also have a problem with them stating that she is the foremost expert on Ancient technology and Replicator activity. I will maybe give them the replicator one but no way in you know what is she smarter then McKay on ancient technology. I am so sick of her being this super person who is just an Astrophysicist but is also able to things that are way out of her field of expertise. She also comes across as smug at one point in the episode to me  Hopping Mad

Now the second episode "Doppleganger" was the best of the season so far to me  Grin While I am sad that they yet again killed off a character I liked I found the episode entertaining from beginning until end. I actually found myself tryng to figure things out before they did and I haven't done that for a while with an episode. I do miss Beckett but I have to say that the new doctor isn't bad and Jewel Staite does do a great job even if she does seem a bit young for the job. Then again my sister is 26 and she still looks like she is 15  Tongue As for Carter at least in this one I didn't find her getting on my nerves but that could be that she was ion it for maybe what felt like 15 minutes of the episode so that might of had something to do with it also  Azn

They do seem to be milking that Carter is coming to Atlantis a little to much in the magazines as well as in the adds. I feel bad for the other characers and their actors that portray them because its like if it wasn't for Tapping/Carter coming to the show then why watch. The funny thing I found out about a lot of Atlantis fans myself included is that they felt their was no need for Carter to come at all. I do know the first time an alien falls for her or someone at the base falls for her I may gag. Also if I hear any mention at all at Jack/Sam I will scream  Hopping Mad  I thought I escaped that
back when I started watching Atlantis, then they brought her in.

However the biggest thing that will upset me with Carter coming to Atlantis will be if the writers start making McKay the buffoon to Carter's brilliance.  Hopping Mad Hopping Mad Hopping Mad Only time will tell and as of this moment I am still not convinced that the writers won't go this way.

I don't care for the US Rating system because it relies on people with a Nielson box. I can watch whatever I want or not watch whatever I don't want because I don't have a Nielson box so basicallythe ratings of a show are not affected by what I am viewing. It is very confusing and Sci Fi seems to think that they are a major network now and if the ratings aren't as high as a show that was on NBC, CBS or ABC then maybe it should be cancelled. They seem to forget also that it was Stargate SG1 that got them their very first high ratings for a television show on their network.

I just started watching "Pushing Up Daisies" but that may not last long either since the creator has a different idea on how to write an interesting show. I personally love it because it has a Tim Burton feel to it and I love Tim Burton  Grin I also enjoy watching "Supernatural" even though the two new girls are going to get on my nerves fast. The demon one isn't so bad but the thief one is pushing my buttons.

I have my fingers crossed though for a season 5 of Atlantis because I would really miss Hewlett/McKay  :'( I can'twait to hear your thoughts when you finally get to see the episodes  Grin

ROFL! ROFL! ROFL!  I just love the fact that I can spot a mile off when you are talking about Carter - I just look for the  Hopping Mad Hopping Mad Hopping Mad

Well I had a minor disaster  Sad.  Whilst I was waiting for the second part of the new season I lost the first part.  Luckily thanks to your wonderful review I managed to pick things up.  Well I thought this was OK - nice to see the old gang back - but no WoW factor.  I was shocked about Weir (I don't think this is a spoiler due to what I will say about the next episode  Wink) but I do think she will be back.  Now onto a really good episode.

Reunion, I loved it  Grin.  As you said if you are not a Ronan fan it would have been a bit much but since he is one of my favourite characters I thought it was fab  Grin.  I do like the banter between McKay and Ronan, it reminds me of the classic Daniel/Jack days.  And I have to admit, in the beginning even Sam wasn't winding me up too much.  When Rodney thought he had been promoted  ROFL! ROFL! ROFL!.   Even better was when he explained to Sam that he wasn't available  ROFL! ROFL!.  Now onto the bad things.......

Sam  Hopping Mad Hopping Mad Hopping Mad  I totally agree with you, what was she doing going on a mission!  She is in charge now and should be stuck behind a desk, seen and not heard  Evil.  Oh and is it me or did her uniform look a little odd?  I thought it looked like she had either been body building or had borrowed a suit from Teal'c and put on lots of jumpers underneath.  She didn't look fat, just an odd shape.

But my biggest gripe is the way she was eying up Ronan.  Mark my words that is the new 'unrequited love' story line.  And you thought the never ending Sam/Jack farce was bad enough.  You have been warned  Wink Wink

I am glad to hear that my review helped you know what you missed when you lost the first part of the new season  Grin

Also before I tell you my opinion on "Travelers" and "Tabula Rasa" I have some great news. Well it is awesome news as long as they get David Hewlett back  Grin  Grin  Grin The Sci Fi Channel has officially renewed Stargate Atlantis for a fifth season  Grin I will let you know who is signed on and who may not be as more news is released. I just have to say that my main priority character is Hewlett's for resigning and anyone else is just gravy, but I do want Flanagan also because I love the McKay/Sheppard banter. The other exciting news is they made it to 100 episodes with the fifth season  Grin I am just hoping that it is better then the crap they gave us with "Wormhole Extreme" for SG1's 100th episode  Praying

I will never understand why they had her go on the mission and as for the outfit I have to agree with you on it. I think the wardrobe department gave her a to small size outfit for her frame just so it could show off her assets (if you know what I mean). Also why the heck do they have to have the zipper half way up just so it can push up her boobs is beyond me  Roll Eyes I thought the sleeveless t-shirts were pathetic on SG1 and now they do this with the jacket and outfit on SGA. I don't know about you but it just makes me laugh because the outfit looks so stupid and unprofessional for a military officer. I miss Weir on this alone because at least they dressed her in decent outfits.

I think we are safe on this affect if you ask me because I don't think the writers are done with the pathetic excuse of Jack/Sam especially with the "Continuum" movie coming out next year. Only time will tell of course.

Now onto my thoughts on the last two episodes of SGA;

"Travelers"

I have to say that this has so far gone down as the worst episode of season 4 for me. The saddest thing about this is that it was one of the 6 Carterless episodes in the season and it was lousy. Hopping Mad  Sad  While I loved the beginning scene between McKay and Sheppard the rest of the episode went down hill for me. You don't even want to get me started on my opinion of the leader of the Travellers  Roll Eyes I really hope that these guys are not going to be the new baddies for the season because to me they were more of a joke then a group of bad guys. I prefer the Genii to these incompetents. I also was wishing that Sheppard would have let the Wraith suck the life out of Lorrin instead of saving her because then I would have at least been happy in the knowledge that one of the annoyances wasn't coming back. All in all this was a complete waste of a Carter free episode for me  Angry Angry Angry

"Tabula Rasa"

Now here is an episode I did enjoy even with Carter in it  Smiley She wasn't annoying and they actually let McKay do the important stuff and Carter was more or less just a sidekick who helped him  Grin I also didn't mind Katie Brown in this episode even though I still think Rodney can do better. It was so sweet watching the scenes between him and her especially when McKay is such a hypochondriac when it comes to illnesses. The new doctor is actually growing on me more and more even though I will always miss Carson Beckett. At least they replaced him with someone good unlike when Janet was killed off in season 7 of SG1. They only managed to get a good doctor on SG1 when Caroline Lamm finally came on in season 9. This was a great episode and it made up for last weeks in spades. I didn't know how they could do a widespread amnesia story on the base and make it work but they did and it was a fun episode to watch.

Woo hoo another series  Grin Grin Grin.  But I agree with you, it does depend on who is in it ie WE WANT MCKAY  ROFL!.  Although you know me, I would be quite happy with another Wormhole Extreme for the 100th episode  Grin Grin

Well I have just seen Doppelganger and I have mixed feelings.  It was great episode with some cracking one liners but it felt very 'samey'  Undecided.  Been there, done that.  Even Sam made a comment about it.  And how come they just happened to have the exact extremely rare dream sharing machine in Atlantis  Roll Eyes.  That said though it was funny in places (I loved Rodneys comment about John's dream  ROFL!).

Well I now have one dodgy episode to get through before a good one  Grin

It did make me happy their was going to be another season but their is still no word on who they have signed up for it. I just hope at this point all the regular cast members are signed up still and that Tapping/ Carter doesn't get a bigger role in it since this will officially be her second season on Atlantis. I wish they would get the news out soon on who is officialy signed up  Roll Eyes

I loved "Doppleganger" but you are right I did get sick of Sam saying we did this and we went through that with SG1  Tongue At least the dreams and the way it turned out were fun to watch  Smiley If I recall right I am sure Sam had to send a message to Stargate Command to borrow the machine for Atlantis just like McKay borrowed that other machine in the "Tao of Rodney" episode. It is a good thin they store these things at Area 51.

As for the episode this week "Missing":

I can't explain it but I found something missing about this episode (no pun intended  ROFL!) but then again I probably shouldn't say anything until I actually finish watching the episode.

While it does give Teyla an episode and the new doctor some more time on screen I just couldn't get into it except for when the guys were on. Then again I never did care for the Athosians and I can't say I will miss them if they are not found by the end of this one. I know that was a cruel statement but it is true for me I just don't care about them not like I did the Abydonians anyway and look what happened to them  Sad.

I will finish this one up and get back to you on it if only I could get past the whining in it. I mean come on you are only missing for a day and your already whining about starving to death. Your in a forest hunt something up  Roll Eyes Maybe I watched that scene wrong but when I finish it I will see if my opinion on it changes.

Next weeks episode looks more promising even though Carter is back in it. At this point it seems the writers are trying to make all the Carter free episodes blah just so we think that with Carter the show  is more interesting Azn   Evil YEAH RIGHT Evil  ROFL!

I can safely say after finally finishing watching "Missing" that I don't just watch the show for the cute guys  Azn (watching McKay doesn't hurt though  Wink)I decided to watch the episode all over again instead of just were I left off and I realized now that it wasn't half bad. At some points I felt like I was getting into a "Firefly" episode what with the bad guys (who's name I can't remember at this point) and their canobolism ways, but otherwise it wasn't as bad as the beginning lead me to thinking. I am so happy that so far Teyla's baby seems to be just another Athosian and nothing with super powers or anything like that. My fingers are crossed that it stays that way  Praying I do not want a show with a special baby who will be the savior of the Lantions and also who will grow up to an 18 or 20 year old within a year. That would be one of the worst things these writers could do with that story   Hopping Mad I will give it this much also it was a nice Carter free episode  Grin

Now onto last nights episode "The Seer"

I found myself enjoying this episode and I kept waiting for the wraith from the previous episode "Common Ground" to betray them. I was happy with the outcome but how many times do we have to find out that Atlantis is yet again in danger of attack. They seem to pull that one out every season we got it already and besides when wouldn't Atlantis be in danger of appending attacks. Do the writers think we are stupid  Roll Eyes As for the seer I liked what John said and that who wants to know the future all the time because it will just leave you worried about the outcome until it happens. All in all this was a great episode and Carter managed to actually not annoy me once which is a miracle in itself Grin

NOW ONTO EVEN GREATER NEWS  Grin Grin Grin

Well I have just seen the Travellers episode and I see what you mean.  The whole thing just felt like a set up for another ally and/or adversary story arc.  I just hope they don't go the Genii line of making friends and then finding out they are baddies.  I also thought the end was rushed, it almost seemed like the writers had looked at their watches and said 'Right time to chuck Sheppard out of the air lock in his jumper'.  Not a bad episode but just a bit blah.  I am looking forward to the next episode which is currently lurking on a tape somewhere in Boggies room - lost but not forgotten  ROFL!

To tell you the truth I wouldn'tmind if we never saw the Travellers again especially since they were so unimpressive at least to me. I would rather see the Genii again then them because at least I like them as bad guys especially Koyla who they killed rather stupidly again in my opinion  Roll Eyes

I hope you find the tape and when you do and you are finished watching it tell me what you thought about it  Wink

A mysterious new illness sweeps through the Pegasus Galaxy and Teyla is convinced by a vision that the father of her child is trying to communicate with her.

This scares me because of the thought of the father having some kind of special power and knowing these writers it will pass to the child like I always feared they might do. I am just hoping it is an illusion because of the disease *fingers crossed*  Praying Praying Praying

I have just seen Missing and to be honest I really quite enjoyed this episode  Smiley.  As you said Wendi it established the new doctor but what I particularly liked was the insight it gave into Teylas background.  I can now believe how she survived in a Wraith infested galaxy for so long.  I can now also see where you were coming from with the baby.

Like you I will be pig sick if this turns out to be another 'super sprog'.  It probably would have helped if her boyfriend had been mentioned/seen before he knocked her up and disappeared  Roll Eyes.  Do you know if Rachel is pregnant in real life?  She did seem to have a little baby bump starting  Grin

But you are right, the best lines (as usual) were given to the boys, particularly John and Ronan - I loved it when Ronan just shot John cos it was easier than explaining everything again  ROFL! ROFL!

I was happy to hear that the father was a fellow Athosian but lets just keep our fingers crossed that the guy is a normal Athosian and not some guy with amazing abilities and power  Praying  I would be upset if they did that because then like I stated before I would for once just like to have a normal baby being born especially on a science fiction show like this   Praying Praying

As for the question about Rachel Lattrell (actress who plays Teyla) yes she was pregnant during the filming of the show. When she told the creators of the show that she was pregnant in real life they decided to include it into the show. This is supposed to lead into a story arc for Teyla that started in "The Seer" with the announcement of her characters pregnancy on the show and will follow throughout the season.

Now onto "Miller's Crossing" Review:

I loved this episode. It was just as good as "McKay and Mrs. Miller" and I hope to see more of it's kind in season 5 if it's possible  Grin Grin Grin

First I will tell you my disappointments in the episode because yes even though it had a lot of high points towards it sadly their were a few low points as well.  Roll Eyes

The low points were the following:

1. How easy it was for the bad guys to kidnap McKay, what was the writer thinking letting McKay go into a dangerous situation with only one other person as back up?

2. What was the point with Walter Harriman at the table? My only reasoning is that they were under time on the episode and had to add a completely pointless scene in to the episode

Now for one of the MAJOR HIGH POINT of the episode before I give you a complete review:

Absolutely NO Colonel Samantha Carter in the episode anywhere and not even a mention of her at all in the episode  Evil Grin  Cool

The show starts out with Rodney and some other scientists in a room trying to figure out the nanite problem with the Replicators. Then we have Zelenka telling Rodney to ask for help from, no not Carter the wonder girl and little miss national treasure (GAG  Evil ). The person he asked him to get help from was none other then Rodney's little sister Jeannie, Hence the name of the episode "Miller's Crossing”   Wink

Anwy, the episode ends up with a couple of kidnappings from a rich guy who wants help with something important to him. It also has the guys (McKay, Sheppard, and Ronon) in civilian clothes throughout most of the episode.

It is also mainly an earth-based episode, but one I actually enjoyed viewing unlike some other ones I have seen on Stargate (one example is "Desperate Measures" from SG1)  this episode kind of resembles that SG1 episode if you watch the two together. Although I found "Miller's Crossing” was the better of the two especially in the writing. Also by the end of this episode I actually felt bad for the bad guy unlike in "Desperate Measures" when not only did I not feel bad for the main bad guy but I also didn't care if they saved Carter or not in that episode. In fact the only really good scene on DM was when Daniel comes into the fake hospital were Carter is being held captive and ask the receptionist at the desk for help after he told him he was struck by lightening (I believe). When they refuse to help him and state that they are not open for business and demand he go somewhere else for help he asks them  if they know what it feels like to get struck by lightening. Then he continues by telling them that it feels something like this after he zaps them with the Zat Gun he had hidden in his jacket  ROFL!

Back to "Miller's Crossing" review  Azn

I also loved the back and forth banter between McKay and his sister  Grin They really do come across as as a brother and sister. I guess it doesn't hurt that they are brother and sister in real life also, LOL.

The only line I didn't agree with her on was that John Sheppard was nicer looking then Rodney was. Then again that may be because I really like the character of McKay and I think that David Hewlett isn't bad looking himself  Azn

I also loved that this episode told you what lengths McKay was willing to go to save someone he cared for.  Their is also a really great dark Sheppard scene which you won't believe what he does until you see it for yourself  Shocked

I could go on and on but you will just have to see it for yourself to decide  Grin Their was so much to love about this episode that the problems I had with it seem to be minor in comparison to what was so great about it but I thought I would mention them anyway to you  Wink

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the episodes you have yet to watch including this one. Like it or don't like it I look forward to hearing from you and anyone else who wants to talk about the show   Grin

I am so pleased Millers Crossing lived up to expectations  Grin.  I think I am still about three behind (I have just seen the Seer) so a few weeks yet.  If things go as usual though we will jump ahead of your just after Christmas  Evil

Now for one of the MAJOR HIGH POINT of the episode before I give you a complete review:

Absolutely NO Colonel Samantha Carter in the episode anywhere and not even a mention of her at all in the episode

Oh thank goodness  Roll Eyes.  I am now thoroughly fed up with Carter being in SGA but for a reason I never thought I would say - she seems to have lost her brain!!!  I know I complained bitterly about the way she always figured things out before Rodney but now it has gone completely the other way.  In the Seer the whole fate of Atlantis hung on whether the replicator virus could be restored.  So what does Carter do?  Role up her sleeves and take a look at a computer screen?  Does she heck.  No she just keeps saying to Rodney 'Are you sure you can do it'.  Why didn't she offer to have a look?

I know this sounds totally contrary but I can't accept she has gone from super brain to conductor of operations in only in two short episodes.

"The Seer" was the episode right before "Miller's Crossing" so you are in fact catching up to me. Unless the show goes on break during the Christmas holiday for you like it is for me then you will pass me for sure. The final episode of 2007 for the US is this Fridays upcoming episode "This Mortal Coil". I will have to depend yon your brilliant summaries to entertain me until the season starts up for me again in January  Grin This episode should be interesting because of two characters you will be sure to recognize returning for it Smiley

While I see what you mean by Carter seeming to have lost her brain I have to admit that  I am really happy that the writers didn't have her try and help solve the problem. It did make me feel that she trusted McKay enough as the head scientist of Atlantis to get the job done. The only thing I didn't like about that scene was the way she kept asking Rodney if he could do it and to me it was in her condescending manner. I was afraid with her comng to Atlantis that not only would she be the new leader, but she would also end up trying to outshine the already established lead scientist of Atlantis which happens to be McKay. I have a feeling also with some of these writers that you will see Carter's brilliant mind come to light soon enough kind of like it did in the beginning of the season only to annoy me  Hopping Mad

I never believed she was capable of a command position since season 8 so I am still having trouble with her be the commanding oficer of an entire base  Roll Eyes

You were right, Millers Crossing was next and I loved it  Grin Grin Grin.  It is definately the scenes between Rodney and his sister that make this episode but suspect they would make even a bad episode good.  I was pleasantly surprised by what John did, a little like with Teyla in Missing.  These are trained soldiers, the best of the best and I think sometimes they make them too fluffy.  I would love to know though if the father did actually volunteer in the end (after much emotional blackmail) or if he was dragged kicking and screaming to his death  Evil.  My one criticism of this episode is the same as with many others - the end was rushed.  Oh dear she is going to die, ah no look we performed a miracle and she lives!

And I have seen This Mortal Coil  Grin Grin.  I think we are now taking a break also, so we should be even stevens in the new year.  I won't say too much in case you haven't seen this yet.  It is one of those episodes where the whole thing is spoiler, although I only spotted one returning character  Undecided

If you have seen it, did you have a little tear in your eye at the end during the scene with Rodney and Radek?  And if you haven't seen it have a tissue ready  :'(

Only one other thing to say ... Oh CR*P  ROFL! ROFL! ROFL!

I saw "This Mortal Coil" also  Wink I read the spoilers wrong when it said returning character. They meant Weir for this one and the other returning surprise character will happen during the second half of the season. If you want to know who it is just let me know and I will tell you but if you want to keep it a surprise then we can do that to  Smiley

The break for the US will end on January 4, 2008  Grin

That scene alone was the highlight of the episode for me. The other parts were good also but I felt that some of it could have been better for a mid season finale episode.
