ive been thinking that so maybe snape is good? i hope he is cos dumbledore has so much trust in him and maybe they planned it to let voldermort think he has the upper hand, but he doesnt cos snaps gonna save the day too optimistic i think but theres always hope until the books released lol I really want to think Snape is good. I know how angry he got at Harry in the HBP when he called him a coward....well, he certainly wouldn't be a coward if he was really working with Dumbledore and playing Voldemort...and he wouldn't be a coward for killing Dumbledore at his request. Remember when Dumbledore told Snape to do something and Snape didn't want to do it, but Dumbledore told him that he had to and made him promise? Maybe that was about having to kill Dumbledore... I'll remain optimistic too...until book 7 is released.

SNAPE IS INNOCENT!!!!! Well that's what I reckon . This is another reason I think Dumbledore knows more than he is letting on. I think he knew he would have to drink the liquid in the cave to get to the locket and that it would be poison. I think he had told Snape in advance to kill him, in order to save not only Draco but Snape himself (re: unbreakable promise/oath) knowing he was doomed anyway. The only time Dumbledore ever got rattled was when Harry got angry - maybe he couldn't predict a teenage boys emotions.

Sharon, do you think it is possible that Dumbledore has known all along how this whole thing would end? You are very right, though, he's never taken aback. Pink, you remember how Dumbledore always believes in the good in people...I think he knew that Draco didn't have it in him to kill. Harry is always bothered by how trusting Dumbledore is, but I think that goes to what Sharon is saying--that Dumbledore knows much, much more than anyone can imagine. Question is, how much? Is it time for Book 7 yet?

Y'know, I've never seen anybody speculate whether the pensieve works in reverse. Or, as the greatest wizard ever, Dumbledore might have found a way to communicate with the "past" Albus when he's stirred up a memory ...

Yes I have this niggling feeling that instead of just being a participant in events Dumbledore is actually the instigator, sort of like a narrator guiding things along. I hadn't thought of an 'anti-pensive' but that would be a brilliant idea. I am still leaning towards a Merlin type character. Merlin supposedly lived backwards - started off old and got younger. That way he already knew everything that would happen. Well that is one theory anyway. That doesn't really fit Dumbledore but I do think he is guiding events along a pre-ordained path rather than trying to change them. But now he is gone and Harry is in charge who knows ......

Yet another suspicious thing about Dumbledore. I am halfway through COS and have just got to the bit where Harry is hearing the 'voices'. Dumbledore asks Harry if there is anything he wants to tell him and Harry says no. Now in this book Harry keeps saying that he thinks Dumbledore and Snape can see into his mind, which of course they can. This was a life or death situation with students lives at risk so surely Dumbledore should have just said to Harry that he knew he was lying and to tell him the truth. There is no way Harry could have resisted Dumbledore's mind probe, in fact I would suspect an untrained mind would practically throw out thoughts. Why didn't Dumbledore investigate the voices

Good point, Pink! Do you think there is anyone who could pull what little good might be in Voldemort out before it is too late? I honestly don't know. I'm inclined to think that he is purely evil now--that whatever little bit of good Dumbledore saw in him is now gone. Dumbledore says that Voldemort has no friends, no feelings for anyone or anything...that he has never known what it is to love or be loved in return. You do point out an important point--Dumbledore always seems to make a distinction between Voldemort and Tom Riddle, as though they are two different people. I wonder if that will play a role in some way. Yet another suspicious thing about Dumbledore. I am halfway through COS and have just got to the bit where Harry is hearing the 'voices'. wow sharon! youve either pointed out a very big mistake or its going to have an amazing cover story in number 7 as to why he never said anything about occlumency then, im baffled i think i'd like to dinf some good in voldermort, i want to see him slightly vulnerable, i dont like this big man attitude, there has to be a wekness that isnt love cos surely he could over power it if needs be

The reason I was asking is that they said when making the films they make sure to keep the really important stuff in. So if there was no look of triumph we might be barking up the wrong tree

I'm still pondering Sharon's point...it could be a big mistake, although, I just can't imagine JKR making such an error, so it must be that it will unfold in book 7.
From my perspective, I think that Dumbledore knew full well that Harry was withholding something, but trusted his character (and possibly his interpretation of the prophesy) enough to let Harry have things play out in their own way. Albus may not have known exactly what would happen, but he had faith that it would work out for the best, and that Harry wouldn't rise to future challenges if he wasn't allowed to make his own choices.

I completely agree. Dumbledore only asked Harry if there was something he wanted to tell him because he already knew. But, he also wanted Harry to be able to tell him when he was ready. H ewanted Harry to be able to trust him as well.

Well if Dumbledore was just giving Harry a chance to prove himself this makes me think that old Albus wasn't the goody people think he was. He knew the situation was lethal - he had been there when Myrtle died - and yet he was willing to risk every muggle born in the school to prepare Harry for the future. This either means he knew the outcome ie no one would die and Harry would prevail. Or he is a rather ruthless wizard who is willing to do anything to ensure his side prevails. Ooooo I can't wait to find out which

The reason I was asking is that they said when making the films they make sure to keep the really important stuff in. So if there was no look of triumph we might be barking up the wrong tree You are right. I know, though, that there was a scene they filmed with Dumbledore and Harry talking outside about what happened and the brother wand incident (priori Incatartem--not sure if that's right ). I really wish we could've seen that, at least on the deleted scene section. It wouldn't surprise me if they held some shots back because they want to keep the viewers guessing, at least those who have not read the books. Sharon, you know what I was thinking...remember at the end of Book 6 when Harry went into Dumbledore's office after he died? He saw Dumbledore sleeping in a painting right over his desk--could it be that he will communicate to Harry that way? The paintings do talk and seem to be pretty aware of what's going on...maybe Dumbledore is not of this earth, but it might not mean that his strength and knowledge are gone...I'm stretching again, I know. eeek sharon! i like your theory. theres way too much to dumbledore and im not sure if we're gonna find everything out and be 100% satisfied with what info she gives us in book 7. Pink, oh don't say that! :'( I want EVERY LITTLE DETAIL wrapped up in Book 7! The thought that there might be things left unanswered is, well, devastating to think about! What do you think about Dumbledore and the painting idea? Do you think he can still be a threat to Voldemort that way?
