Well folks it has finally happened. I'm really sorry to be the one breaking this news, but due to some screw up with the admin guys at the new hosts, last night they fiddled with the database and managed to mash all the data in it. To make matters worse, they didn't even take a backup first and so the long and the short of it is that we have lost the past two weeks data.
I'm particularly upset about this, as it's not just the forum, it's the price guide too and this means we've lost all the very hard work of the folks who contribute to it daily (that would be mostly Cindy and Anna). I'm so sorry guys, I'm going to try and get some kind of compensation out of these guys somehow because such incompetance for a web hosting company is really inexcusable.
Needless to say I will be working on an automatic backup method very shortly, so I am sure that I have at least a weeks worth of backups in case of an emergency.
All messages and PMs will have reverted to what they were about 2 weeks ago. Also I'm especially sorry to any new users who signed up - you'll have to register again. Your username disappearing could understandably be taken the wrong way but please don't! It was all a mistake!!
Once again, I'm really sorry. Please don't kill me.

I just checked some of the entries in the price guide, and we've lost everything for the month of June. Deep breath... Anna has entered the lion's share of auctions and I've picked up others that she didn't have room for on her eBay watch list. I know that a couple of other people enter auctions as well. Could I ask for help from everyone here? If we split up the work, we can get the price guide current again. Maybe people could sign up to do a "section" -- such as one person could do all of the auctions for June 1, someone else June 2, etc. Let us know here if you can do this, so we don't have people duplicating each other's work. Please?

Have you ever entered an auction in the price guide? It isn't difficult, but you have to pay attention that you put in the right amount (in US dollars), date, and card number. Why don't you try one?

I'll take June 3. I'll have to do it tomorrow night. Would it help if everyone went back over thier own wins and entered them? Mike - I think you do an advanced search, then check the box that says "completed auctions only".

I thought about it! I just finished the June 15 auctions, except for what hasn't ended yet. Sure, if people want to enter their auctions wins, that would help. I don't think we'll get every single auction, but hopefully we can get enough to accurately reflect where prices are going.

Question: I was looking at how to enter the auctions and there is a little check box for "sold". Do we enter them and uncheck the box if it did'nt sell? Or do we skip the auctions that didn't sell?

Thanks so much for understanding guys. It's such a pain in the ass, I can't believe it, and I'm really sorry. It turns out that they copied the file I gave them pretty much as soon as I asked them to do it. Thing is I figured out the file was a bit dodgy and so quickly replaced it with a good one, but they had already copied it by then. The server the database was on was new and for some reason hadn't been set to back up daily on any of the databases on there, so there was no recovery option. I guess they thought that if things went wrong they could just restore from one of the non-existant backups. Things did go wrong and there were no backups This doesn't mean I have forgiven them by any stretch - first off they should have figured out it wasn't backing up sooner and second it shouldn't have taken 2 weeks to do what I asked. In short they are idiots and I will be doing everything myself in future. You know what they say: if you want something done properly... *sigh* :'(

I can't tell you how furious I am! Mark and I are just totally gutted! We chose this host very carefully after extensive research on them.
Let's split it up! Maybe I could take props or something and someone else another thing! I think Anna and Cindy should go and sit with their feet up whilst the rest of us rally around on this one.
I can't do anything today as I'm just off out (minor catastrophe with my PhD data) but I will come back, check what we have etc... do we even have the SS cards in here at all?
I don't believe this - I looked happily at the SS set and felt smug as to how well everyone was doing!
Mark I think we deserve AT LEAST a refund on the 3 years hosting!

I dont know if this makes you feel any better, but I plugged in a whole days worth of ss auctions (june 4) plus have started plugging in a few others as well...and I think some of the others have been doing the same, so there should be some good data soon...
