At the risk of sounding totally clueless... what exactly are Top trumps? How do you play with them and what is the aim of the game for example? Huh

I'd never played till a few months ago! Undecided
No doubt once my son realises there's another Star Wars set for me to buy for him  Roll Eyes then he'll be trying to get me sit and play it with him.
I enjoyed playing the LOTR sets and usually thrashed him at it! Grin

Ah, so its more a matter of luck to see who wins rather than a strategy type game! Or am I wrong?

Don't worry, he usually thrashes everyone else in the house especially when it comes to PS2 games!
I'm completely useless at them but he's really good considering his age and when he plays against his Dad ~ he completely wipes the floor with him!!
Besides, it doesn't do him any harm to learn how to lose and more importantly IMHO how to lose gracefully ... a lesson many older people would do well to learn.
I wouldn't say I'm particularly competitive and definitely not ambitious (though I will chase after auctions for things I'd like) and I try to be supportive and encouraging with him as much as I can, but he has to realise that 'real life' is competitive and there will be disappointments he'll have to face, so it's better to lose to family now, than have to lose to strangers later and not know how to cope.

I'm not so sure about it being a matter of luck who wins, more a matter of playing to the strengths of each card.
Well that's my take on it. Wink
You really need Roz here to go into more detail as I know she's played it more than me. Smiley
The smart peeps actually remember who has which card which takes some doing, though I don't do that ... I'd much rather get on with playing! Wink

Okay ....

Who wants them then .... and I'll see what I can do.

They cost just under £4.00 a set at the moment (because they aren't charging for UK postage) and I'd have to find out how much shipping would cost to send them to the US and to Oz.

Let me know for definite that you want them and it might be a good idea to send me your details via PM, so I can get the P+P right.

Will that be any help? Wink

Thanks, I hate looking like I'm trying to get something for free  Embarrassed . I meant like help us get out hands on them just so I dont have people thinking nasty thoughts about me Wink And I do want one really bad but it maybe a long time before I can pay (because I have so much to buy Grin)

Not at all, it's all about knowing the skills of what you are playing with.

In cars you compared engine size or top mph etc, with LOTR for example you compared characters' ability to resist the ring or their age etc. If you are holding an elf in your hand you are bound to choose age, and if you have Gollum in your hand you are unlikely to choose resistance to ring.

Etc etc

Ah... I get it now - sounds good!

So for example, if you think your opponent is holding a Gollum card, you read out a fact about resistance to the Ring and then they can't top it? So a memory and tactic game as well.

True but you can't really know what your opponent has so you just play to your own strengths rather than their weaknesses Smiley

I just went to the site to check on progress, it says;

Harry Potter – It’s here!
29 March 2005

At long last, the most asked for edition of all times, has arrived. We've just got our packs and it really is magic! In the next week, those club members smart enough to pre-order their packs will have their's posted to them. If you didn't pre-order then you'll have to wait until it appears in the shops in the next couple of weeks.

Grin *goes to wait for posty*
