of course this is old news but it comes directly from an email from artbox to dealers (yes directly in writing from artbox to dealers)  of course everything is always subject to change before release, but this is what we are all hoping for and basing our preorders from: (anything less will be a little disappointing and more will be welcome - we will have to wait and see)

9 cinema cards?  Why do I remember hearing less, although maybe I am just thinking of the insertion rato that was given.

My local guy preordered 2 cases for me for $525 each - he hasn't said anything to me yet about it being more, but he is the kind of guy that would eat it rather than tell me I had to pay him more.

I think a lot of dealers are doing just that - MPC is holding his preorder price to those who bought from him earlier this summer... he'll be making a loss on those cases so Kudos there!

(and Gimli is also holding his price too but he's only selling to Ben and me and he wants to open all the rest himself... he's a sucker for base set sorting )

I think the big problem lies with not the manufacturer of this set but unfortunately with the collector!!!
How do I come to this conclusion you may ask-this is how?
I believe it is because of the greed of us that we all thought we could make a quick buck from this that we all ordered huge thus making the product a huge buyout release.Does everyone think that for one minute all these cases would have been made if the demand hadnt been there and the preorders been so massive.
I understand that there are those of us who have bought as much as we could afford to get a good start on the set but I think this set has been damaged by the overwhelming success of the first series.
We cannot blame the manufacturer to try and supply demand - remember they do not get paid on secondary market prices and they need to make money as it is a business so this is there way and I do not believe we can begrudge them that.
How would we all feel if they only now produced 300 cases because inserts were damaged and most of us were heavily allocated -I am sure it would spark the same reaction but for opposite reasons.
All you can ask for from a manufacturer is a good product with quality inserts and not too many repeats and I think Artbox have done a good job.
My two penneth anyway and Roz will appreciate the effort this took as I hate typing and texting!!I much prefer speaking!!

Mpc, I think you bring along a great point!!  For those of us (the collector and people looking to resell) who went nuts over the first set, and then showed such a high demand for this one, Artbox sees they have a good product and wanted to make more this time to try and satisfy us all.  They didn't realize that this might upset some of us.  But MPC, you are right, this really is all our faults for showing such a high demand for this item. If it was not so popular, I am sure less than 1800 cases would be made, as Artbox is trying to make their money as well.  And with all this hype, they saw the opportunity too.  All I have to say is, nicely put.

Yes you are spot on there! But in truth in my 7 cases do you think I'll get a master set plus spares to sell and make a quick buck? No!

I'll basically sell/trade etc spares to get as much as possible... and what I still can't complete with that I'll have to miss out on - this is one heck of a huge set It's cool - we have no idea of odds yet on the props etc but assuming they can't be as bad as the auto odds... I hope to collect most other things quite quickly!

I was going to say that you will have plenty dups probably to sell/trade with 7 cases!!!! Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't though, and everything you got was one you needed

I have almost all the costumes from the first set with the exception of Hermione's sweater, and the 100 Ron and Harry and the 500 UK exclusive Harry cards.  But how nice would it be to have a master set.  I must say, I am envious of those that do!!  But like you, I will settle for what I can get and what I like and be happy with it

Yes Roz but isnt this whole hobby based on collecting.I will demonstrate a point quickly based on a childhood experience of mine.
I had a friend who was very wealthy or his family were and although he could have anything he wanted he was denied something that money couldnt buy.The feeling of achievement of collecting something over time -searching for bargains and after a year or more of collecting sitting back and saying I have done it.Of course he could have the same set but he could just go out and buy it but there would be no feeling in it for him.
Basically what I am trying to say is that although a master set would be nice why should we feel the need of right that we should have one or be able to have one.If it was that easy to attain then where would the hobby be.This hobby works because of the impossibility of collecting some of the sets either through scarcity or expense and the word collecting is often forgotten.

the only master set we've got is TTU .... and then I have a smattering of autos from other LOTR sets.

I'd like to have a solid bash at one in seven cases... I don't mind if I sell, exchange, trade etc to get one - but I'd like to think there was a good chance of getting a good way there in £2,500 I have to thow money at it MPC, my luck doesn't flow to pulliing a Triple auto from a pack from Toys R Us!

I catch your drift MPC - collectors *shouldn't* be buying by the case - it just double's triples quadrouples the demand... but those collectors between us who want a nice set (not necessarily a master set) and couldn't last time because prices just went out of our reach too fast are bound to have reacted this time... it's human nature to try to avoid it happening again really

I agree. Like I said, I might get so e cards from my three boxes, but then it is off to find bargins.  For example, I do not have a master set of the first run, but don't get me wrong, I am watching those auctions every day and waiting for the ones I want to look affordable.  It may never happen, but the hunt sure is fun and exciting!!!

There's a fine line in this instance.

I know collectors who buy more cases than ful time dealers.
I know part time dealers (with other income) who buy more cases than full time dealers.
I know retail outlets that buy less than collectors, part-time and full time dealers.

If you couldn't buy a couple boxes at wholesale price then no comic shop would ever stock trading cards.

But then when collectors can buy cases at or near wholesale value it cuts the dealers out and without dealers the market would collapse.

However, when buying cases, which is essentially a wholesale unit, why shouldn't the collector receive a discount?

Perhaps its when collectors begin to sell their spares on eBay under actual market value the problems begin?  

Maybe cases shouldn't be accessable to collectors in one respect.
I like cars, but if I buy one I don't get a wholesale price if I buy 6 of them. And at the moment cars are still more expensive than cards (although this is changing lately  )

Who really knows, its all opinion and not fact.

I think that it is very interesting reading all the different views expressed here. Like kbmum and rns has said, I'm glad that we can all be civil and not rip each others heads off at the sign of disagreement. I've seen it happen before.

I only got to open one pack from the retail set and ended up giving it to my neice. My sister bought the binder and ended up giving it to me because she was dissapointed, and I am slowly buying everything else. With this set, I have preordered boxes and have a bit of money back to hunt for individual cards. For me, it is all about the hunt and hoping some year I'll get all the ones that I want or even have a master set

How true!  I was able to buy only 31 packs from the first set, and this time I'm getting five boxes.  I won't get caught unaware again!    However, I don't think I'll ever buy more than half a case.  I'm just not comfortable spending that much money as a small-time collector, and like Zero, I want to have some cash left over to buy the inserts I know I won't get in my boxes.

I think each collector should collect how they wish to and nobody should critise their choice.  

Just be happy in your hobby!
