So, Roz, how are your studies going lately?  

Trying to avoid them  (unfortunately I can't)  - I am in limbo between finishing fieldwork and continuing analysis and starting to write up - it's all to hideous to think about!

of course I have to put my own perspective up on this

Here it is:  I found out about HP POA late and shelled out over $2000 dollars for 17 boxes.  (I think many had the same experience).  My goal was to avoid that by buying early and enough this time around and by the case!  

If you are going to buy by the box you expect to get a higher price.  For example my local dealer (cards not drugs people ) sold me a case of Star Wars Heritage for $440 for 8 boxes ($55 each).  He has single boxes in his store for $79.95 each.  Now certainly that is OK that he does that and passed me a better price for preordering and buying quantity.  

Now I don't know the retail business side of the hobby shop that well, but I know he has to buy a certain quota from his distributor to get the level of pricing and perks that come with it.   The way I look at it he helped me and I helped him (and I got a good price in the process)

I don't believe in buying boxes one at a time, (off ebay or retail site) and having to pay shipping and handling, if you can afford to by more and avoid the $8-$10 most sellers charge without insurance add another $2-$5 for insurance and that just added 15% - 20% to the cost of a box.  If you bought 10 boxes of Update seperately you might have to pay $100-$150 in shipping, handling, and insurance

Point being like Roz said I think every member of this forum who could bought as much as they could afford so they would get it!  I know I spent 20-30 hours or more on the phone and internet trying to track down boxes of POA (original release).  

And for the most part I think most members who are on the site are collectors first (or we wouldn't spend so much ((or maybe too much)) time trying to get whatever info we can on HP and LOTR).  

I don't blame Artbox for producing so much (if the 1,800 is true again it might not be that much) or us for ordering so much...but I will blame them for releasing insert ratios to early and then scaling them back from there.  If I made a Yak Shack card set and I told everyone Roz and the Head Yak autos were 3 per case and clothing cards were 7 per case I think everyone would make there purchasing decision based on that info it would be wrong of me to lessen the inserts because the demand was so strong.

Wow, Beckham.  I agree with everything you said.  

The folks at Artbox aren't exaclty inspiring my confidence.  Making things needlessly complicated is the first way to lose people.  If they wanted to portion-out the information they should have started months ago, not within a few weeks of the release.  And don't go changing the rules right before the game!  That's really bush league.

I respect Artbox's right to make as much money as they possibly can.  They're a business.  But I watched World Championship Wrestling go from having the WWF on it's knees, to being sold to the WWF for pennies on the dollar.  Once you get to the top of the mountain, it doesn't mean you can be cocky.  Artbox sure is dancing on a slippery slope.

Gee, a wrestling analogy.  I'm sorry.  (The POA cards were beside the wrestling cards at the Target and, well...)

By the way, has anyone taken into consideration that maybe the figure Artbox quoted is a combination of both Hobby and Retail cases/boxes?

Hmm...you're right.  I didn't think they were making a retail box, but there it is for preorder on the Georgetown site for $30 less than the hobby box.

Good point on the retail (actually is there going to be a retail issue haven't heard anything on that)

The thing I like about Artbox is that they have provided some info rather than keeping us guessing, but if they change the ratios that they announced then that is disappointing.  I would understand if they changed the autos because they didn't get one returned or something like that.  We will see

Talked with a dealer I know tonight.  The print run figure that he heard was (are you ready) 800 cases (or 8,000 boxes, if you will.)  His autograph rumors include both dual and triple autograph cards.  He said the tins will be released one week after the set (the week of the 10th).  And most importantly, he's going to save me two cases.  (I have nothing to put in parentheses here except, "Yeah, baby!")

Only 800 Cases? Much better then 1800. Can anyone confirm this info again... and again...  

8000 boxes and 14 (!) autograph cards. And the chance to get 2 in one case..... than MANY autos are VERY limited or not

Hold on...there are retail boxes?  Last I heard was that the update was not going to have retail boxes.  I saw them on Gerogetown's site, but can anyone confirm?

And yesterday I hear 1800 cases, and now 800.  IS there anyway we can find out which number is correct, I mean they are both similar, just one is missing the one (and I don't mean similar in amounts, I mean in looks, for example, could the person who said 800 missed the 1 in front of the number?)

Well I am glad to hear that the case run is around 1,250 cases.  That is way better than 1,800.  And the props will be every 3.5 boxes.  that is a big relief.
