I'm going to see this movie tonight.  I've seen the first 2 movies, but have to admit that I'm pretty much clueless about the X-men.  I never read any of the comics.  Is there some sort of compilation of the comics that comes in book form?  How can I read about the X-men without buying all kinds of comic books?

The only thing that could make this more perfect would be for Rogue to absorb the powers then turn around and bump straight into Keanu Reeves as Gambit 

Gambit was originally supposed to be a small cameo roll in the film, but they only wanted one guy to play it, and he turned it down, saying it was to much like a character he was currently playing on TV. The actor being Josh Holloway from LOST. Yep, they offered Sawyer the Gambit cameo. Kinda interesting, I think.

There are loads of Graphic novels available Kelly but the X Men are so complicated that you would have to pick a time frame and go with it.  My favourite, golden age for the X Men was when the new crowd (Storm, Wolverine etc) joined.  Or maybe try looking for a Starjammers story or Savage Land.  The artwork on these is my all time favourite and the stories sort of very loosely tie in with the film.  

I saw about Josh Holloway and the Gambit role ....  .  I would still prefer Keanu in a main role

Sharon, i'm all for Gambit.. one of my fav characers - but Keanu??are you nuts?? Theres no way Keanu could pull off that Gumbo role!!

No one mentioend in addition to all the other great little comics tidbits that appear inthe  movie - the fact that Iceman finally goes all popsiscle on us - i loved that bit!!

some people actually applauded in the theater i was in and a guy two rows behind me shouted "Iceman's so hot!!!!!!!!!" which totally killed the moment  .

but it is a shame to get rid of so many charactors

they can collect their particles, get them together and make a new mutant with multiple powers and personality disorders for the next movie

Remember the patient Xavier is talking about? About inserting a "soul" into him and what ethics must be taking into acount and blah blah, well, at the end basicly Prof. X's soul is put into him.

You should try out the Astonishing X-Men Series....seriously, it kicks some MAJOR A**
Joss Weadon is writing it (yeah, Buffy and Firefly)

I think they are around issue 20 now...the best bet is the trade paperbacks since the first 6 or so issues bring in a good amount of money and are tough to find.

$15 for the Dark Phoenix Saga TPB? That's not a bad price at all.

I agree Mike that is a very good price for that one and I would highly recommend it.  The story is fantastic but don't get too hung up on trying to match it with the film - just look at it as an alternate version    And let me know when you have read it

A friend lent me a comic book called X Men - I think "Origins" and it was the story behind Wolverine. Very enjoyable it was too, although that is the only X Men comic book I have ever read.
