Hi Cynthia,

I LOVE both the Gimli sketches I have seen you have done and also the Gollum one too - do you think you could keep tabs on them and ensure they go in my boxes?

Your help is much appreciated

Hello Cynthia:

Outstanding artwork!  Do you have a favorite LOTR's character you like to draw?

Roz, it's the luck of the 'draw' (pun intended). Favorite characters?  This may sound obvious, but I like drawing Frodo because of the expression in his face/eyes.  I like drawing Sam for the same reason. Hobbits are fun to draw in general:) Gollum, of course, is enjoyable as well. Talk about a range of expression!

I'm looking forward to this product, but Randy Martinez Sketches are so awful(IMO), that it makes me hesitant to buy a box. The man can do really nice work, as I've seen some of his sketches on ebay that are fantastic. I hope he doesn't do more "stick figures" like he did with Star Wars. :'(

Now, I haven't seen any of them for this set, so I will remain hopeful. The sketches I have seen posted(like Cynthia's) are so out of this world fantastic, that I know I'll be spending some money chasing them.   Ebay!

The CC cards are superb. Worth  paying money for.  The other five sketches are juvenile. Just my opinion.

I think the card quality is very variable - but it's only the equivalent of getting a FIGWIT Wink

Anyway, there are some other great sketches done by the other artists, for instance (thanks for the site RupT) I like this  Sohn

I have to say I'm seriously disturbed that Randy Martinez has been hired again

OMFG - that is shocking Shocked Shocked Shocked

The Elrond would be funny if it was in a comic, but if I pulled that in a box, I would be seriously p***ed off! Roll Eyes

Lets hope Martinez's sketches are few and far between* Praying

*yeah right Roll Eyes

I'm not sure how or why Topps is allowing the Burger King king on a LOTR sketch card. And, I hate those ads to boot, so blech on that.

Though, I must say, the Hodges, Cummens and Kayanan all have me drooling Smiley

...and it also limits worldwide appeal because we don't have that Burger King thing in the UK.

The sad truth is that I think those are some of the best sketches we'll see by Martinez in that set Sad

What's that weird sound I hear? Oh it's Tolkien spinning in his grave.

yah, I thought about that afterwards that I should have explained the reference. Burger King is a (as I'm sure you've guessed) a fast food restaurant similar to McDonald's, but instead of a clown hawking their burgers, they have a King. In their latest round of advertising, the King as depicted by Martinez goes place to place just staring stupidly at people as they eat.

And I still don't get the connection *other* than Burger King is a licensee of LOTR merchandise - Burger Kings here had all the toys in the kids meal and other assorted paraphenalia...

Unfortunately we do have the "restaurants" but not the King adverts (perhaps we should be grateful for small mercies??).

That's true, I suppose Tolkien first started haunting the halls of Magdalen when people were drinking fizzy drinks out of cups with Aragorn's face on back in 2001  ROFL!

I think the Elrond as Agent Smith is hilarious, but NOT for an official card set.  As a commissioned work, it'd be great!

If Topps approves the Burger King, I'll be very upset...

And you didn't even mention the dog sample sketch... That's just wrong........ (but not as wrong as the Burger King)

I didn't get the dog sketch until it was explained to me. I don't care how Mr. Martinez defends it, *Topps* should have said, politely and with respect - This is a CHARACTER based set, please stick to the LOTR Characters as depicted in the film.

It's one thing in a Family Guy set where the show itself mocks Pop Culture to include Pop Culture references, but LOTR should have stayed true to the set composition.

Honestly, if I were to get any of those Martinez sketches I'd send them back to Topps requesting a proper sketch instead of crap. Shocked Hopping Mad

Probably wouldn't get anything out of it, but they might get the idea if more people tell them.

Well considering they only have listed the # of sketches for 6 of the artists so far and it totals almost 2,800 sketches and someone said there are 47 artist doing sketches.  I will use some round #'s but lets say avg of 500 sketches each.  That would total 23,500 sketches in 8 box cases lets assume 1 sketch per box= 2,937 cases of Evolution.

That sounds pretty Topps like.  Don't think these will disappear anytime soon.  And that isn't even accounting for the retail cases.
