Well, I received my first Auto piecework card today from Ebay...Sawyer...Shannon is hopefully in the mail by now!

I am a little concerned. Not for my card or anything like that, but simply for the amateur collector. I was looking over the Sawyer auto piecework and the first thing I noticed is that the swatch is smaller than the normal piecework, this is not the case with the Kate or Shannon cards, the auto piecework and normal piecework are both the same size.
Then I looked on the back of the card as I always do, and this is what I read.

On the top in yellow is says "Pieceworks" and below it, it says "Authentic show-worn item" then below that is says "Item featured is a t-shirt worn by josh halloway as Sawyer Ford in the season one episode "Pilot".

it says the exact same thing on the shannon and kate auto pieceworks just with different names and show info and what not. Now this is what concerns me. The ONLY difference on the Kate and Shannon pieceworks is that they are numbered PWA-1 and PWA-3 and not PW-1 and PW-3.

I am suprised that Inkworks did not print ANYWHERE on the card that it is the autograph piecework card and not the normal piecework card...what if E. Lilly or Maggic Grace were at a convention and I brought 10 of their normal pieceworks and paid $20 a card to have them signed...they would look IDENTICAL to the real thing with the only difference being that it is missing an "A" in the numbering on the back of the card...I am sure about 50% of collectors would never even notice this...you could go onto Ebay and make around $200 on your $40 investment....it's a little scary.

I really hope Inkworks fixes this for the season two set...I think I might e-mail them and just tell them what I just said here. What does everyone else think?

Bryan, I'd tell you to put your auto PW in a row on the top and then the three standard pieceworks below those and then play a game of spot the difference.

For example

and

They have moved the word 'pieceworks' on the PWA to the top to leave space clear for the autograph.

Besides, I do believe collectors to be very observant people. I don't spend £200 on a card and merely give it a cursory glance before putting it in my binder and forgetting about it for an eternity - people do notice the difference between the Ron /100 PoA cloak and the Ron /500 PoA cloak...

Someone asked me a question about the Shannon PW3 & asked if I had a ruffle variant.

I see the ruffle in the picture, but how can you tell if you have one or not?  I've got a light purple card & a dark purple card.

Yeah I have a light and dark card also (well, my light has a gradient from very light to med strong purple) - but I have no 'ruffle' - this card is hard enough to find in packs without there being mega-variants Roll Eyes

Well I feel a bit ignorant... I don't see how you CAN tell you've got a ruffle...

I personnally tend to stay away from those type of autographed cards.  Don't be fooled by the "certificate of authenticity"  They really don't mean a thing.  I've seen a lot of Harry Potter autographed items from that seller and wondered how in the world they can end up getting autographs of so many famous people all the time.  Undecided  If it's cheap enough for you maybe you want to take a chance, but the best way to be sure an autograph is authentic is to get one form the LOST inkworks card set.  Or from the actors personnally at a card show or other appearance.  I hope that helps.  Wink

The seller claims they were all signed at some show, Thats why I posted it here, becuase i've read of many shows people have attended, just wondering if anyone knows of a show where all those cast members were present at the same time.

I would personally not buy it because you really will never know if the sig's are authentic or not...just my opinion.

I wouldn't buy it either for the same reasons that Kelly and Trey mentioned. Also, even if the actors/actresses in question did attend some shows and sign autographs, that doesn't necessarily mean that the seller was there as well.

The autos may be authentic. They may not be. There are far more fakes that authentics out there - I wouldn't risk it.

Yeah, they claim it was signed at the Screen Actors Guild Awards after party.  Not something that just any Joe can get into.  This seller seems to be invited to a LOT of these affairs.  Roll Eyes  If that was really the case, they wouldn't have to hawk autos on ebay.  Plus I see that they live in Georgia!  Quite a world away from Hollywood!  ROFL! ROFL!

We have a thread that discussed this topic that you may find interesting.  It contains pictures of some framed cards. Cool
