Okay, the price is high. Maybe too high. But only one card is missing (the grey T-shirt). All 16 Autographs and all the rest. Let´s see what happens.

After thinking about it, maybe $5000 is just about right for an asking price.

Did some rough calculations.  I added up all of the 'average of the last 5 sold' prices from the price guide on the big ticket items and it comes to:


$4617.99


This total excludes the following items also in the auction:
-Base Set
-All 5 promo Sets
-Binder
-Sell Sheet
-Box Topper Set
-Hobby Foil Set
-Retail Foil Set

I think if those were added in at the current ebay going rate, the total would be pretty close to the starting bid of $4,999.00


Of course if he had the Harry T-Shirt card and the 5 tin cards (and maybe threw in the UK set with exclusive Choir Conductor autograph), then the market value would definately reach the starting bid value.

But I do think people prefer not to buy master sets, but to pick and choose cards as they go along - perhaps buy a variant Fizzing Whizzbees or just look out for swatches that they like.

It also makes it easier to pay for if you buy in chunks. It's true that you would spend a lot on postage on individual items but ... I think it would be worth it to pick and choose.

I must saw DewDude that I am surprised that a master set of these adds up to so much   (but the price guide ain't lying).

Yes, interesting calculation. Maybe it´s nearly worth the money. But i don't think, he is selling the set for this price. And no pics of the prop cards. So there are no variants, i guess. I wouldn´t buy the set. But i'm curious about watching, if someone will buy it.

It may not apply to this auction, but eBay/PayPal has a payment plan option for auctions over US $199.00.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a buyer who purchased almost every card in this set (and maybe every card -- I might have missed some of his auctions).  For many of them, he paid well above average price guide prices.  Someone like him/her might be interested in a set like this.

the odd thing is there's no mention of creature cards (they lump Monster book in as a prop)... and there's definitely no memorabilia set (tin, warrick auto, diamond foil base)

If you look at the picture, there are Whomping Willow and Grim cards next to the Monster Book of Monsters.

Yes the 3 Creature cards are in, the desciption is clear in my opinion. But not the Memorabilia Set, that´s right.

I have to agree with Roz, getting to pick individual cards and getting a nice variant to add to ones collections is a much nicer way to build a collection. Also it is fun to watch and statigize a bid on eBay in hopes of finding a bargain.

Yes, erevine, this could have been my words. That´s exactly the fun i have. And the best is getting a bargain and a variant at the same time.

That's brilliant news for the seller. One lot of postage, one (huge) lot of ebay and paypal fees, very easy.

That's interesting. It's the same guy/girl who bought the first complete Master Set (with Pear Tree Leaves) for $5.999, this was also too much money a few months ago. It seems that he/she doesn't collect little pieces (single cards). He waits and then the price seems to be not important, if there is a complete MasterSet, it's time to buy for him.
It's an easy way with not much work. But in my opinion also with not much fun. And too expensive for me. That's not my style. Where is the fun?
But great for the seller.
