As this is a global forum, we have members from all over the US, Canada, Australia etc etc it would be great to have your opinion, as you never know - some of your might take holidays outside your motherland!!!
Well, my parents work in Windsor, that's the place with the biggest inhabited castle in the world (see below)
and even in this day and age of Terrorism the Queen flys a flag when she is home and doesn't fly a flag when she isn't at home (which seems obvious really as she's not there to hoist it up
ha if you believe the rumours that Prince Charles doesn't even tie his own shoelaces or put his own toothpaste on his toothbrush then you aren't going to believe that she hoists her own flags are you? Ahh well, back to the point!
My parents commute 150 miles a day from our home in Hampshire in order to work in Windsor, they don't mind the journey in summer but in Winter it can be a nightmare in the rain and dark. So they are wondering whether to buy a small flat in Windsor, in fact htey have their eye on one, it's being converted from a 5 floor Victorian house into 5 2 bedroomed flats, kitchen, living area, one bathroom, one en suite shower room and a small living area.
The location of this flat is 35 paces from the castle and in fact it is on the same road as the Castle. They would intend to stay a few nights during the week in the winter and then in the summer rent it out - everything will be new as it's all being rennovated by builders now. Would this be the sort of place you would enjoy renting whist you were on holiday in the UK?
Windsor is a lovely place to be, first off it seems half the local population is employed by the Queen
and secondly the Queen owns half the land - so it's an odd shaped place - the High Street is perpendicular to the Castle, and so the town with the shops (and the non royal accommodation) is crescent shaped because the other half is parklands - most of which is available for the public to walk around. Although the Queen does walk the Corgis on it.
