So, Im interested in making them. Books, primarily, and perhaps a few other assorted items that I have the skills and supplies to make. Im really going to need some help with this. If you guys could help me, that would be fantastic. Im not exactly sure how long it will take me to turn around a prop, but I will let everyone know how its going. It may take a while because Im a perfectionist, and nothing will be finished until is at a screen-usable quality. Like I mentioned, books, most likely some of the easier ones first, like Unfogging the Future, with a simple dust jacket. No need for hair, fangs, metal, snake skin, or anything like that, just Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and a bit of artistic ability. Perhaps Ill delve into that later, but Im going to start slow first. Also, any props, shirts, etc that are screen-printed will only require art time, so Victor Krums task uniforms, tank, long-sleeve, etc, will all be very easy to make if I have a good reference.

References. Thats what I need most. If anyone has any high quality photos of books, any books, or of the Krum wear, please, I would really appreciate if you posted them in this thread. Also, ideas would be wonderful as well. Maybe creating props that arent actually shown in the movies, like additional issues of the Quibbler or Daily Prohpet. Oooh, Daily Prophet would be a blast to make. Now where can I find some moving pictures?\

Here are some of the Lockhart books. :)  If you're looking for moving pictures, you might want to consider some of the chocolate frog cards.  I've been working on a couple of Lockhart books (that's why I have the reference pictures), and I'm going to use his chocolate frog card on one of the covers.  By the way, the Year with the Yeti book sold on eBay for $1,500.

Im relieved, I thought they might have been replicas and my heart sank, making those or topping them will take a lot work. I think I could do it, though. So how did someone get a hold of one to sell on ebay?

I purchased it off of Ebay about three years ago.  It's my one and only prop.  I'll see about getting you some more scans.  I don't think there was anything on the inside flaps.  The book was about flowers.  It's a nice English book.

I love all of your props, Kelly, but my favorite is the pygmy puff! :D  I didn't find any of the gold cages last Christmas, but I will be looking again this year. :)

I found some more pictures and thank goodness I found all the files for my quidditch program!!  I was getting worried.  I still can't find the pictures of my pixie, mandrake or death eater wand.  That makes me sad.  :'(

I didn't make the page myself unfortunately so i don't know where the illustrations came from.
All the stuff that i have posted comes from a fantastic lady here in the UK called Tracey. She sells on ebay under the name of tmw17.
I don't know if she makes the replicas anymore because although she still sells on ebay i have not seen anymore of the items that i have.
I originally bought a couple of the replicas from her on ebay and then she e-mailed me a list of all the other replicas that she made. I think that i must of bought practically everything that she made! All of which i have posted here.
The Polyjuice Potion Page was a superb surprise because it was a replica that i didn't know she made and it wasn't on the list of items that she had for sale. Because of the amount of stuff that i had purchased and for being such a good buyer, she e-mailed me when she posted the items and told me that she had put in an extra item but she wouldn't tell me what it was!.
So you can imagine my reaction when i pulled the Polyjuice Potion Page out of the envelope! ;D

I'm not even sure if Tracey still sells the prop replicas and i no longer have her price list that she e-mailed to me but they were not expensive at all. I think they ranged from £5 up to £10 or just above.
I have e-mailed Tracey regarding some new items. If she e-mails me back i will ask her if she still sells all the old items and if so i will get her to e-mail me another price list.

Hey Bitsy!. I just got my reply back from Tracey ;D
She is still making the props but she has said that she has been so busy recently that the props have taken a bit of a back seat.
At the moment she is working on a Progress Report from OOTP which should be finished in a day or two. She is going to send me pics when it is done so as soon as i get them i will try and post them here :D.
Tracey has also said that she is updating the O.W.L.S exam paper with an extra half a page and the shape has changed as in the movie it seems to be longer and thinner.
I can't believe this!...i am so jealous. Tracey has said that she has been lucky enough to buy a real O.W.L.S exam, although it is very torn and ripped but she has managed to get her prop to look more like the real thing now....although there will be a few minor differences.

Also, Bitsy, mcgonagall and canny 19....I have also asked her to e-mail me a list of all her props that she has for sale and their prices so as soon as i get it i will post them here for you.

I'm interested too!  I just don't have time to do props like I used to.

I have almost finished the cover to a couple of DPs from Prisoner. I'm currently working on the Fizzing Whizbees.

I just love your DP Kevin.  It is amazing that you could put it all together.  I was telling my husband about your prop replicas and he asked me if it was all okay with Warner Bros.  I told him there were quite a few people round the world doing replicas but do you know what the situation is?  I am just curious.

Also I was wondering if it is possible to get a copy of that front page so it is readable?  I would like to read it.   :)

If I were to try and sell any of the replicas I make I would be in breach of copyright. With Harry Potter the copyright is licensed to Warner Brothers. They protect it fiercely because anybody who has sub-licensed the rights from them wouldn't want somebody like me undercutting them and ruining their market. If I wanted to sell my replicas I really should approach WB and negotiate a licence. That would mean an initial payment to them and then a royalty for each item sold. At the end of the licence period I would have to pay them a lump sum for any shortfall in sales (relative to the minimum sales figures they would find acceptable).

That said, there is a slightly grey area around creating and selling a one-off, fan produced tribute item because it starts to enter the "art" market.

Basically, that's why I only do these for my own amusement. Also, I buy a lot of licensed items but nobody has done a DP or accurate wizard candy and it doesn't look like they're going to.

Oh and the text on the front page is just the excerpt from the first book repeated and chopped up a bit.
The graphics department were able to have some fun and write new stories on the inside and back pages.

I am struglling to decipher the blurry picture I have of the original prop from when it went to auction a few years ago. I am getting there, but there are some words I can't make out. What doesn't help is that they chop and paste copy to fit the shapes so it doesn't always make sense.

The prop card scans that were posted here helped me pin down the crossword clues that I have filled in. There are only eight or nine of them and they repeat. One prop card allowed me to work out which square on the crossword is "5".

I think I'm going to have to make up the rest to finish this one off.

The top piece is really annoying. It has been so chopped up that it doesn't read well, although the gist of it is funny, and it has several names in it that don't relate to Potter. I'm going to go back to the DVD credits to read the names of everyone in the graphics department. That might answer another couple of questions.

On the extras disc for OotP, there's a sequence where the actress who plays Tonks tours the production offices. She meets a guy is Lima. The first reporter credited on the front page of the first PoA paper his also called Lima, but a different forename; his son maybe?

I am new to the forum and to posting and so will probably end up putting this mesage in the wrong place :-[
Anyway a few of you already know me from Ebay and may have some of my prop replicas in your collections.
This is just a warning about another Ebayer who has recently been stealing other peoples work and then printing cheap copies and then selling as their own work or even describing them as genuine props from the film. >:() He tried to buy an OWLs exam from me to sell as a real prop and then went on to try and sell my Hogwarts Bus Pass as is own work after taking an image of it from this forum. He has also stolen a Bertie Botts replica from an artist in Brazil and has been selling it as his own work. So beware.... ;) 

Have you reported this seller to eBay?

Yes I did .......about a 100 times and finally they removed the listings.....but he is still getting away with selling the Bertie Botts prop that the other Ebayer made...even though i reported it and so did the original artist. I just hate the thought of someone being ripped off by this person. I know he has contacted others asking for copies of my props  >:(

I'm surprised that eBay allows the replicas to be sold at all.  Two or three years ago, eBay made sellers remove these kinds of listings for violating Warner Bros.'s copyrights.

Sorry that your first post on the board couldn't of been a happier one.
Unfortunately some people have no morals and are quite happy to make money out of other peoples hard work.
It seems that no matter how hard you try there are always going to be people that do this kind of thing. Unfortunately you don't have 50 pairs of eyes to keep track of them
so even if they are eventually banned from ebay or have their listings removed they will always pop up somewhere else!

It is sad that there are people out there so unscrupulous as to steal (yes, it's a harsh word, but essentially that is what it is) another's  creations, pass them off as their own, or attempt to mislead others into believing they are buying an authentic movie prop. It's just sad. Take comfort that there is such a thing called Karma.

they bought the template from the artist in brazil.
and he apparantly was glad to share his design with the other person

On a more serious note however ... before you post any more photos of you hard work on here, it might be a good idea to use photo-editing software to put a watermark on them, so any of the non-Forum members (or lurkers) who trawl through all the posts aren't able to 'lift' these pictures and claim them as their own.

That is incorrect.  The Brazilian seller clearly states in his auctions that his Bertie Botts box was copied and is being sold by another eBay seller. 

I don't usually put on my mod hat, but this time, I am.  There is apparently a problem on eBay with one or more sellers who use other people's HP-inspired designs and props to produce knockoffs.  Anyone who is interested in purchasing prop replicas or (what they believe to be) actual props should do some research before bidding or BINning.  Any Shack member who steals someone else's designs and/or photos (particularly those posted on the Shack) will not be allowed to advertise their auctions in Diagon Alley and will end up banned from this site.  Also be forewarned that eBay does cancel auctions when the seller uses pictures taken from other auctions or sources.  The pictures used on eBay are supposed to be taken by the seller of the actual product that is being sold.

If any member wishes to post photos of the props they've created, please be advised that this is a public forum which can be viewed by ANYONE, even those who have not registered on the site.  Photos that show in-depth details could be used by others to produce their own props, which they could then try to sell.

It should also be noted that Warner Bros. owns the rights to all images in the HP movies.  Anyone who sells items based on props in the movies could be violating Warner Bros. copyrights.  I know for a fact that eBay has canceled such auctions in the past, with the threat that WB could institgate legal action against the seller.  WB has a team of lawyers and vast financial resources; most eBay sellers do not.

im a lead to believe there is also lots of resources out there like images ect that will help potential enthusiasts
make there own box so therfore the brazilian cannot really say it was copied as there are many different ways in which people can make these boxes
 so therefore that seller should not really be stating in  there auctions ect that the item was copied because any one can make it if they know how and there is many different ways to make as i have made a bertie box myself

the earlier message from mugglemum is a little unfair as she has mentioned about the fact that the item was stolen ect but is this not potentially damaging to other sellers who may want to sell a bertie botts box in the future expecially if lots of people see the message mugglemum wrote on here then other ebay sellers may not be able to sell there replicas because of what she has said. i do agree with what everyone is saying though

With everyone working off of the same reference material, yes, the props will be similar.  The particular Brazilian seller, though, alleges that someone made an exact replica of his artwork.  I've seen images of the Bertie Botts box, but if people want to make a full-size replica, they have to draw the faces and other graphics themselves.  The various artists/prop makers will have minor differences on the final product.

I said that people need to do their own research before bidding or BINning.  That holds true for just about anything anyone might want to buy.  The only sellers who are at a disadvantage with an informed buyer are the ones who aren't conducting their business on the up-and-up.

I'll even go out on a limb here with my personal belief that maybe people shouldn't be buying items that infringe on Warner Bros.' and J.K. Rowling's copyrights.

Hi, I followed the discussion on this thread and we all know that some black sheeps are making money with the works of others >:( . But is it possible to put all informations together so everyone can create their own replicas. I was thinking about informations about the cliparts used by the propmaster or which fonts they are using and so on. I think this would be a very valuable ressource for all of us. The galleries at the Leaky Cauldron have a variety of prop and costume pictures from all of the movies.  You'll have to navigate around the galleries to find what you want, though.  Some of the best pictures were taken at traveling exhibits.

I've yet to find any official clipart.  Warner Bros. has its own art department to produce the artwork, and I can't imagine the company would freely give it out for other people to use.

Hi kbmum, yes I saw those usual Harry Potter fonts but I thought about those used in the Daily Prophets and other paper props. Some of them like Fette Fraktur, Blackcastle and Formal Text Hand are available online. The propmaster used the extensive dover clipart collection but I haven't found out which one exactly. If we all put our energy in it we can find out which ressources the art department are using.

I spent ages and ages looking for fonts that may have been used for the OOTP Daily Prophet title to no avail! In the end I had to draw my heading letter by letter.
There are fonts available for the text used for the OWL's , progress reports etc. The decrees are quite fun to do as there are often 2 or more fonts being used in any one sentance or sometimes in one word!
I think the Dover clipart may have been used by the art dept to but unless you want to go down the very costly route of buying them all then drawing them yourself may be a better and less costly option.

Wasn't there a UK company that designed the Daily Prophet headings for the first two or three films? I thought I remembered reading an article talking about the company and that they offered "Wizard Packages" that you could buy with some of the actual fonts included.

I think you're forgetting that you're brand new here.  We're happy to have new members, but you really can't expect people to go out of their way to share with you when you've made only a few posts and you won't share first.  This gives the appearance that you're here only to get something from fellow members, and once you do, you'll disappear without ever again contributing to these boards.

To post images in any thread, you need to use a photo hosting service.  A lot of people use Photobucket, but there are other sites, as well.  Once you've uploaded your pictures to the hosting service, copy the IMG link for each image and paste them into your message.  If anyone has any problems doing this, please let me know. :)

sorry harrymad, no close ups. The articles are all either made up my me or taken from the book or film as most of the articles in the real prop don't always make sense...more so in the later DP's then the earlier ones....so no close ups really necessary as you could write your own articles ;)

Totally agree! The DP's are some of the best props. I always try to get one from every set (except COS, which was one of the really expensive incentives.  ::)).

One of the most amazing things about Mugglemum's prop replica is that you can actually read the articles! It's so much fun! I actually felt like a real wizard when my "owl" post delivered my paper.  ;) :)

Just a thought here ... it's a real pity that our boring muggle photgraphs don't move like they do in the wizarding world and maybe the way to replicate the main photo on the page would be to use a lenticular ...

A lenticular photo is a good idea--it's about as close as muggles can get to moving pictures.

I've been working on a Lockhart Magical Me book for a while (I was getting frustrated with it, so I put it away).  I bought a Lockhart chocolate frog card, removed the backing so that it's now a nice, thin lenticular, and that will go on the cover of the book.  It isn't as good as the real picture of Lockhart, but at least it has motion. :)

That was a seriously brilliant idea! Can't wait to see a picture of the Lockhart book when you are done!  :)

What software programs are you using to create your props?  You should be able to replace the color in that logo with black if you have PhotoShop or other editing software.

i have tried using illustrator cs3 and adobe photoshop cs2 but cant seem to get or edit the particular image i want to change which is the ministry of magic image and cant find any other sources for that image

In PhotoShop, go to filters--adjustments--thresholds.  That should turn the brown color to black.  You can move the slider bar to adjust the image.

As I said before you have to draw the artwork either in a software programme or by hand...then you scan it in and add it to your prop.

I think the best bet is what Mugglemum said--hand draw the symbols. You can either do them literally by hand or I would imagine a program like Paint would give you some options/tools for drawing those symbols, since they look like a combination of lines and circles.

There are some pretty clear photos of the original prop online. Try places like the Leaky Cauldron and other harry potter fan sites--they usually have photo galleries of actual screen used props that might be of some help.  :)

I could be wrong, but isn't there a sticker book out there with the Ministry "M" logo? Those pictures might be scanned online and then you could use that as your guide for the one you are doing.  :)

It can be a bit daunting doing the research, especially when there is so little out there...I'm sure you are researching properly--finding exactly what you need is kind-of like a treasure hunt, isn't it?  :)

Has anyone figured out how the flying memos are folded?  I've been working on it off and on for weeks and still haven't gotten it right.  The best picture I have is from the card and it looks like the prop is folded in at least two different ways (look at the second and fourth memos in the pic).

I was wondering if it isn't two paper airplanes somehow folded together, like one slipped in the other and they are then held together by the gold seal...I think there are probably two pieces of paper, at least.  :-\

Yes, Thomas, I'm pretty sure that is advanced origami. They have some tutorials online that look very similar to the one in the film.  :)
I like origami and made the one Draco sends to Harry in Prisoner of Azkaban.

Harrymad08--I'm sorry you already have the picture and that this one isn't new for you.  :(  I was hoping it would help.

For the printing of your Umbridge Report--if you have slightly larger/longer paper (like 11x14 or so--depending upon your printer, you might have to cut the sides width-wise so it will fit, but it won't affect the length), there should be a printer setting that will allow you to print your image on that longer size paper (I think the setting is "Legal"--could be wrong there). Your printed version will then be larger and longer than the standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper size.  :)

To get the longer paper harrymad you need to do as bitsy said....i buy A3 and trim the width.

Since they're memos, I imagine you could write the standard sorts of things you'd read in any business memo.  It would be fun to add a magical twist to it, though. ;)

Maybe a memo from one witch/wizard to another in a different department would be fun. Or one from Fudge to Umbridge making sure he is kept informed of happenings & developments at Hogwarts :)

The seal isn't gold color like it looks in the scans.  It's actually more a lime green color.

Gilderoy Lockhart's Picture.  The book I have the picture was produced on a seperate piece of paper.  The frame is part of the whole page.  The picture was glued to the main cover.

Close up pictures of the back of the book.  I apologize for the stains on the back of my book.  It was screened use, so there is paint on it probably from the cornish pixies and damage to the Florish and Blott sticker.  I watched the movie again after I purchased the book and noticed Harry uses this book to swat the cornish pixies.  I have no way of knowing if Harry used this actual book, but I like to think he did. Trust me it's not gold.  I'm the one who won that card.  The pictures I posted are scans of the actual card I made.  I was surprised when I got the card.  I thought it would be gold too.  Do you mean props or prop cards?  I own one genuine prop, the Year with the Yeti book from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  I also own a set of prop replica coins from the Socerer's Stone.  It's the set that were sold at the Warner Bros. Stores.

I haven't got prop cards. I'm also interested by coin but I don't know the difference between a replica and an original.

It's a hard cover book with a cover over it.  The Gideroy Lockhart book is just a paper cover.  The frame around Gilderoy Lockhart's picture is gold, but I think it's just gold ink.  It's printed on if that's the right term.  The spine also has a light gold lettering on it.  In fact the part of the "E" in Gilderoy is worn off.  The leather is also paper.  It was glued over the paper that makes up the rest of the cover.  The publisher's mark on the back of the book is raised gold.  As I said above the Florish and Blott sticker is actually a sticker that was place on the book.  The gold outline around Gilderoy Lockhart's name is propably also raised.  I haven't really plaid close attention to it.  The actual book is Tokens of Love by Roberta B. Etta.  It was published by Abbeville Press, copyrighted in 1990.

I'm not an expert on the Coins from Sorcerer's Stone.  I know everyone has them for sale, so I've shied away from screen used coins.  Like you said it's hard to tell one from the other.  I know mine came packaged in a sleeve which says the are genuine Socerer Coin reproductions.  They were minted by the same company that made the coins for the movie using the same dies.  So they are exactly like the ones used in the movie, they just can't claim to be screen used.

I'll post pictures, but it'll take a while.  We're in the middle of some big repairs/construction on my house.  One kid has been displaced from his room, I'm sleeping on the couch, there's dust everywhere, and construction workers are in and out of the house all day long. :P  I don't know if I'm coming or going.  Once everything is done and the house is clean again, I'll have time to look for my props -- it'll be a few weeks, though.

Thanks so much for your comments. To be honest this DP is a little of both ;) There are some bits that are true to the prop in the film and others that aren't ...and one bit that was contributed by someone else  :-X

Re. the ads...I have seen all of these at one time or another , either in the films, or from events and some even from real props sold on Ebay. They do take soooooo long to do though! My next page I do won't have any ;)

The contractors stopped work early today, so I had a chance to search for the props.  The first one is Lockhart's Holidays with Hags.  I couldn't find any prop pictures, so I made up something fun. :)  The front is scrapbook paper.  I colored in the "hags" (their skin is green, but it doesn't show up well in the scan) and added Lockhart's picture.  The inside front flap describes how Lockhart saved the man from having his liver eaten by the hags, and the inside back flap has a short Lockhart bio.

I found the Magical Me book, but it's so bad that I won't post a picture of it. :P  All of the books are actually dust jackets over hardcover journals or notebooks.  I'd like to find an acid-free laminate sheet to protect them, but nothing I've seen is big enough.

Next up is Wanderings with Werewolves, but I'm still searching for scrapbook paper with the right background.  I've also been writing my own Gilderoy Lockhart's Guide to Household Pests. :D

I no longer have a photo of the mandrake, or of the cornish pixie in a jar that I made.  Those photos vanished when our other computer died.  The mandrake was just so-so, but the pixie was really good if it's ok to brag about it.  I did 2 pixies and 1 mandrake and sold them all on ebay.  I may do more someday.

I am wondering if the 2nd word is maybe not a word but just a series of letters? Maybe thats why in all the close up shots it is blurred.
Here is a screen shot but I can't make the word out at all. After asking a few people which word they thought was best to use I went with Per Pennarum = By Feathers. This can be changed if anyone comes up with anything better :)

I checked with an online Latin dictionary and found another possibility:  Per Aligerum.  Loosely translated, it means having wings.  Maybe if someone on the forum has the Blue Ray or HD version and a large TV, he or she could watch that part of the movie and see if it shows up better.

This prop has taken ages to do...only because of that one word >:(
I have so many other words I can use but I know none are the correct one.
Whatever the word is it doesn't seem to have that many letters.
I think whoever made the prop was using  the 'par Avion' = by aeroplane,  post mark as inspiration.
So I have latin translations for Owls, Birds, wings, feathers. Then thought maybe it was 'by magic' but
did not get anywhere with that . The more I look at the more I am convinced it isn't a real word!!

Thanks Marcuss. The seal is made of clay, not wax. I tried every which way to get the right colour by mixing wax but
could not do it. So I used clay and then painted it. It is actually better then wax as wax can dry out and become brittle. The
clay will not. The letter with it is not seen in the film but thought it would be fun to include it ;)

I might have been inspired to "Per Avian" for owl mail, but that's not what they did.  ;)

I meant to say Marcuss I have a Polyjuice Potion page that I bought from a lady a couple of years ago in the U.S (juno). It is very similar to yours. Although when I received mine she had stained and aged it perfectly, it is amazing, one of my favourite replicas I own. This is a scan of it....I will take pictures later to show you. She also makes brilliant Hogwarts Tickets with gold foil ;)

I'll just repeat part of an earlier post and say that watermarking scans of your props to post on here (or anywhere else for that matter) is a very good idea - it helps to discourage the dishonest people who trawl the Web from lifting your artwork and passing it off as their own ... we do get a large number of guests pass through this forum whom we know nothing about about, so it's best to be cautious. ;)

That is darn near perfect.  The background color is more a lime green with kind of a gold look to it.  It's a weird color if you ask me.  The symbols look perfect.

Have you tried printing it on gold foil paper....the green should dull the gold down and it will just be a case of finding the right shade of green to use ;)

The 'f' is Federation ... I'm still trying to guesstimate what the second word on the top line says [edit] ... it looks like a capital 'I' so I wonder if the word is Internationale? I doesn't necessarily have to be English does it?

I think the prop dept probably provide more when and if necessary for the exhibitions...... although there would have been quite a few made of each prop to begin with wouldn't there :-\

I think I will have a go with that. I usually use Ilustrator but some of it plays about being run on Vista.....what about Inkscape...do you have vista and are there any problems??

Wow, those Harry Potter World Japan pictures are great! :o  It's nice to see close-up details of the props.  Why does the wanted poster have a huge crease and it isn't framed flat? :'(  That kills me.

I don't know if the items were screen-worn or screen-used, but the prop and costume departments make extras of everything in case items are damaged during filming.

I understand now, oh hope they put real things in the cards  :-\

Artbox states on the back of each card whether an item was screen-used or has material used to make the item.

The text on the ministerial memos are definitiv random letters. I guess the prop department was sure no one would every try to read them.
And it is possible to do the planes with one sheet of paper.

Yes I'm afraid Nienna is right lemonlemonuk  :(  I did hand draw my Owl logo and Daily Prophet heading as I could find nothing like it on font sites. It took a while but it was worth it :)

Yes if you subscribe to the clipart.com site you will find all you need on there. Whichever illustration you are looking for always remember to include Dover in the search as this narrows it down and WB always seem to use the Dover clipart for its props.  Do what I did subscribe for a week and download like a fiend ;D I think dancing men and demon /beast should do it. The dancing men need to be modified as does the lady with spider hat. An arm needs to be removed from the dancing men and replaced with a frogs leg :rofl: Boy those guys in the prop dept have a sense of humour don't they  ;) Also a couple of other little things to do, nothing major though.

Yes i did draw the Owl...you can tell mine is slightly different if you look closely...but I have since found the owl they used on clipart..it is holding a sword though so will need to be played about with!

I thought the same that the illus. are a combination of different pictures? I searched over 1700 pages over the weekend and nothing :(

Marcuss I did find some of the artwork they used for the ad that you asked me about. You know the witch & kids on the flying carpet. If you search for dover sled....you'll see it ;) Needs editing though.

Very bad things happened, the book binder refused my order. First he doesn't respond to my mails, than he said from week to week the book will be ready and then nothing  >:(
Fortunately I got my money back. So I have to find a new book binder. But the project is still actual and in my mind. As soon as I have something to show you will all see. I promise :D Please be patient.

Oh well at least you got your money back :D There are lots of other props to keep working on anyway ;)

Are you doing OWLS? I had to draw mine by hand. Some can be made up using a series of letters but is just easier to draw them :)

The symbols are also used on the Quidditch World Cup Program and on the surface of the Alethiometer (from Northern Lights). I wonder if they are found items or both movies had the same prop master.

That is AMAZING :D Where did you find all the references and clipart to do the whole book?
How many pages have you completed?

Some of them came from the charmed magazin (available online), others I found online and some I bought.
So I collect the pages and assembled them.
The book is post-bound, can hold 500 pages and I am planning to fill it all.  ;D
Now there are around 90 pages in the book but thats just the beginning.

I had this project in my mind for a long time and it was like an rollercoaster, up and down. I started then stopped and started again and so on. But I am confident to finish my work now.

The reproduction looks very good, but I always thought that the two sides should line up properly. I only thought that they appear offset because the map isn't flat.

Those items are protected by WB's copyright, so you're not supposed to sell them.  You could try listing them on eBay, but eBay can and will shut down the auction if it's noticed before your auction ends.  I have seen some people list an auction for one base card with a free "bonus" of the prop.  There was someone who made Batman replica masks and armor who did this frequently, but I don't know if eBay eventually stopped him.

Any item seen in one of the movies would be protected.  There aren't individual copyrights for every single item.  I don't know the exact law, but anything portrayed in the movie would be covered under the copyright WB has for the movie.  That's why WB has licensing agreements with various companies. 

The Noble Collection has a license with WB to produce HP props.  WB's lawyers do go after people who sell unauthorized merchandise and replicas.  If someone at The Noble Collection found out that a person or company was illegally selling replicas, it would insist that WB prevent that person from selling the items.  After all, Noble paid a great deal of money for the license and it wouldn't want competition from an entity that could sell an item at a lower price because that entity didn't have to pay the licensing fee.  And, because I think this question might come next, it doesn't matter if a licensee is not producing the exact products you want to sell.  You still need permission from WB to sell HP items.

It's up to you whether you want to take the chance to sell your home-produced items.  You might get away with it or you might get caught.  I know that when eBay discovers someone selling an unlicensed item, the company can get pretty tough with the seller.

I think the problem is using the words Harry Potter in the auction.  You are not allowed to sell unlicensed merchandise under the name Harry Potter. 
But if you don't list it with Harry Potter in the title, who will know how to find your props?  For example, if you wanted to sell a hand made Marauders Map, some people would make the auction for a "Harry Potter Marauders base card" and a "Free Magical Map" (Marauders Map in the search, get it?  ;D ).  As far as I know WB has the copyright to the name Harry Potter, but not for every single prop from the movie.  Of course your auction could still get pulled, but why not take a chance?  All they can do is tell you to stop.  So if they do, just stop, no harm done.

From what I've seen, eBay doesn't spontaneously go after sellers for listing infringements.  It happens when the copyright holder complains about the listing.  There are many people who have and still do sell replicas.

I have sold my replicas on Ebay many times before and had them removed many times aswell ;)
You will find that WB tend to patrol Ebay nearer release dates of Book or film.  They also pick up on sellers
who are stupid enough to list 20 of the same item at the same time. If Ebay repeatedly remove your listings in
a short space of time you will be suspended ::)
I have found that I have still been able to sell the odd thing here and there but I never use the word 'Prop' in the title anymore as this is picked up on straight away.

Thanks. Who counts the time  ;) It took quite a time to find resources/graphics/artists online. The Year with the yeti book was made from scans a member posted here. For the Daily Prophet I remember some people said its tabloid. But the size paper is different from movie to movie. But I think tabloid is the most accurate.

I have almost finished my set of replicas, all 16 pages of them, at 400dpi.

I print them out on 90lb watercolour stock.

I worked from a variety of sources, but I was lucky enough to get photos of some of the original props. The lettering took a long time to decifer and then match up perfectly.

Where did you find all of these?

The books I put together from scans or large jpegs of the original props then printed, and glued onto pre-existing books that were about the same size as the originals, and the candy boxes were also scanned from references and touched up in photoshop. The chocolate frog box was made by someone else...it's my favorite item and surprisingly close to the original, down to the same star patterned foil that lines the inside of it! Some designs like the pumpkin juice label and various paper props I got from members on thereplicapropforum.com where people shared files they worked on etc. I sculpted and painted the pumpkin tops and the bottles were just beer bottles from Germany.

Overall it was a fun project to experiment with printing, constructing, and weathering various items!

The Dark Arts book is blank inside but the potion book has pages that I put together from old alchemy texts/images found online...it sort of became an obsession for a few months lol, but I was really wanting to make a good replica of the book :
