: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 10, 2006, 10:58:23 PM Well that is it i am royally P#@@ed off
I sent a package you International Signed for to Japan They said it was not delivered and it was showing as undelivered through the tracking so Paypal took over £350 out of my account today the post office says it has been delivered on the 26th December and so now I am stuffed i asked for proof of delivery and they said they could not guarentee that the Japanise post office will provide it. Now call me stupid but with a service called International Signed for. I would expect that I will be able to see it was signed for but It looks like I have lost £350+ >:() >:() >:() >:() : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Roz March 10, 2006, 11:04:29 PM No way! Well the next step is to get right back onto Paypal.
I know they are useless but the guy can't keep his money AND all these big cards! Chris my phone's back in action - give me a call ;) : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 10, 2006, 11:08:54 PM well I have filed a complaint with paypal and I just got off the phone with the post office and I went spare.
She said there was nothing they could do I said well this is not closed i want to talk to a Manager so they say they will ring me back yeah like that will happen : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : LikORish-Spider March 10, 2006, 11:11:12 PM Well that is it i am royally P#@@ed off We all need to put this buyer's ebay ID on our prohibited bidder list.I sent a package you International Signed for to Japan They said it was not delivered and it was showing as undelivered through the tracking so Paypal took over £350 out of my account today the post office says it has been delivered on the 26th December and so now I am stuffed i asked for proof of delivery and they said they could not guarentee that the Japanise post office will provide it. so won't do you any good unless you know they have reregistered as something else but in all fairness I kind of knew what the post office would say : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : LikORish-Spider March 10, 2006, 11:23:30 PM Seems obvious why they are no longer registered.
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 10, 2006, 11:25:40 PM well all of their negitive feedbacks were for not paying
so why pay me damn : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : lurtz March 11, 2006, 01:02:36 AM paypal should only hold your funds in the first place while you show proof that you sent the parcel (i had to send a fax of my international signed for slip) while they decide who is telling the truth.
i had a simlar problem just after xmas paypal with drew £150 i was well stressed out with it. what to say they have not already signed for it (or recived and not signed for it thats happend to me loads of times). lucky mine was just late and buyer withdrew complaint. check to see if is held or given back to buyer. current eaby staus of there acount will help your case. dont give up and good luck : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 11, 2006, 01:57:14 AM they say tou have to prove that it arrives not that it was posted
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : tialessa March 11, 2006, 02:02:33 AM they say tou have to prove that it arrives not that it was posted Ah, but Royal Mail says they show it was delivered on 26 December. Shouldn't that be enough??? Good luck! : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 11, 2006, 02:07:11 AM depends I really hope so i got angry with the post office today and asked for proof of delivery so I can be forceful with paypal
it is not my fault that I could not prove it till now that is the post offices fault Stupid coustomer service (My postman is great so don't get me wrong it is the big people not the workers I have a problem with) : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Sharon March 11, 2006, 02:08:38 AM I am seriously starting to wonder why we pay Royal Mail for any insurance. Whatever the circumstances they seem to have an excuse as to why they won't pay out >:()
Me and Graham have also had ' experiences ' with International Signed for. Luckily everything has turned out OK in the end but why is it that Royal Mail loose all tracking of the item as soon as it leaves the UK. Surely just by the title it implies they will ensure a signature on delivery in another country and be able to provide a copy of this signature if necessary. Now I am not saying this might not be difficult ie language barriers but if it is not possible then they should not offer this service and take our money. Sorry Chris, this is not the least bit helpful to you. You have my complete sympathy and I will keep my fingers crossed that Paypal will refund the money back to you now that you can prove the item was delivered. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 11, 2006, 02:12:02 AM Thanks it is good to talk this through with people who understand the circumstances rather than argue with the post office who have their Head up their A@#E ::)
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : lurtz March 11, 2006, 02:47:48 AM one other thing i was tempted to do with expensive items is pay for
airsure (tracking) international (signfor). the trouble with pay pal they dont give you time to get info from post office has this takes months. when disonest people pick up on this i feel has i did around xmas people will do this more and more get expensive parcels, say they have not arrived, get money back then close there ebay and paypal acounts. 3 months later you get proof it was delivered, but what happens then ??. in the uk i dont understand why people dont use fast pay if i rember correct it is only 20p a transaction. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Sharon March 11, 2006, 02:49:33 AM What's Fast Pay?
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 11, 2006, 02:51:23 AM call me stupid what do you mean fast pay ?
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : lurtz March 11, 2006, 03:11:04 AM Just gone to get you the link its closed down, it was like paypal but ran throught natwest but fixed 20p fee no of this % commision, good service but not has well known has paypal. theyve cornered the market.
http://www.fastpay.com/ : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : kbmum March 11, 2006, 03:14:12 AM Maybe I'm being naive, but if your tracking/delivery confirmation states that the package was received on a particular date, you have followed PayPal guidelines and should get your money back. Did you also tell PayPal that the buyer is no longer registered for non-payment of auction wins and that it's obvious this person lied about not receiving the cards?
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : lurtz March 11, 2006, 03:17:21 AM Its a shame but the others seem to closing has well.
The British bank NatWest has posted a notice on its web site announcing the closure in July 2005 of its FastPay online person-to-person payment service. NatWest is no longer accepting new customers and existing accounts will be closed on 15 July. The FastPay service, which was launched in August 2002 using a technology developed by Magex, allows anyone with an e-mail address or mobile telephone number to send or receive payments. Customers can also deposit or withdraw money from their FastPay account using a debit card or a bank card issued in the United Kingdom. The decision to close down this service was taken by the bank because of an insufficient number of users. In October 2004 the Yahoo portal closed its PayDirect person-to-person money transfer service, developed in collaboration with HSBC. Banks are struggling to establish themselves on the person-to-person online payment market, which is very much dominated by PayPal, owned by E-Bay. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 11, 2006, 03:17:44 AM I have informed then that the buyer has received the cards and has fraudulantly claimed that they have not received the item and that the post office have confirmed that the item arrive 3 days after the claim was filed
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna March 11, 2006, 03:23:25 AM I'm keeping my fingers crossed this gets sorted out in your favour VERY quickly Chris - it's a complete shambles and like Sharon, I often wonder what do we get for the extra we pay for with the international insured service? :-\
I don't know if these people are still running but they might be worth looking at ... www.moneybookers.com So, that's Bidpay AND Fast Pay gone .... which means any international transactions we make that don't allow the use of Paypal for payments we won't be able to complete them - you're right ... Paypal has the one-to-one payments market in a stranglehold! >:( Good luck Chris and try not to punch the postie next time you see them! ;) : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 11, 2006, 03:33:08 AM I won't punch the posty - dont worry
my postman is great he looks after me he even tries to deliver the parcels twice in a day my parcelforce deliverer brings my parcels to my work as he knows i have things delivered to both places it is the customers services that is the problem : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : beckham1 March 11, 2006, 04:18:17 AM I think the only way to safeguard yourself is to not allow paypal from international bidders, I know that sounds harsh, but that is just the breaks. I haven't had a bad experience yet, but the first time it happens and I get screwed on a paypal claim I will stop accepting paypal and consider only selling to US buyers. I know that is a hard decision to make as you narrow your potential bidders down, but is 350 pounds chargeback worth the extra couple bucks here an there you can get from the international bidders.
It really is tough, but you might have to consider it as it is a considerable amount of money to lose out on and they get the cards too. >:() (:D# : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 11, 2006, 10:45:40 AM Well being in the UK almost Half my business comes from International Buyers mostly from the USA
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : beckham1 March 11, 2006, 10:52:59 AM Well maybe pick the countries like the US that seem to be less problematic. I have thought about limited my ebay selling to UK, US, Oz and Canada. I always am a little more worried when a pricey card goes to Japan or Hong Kong. Just seem like more possible problems happen outside of those countries.
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna March 11, 2006, 10:44:47 PM Well maybe pick the countries like the US that seem to be less problematic. I have thought about limited my ebay selling to UK, US, Oz and Canada. I always am a little more worried when a pricey card goes to Japan or Hong Kong. Just seem like more possible problems happen outside of those countries. Yep, we're finding that out from the mess Chris is trying to resolve at the moment! >:(I made the decision early on about where I was prepared to post to with the auctions I've got running and I hope to stick to UK, Northern USA, (not South America) Canada, Europe and Oz/NZ .... I don't really want the potential hassle of shipping anywhere in the Far East (China/Japan/Taiwan) or the Indian sub-continent if I can avoid it. I've also been extremely wary of who I buy from in SE Asia too and I'm VERY choosy who I deal with. The exceptions would be people who I know from the Forum and I'd be sympathetic if other ebay members contacted me prior to bidding to see if I'd ship to their location and I'd have chance to double-check their feedback. Unfortunately you don't have the time to do all that with the number of auctions you have running at any one time Chris and I bet you'll think twice when it comes to sending expensive cards abroad in the future won't you? :-\ I think it's a sad fact that you have to make these judgments when most of the people you deal with are honest - guess it's the minority spoiling it for everyone else isn't it? :( I'm SO sorry you've got such a mess to sort out with this transaction Chris and I hope Paypal/Post Office come through with the goods/money ASAP. ;) : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Almath March 12, 2006, 02:18:14 AM Sorry to hear about your problems and hope you resolve them satisfactorily.
I have dealt with this buyer twice. Once as netramble and then as 1234shuz his new identity. He has now closed this account with only 3 feedback. All the items he bought of me were auto cards. The second transaction was over £80 for three cards. I sent him an invoice suggesting he took insurance. He replied in a very blunt manner. He stated he didn't want insurance as he didn't want to pay import duties and as such I shouldn't put more than $50 on the customs form. (Asking me to break the law). Also that I shouldn't include any form of paperwork in with the cards for instance ebay packing slip. I guess so that if customs opened there would be no way of discerning the value. I just sent the cards as I usually do and made sure I got a certificate of postage. It sounds like I may have had a lucky escape. Looking at his feedabck he's had 19 negs in one year. 4 or 5 for Darren at the Collectorzone. Just found the message from him on my Paypal account: Hello, This is Shuji. I do not want to pay IMPORT TAX !!! Please check below ====NOTICE==== #1 Do NOT send receipt, invoice, sales slip of credit card or other documents ( ex, copy of ebay auction page, copy of our mail, etc) with our item!! #2 Do NOT send items with your price tags!! #3 PLEASE DECLARE AS $50.00 GOOD(S), IF YOU HAVE TO DECLARE FOR INT'L SHIPPING. #4 Please care this items, Protect from DAMAGE !! Thanks for your cooperation. Anyway his business is Movie Master Japan if he crops up again on ebay. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna March 12, 2006, 02:26:51 AM Crickey!! :o :o :o
You had a lucky escape alright! :o Thanks for the info on his ebay ID's and his Japanese business - I think blocking this guy from bidding on ANY of our auctions would be a sensible thing if we can do it don't you? That's a big 'IF' I know .... :-\ : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 15, 2006, 01:54:53 PM Ok how about this I woke up this morning to find £349.99 in my account with no explanation Paypal has now refunded the amount less their fees you never know the fees might even be refunded later it does sometimes happen.
I would have thought an explanation would have been something not even an email Not that I am complaining a great result ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Looking back at the history of my claim it a says that the claim was denied on 2nd Feb but only today funds were released what is up with that. Now, the 'best' (or in other words most expensive) system of posting outside the UK doesn't get a signature (airsure) - do we all shun that and go for International Signed for like Chris did and then go through this purgatory if anything goes wrong?? It's not an easy one to call. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : tialessa March 16, 2006, 12:39:40 AM Sometimes I have to sign for Airsure and sometimes I don't...
Dunno if that helps at all... : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : HPfamily March 16, 2006, 12:50:21 AM YEAH CHRIS!!!
What an excellent surprise to you this morning!! ;D Glad it worked out! 8) : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : gimli March 16, 2006, 01:00:31 AM I have to say i was so releaved i went out and spent it ;D

Is there a guarantee with Airsure? Does it have tracking? : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Roz March 16, 2006, 02:02:30 AM Yes, it's trackable and insured, but is tracked by barcode and no signature is obtained on delivery... well I don't think so anyway - the last 2 parcels I sent you - did you have to sign for them?
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : HPfamily March 16, 2006, 02:05:54 AM Nope!
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna March 16, 2006, 04:48:50 AM That's brilliant news Chris and I'm glad you've removed the dosh from your account to somewhere safer ... ;) ;D ;D ;D
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : ferdinand_the_yak March 16, 2006, 04:52:00 AM It's great when Paypal gets it right and the fraudulent buyer/seller gets zilch 8) I'm nervous as I have a pricey card somewhere between here and the US - its insured but after this fiasco, who knows wether that means anything? I'll definitely be relieved when it arrives!
I'm definitely going to keep an eye out on who bids on my auctions in future! : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Roz March 16, 2006, 06:47:07 PM did you have to sign for them? Nope The signed for version is like 40p (60-70 cents) cheaper, there's not much in it but I get the impression that the Airsure is a speedier service so I usually use it :-\ : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : sketchqueen March 18, 2006, 01:39:18 AM I need to send 3 parcels overseas, all insured and trackable - two to the UK and one to France. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : tialessa March 18, 2006, 02:41:16 AM I need to send 3 parcels overseas, all insured and trackable - two to the UK and one to France. Anyone in the US have any advice? One of my UK packages is a replacment for a replacement for a replacement so I'm just the wee bit nervous about that one in particular. Thanks all! I'd be interested in the answer as well. US Registered AirMail does diddly as far as tracking & the insurance value is laughable - $44.86 - (though you can purchase a Return Receipt which I've never done)... Global Priority has tracking numbers on it, but they can't be tracked overseas... ::)The two international shipping options *that I know of* that can be tracked are: Global Express Guaranteed (smallest dimensions to use this service are 12" long x9" wide x1" high ) for a one pound package (less than one pound is rounded up to one pound) is $33.75 for a document & $46.50 for non-document. Global Express Mail for a 5 ounce package is $21.00 AirMail Parcel Post can be insured - the base cost is $16.75 then you pay extra for the insurance amount (starts at $1.95). : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : kbmum March 18, 2006, 02:54:17 AM I've looked into this as well, and the only options I found were the ones Lessa noted. :-\
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : tialessa March 18, 2006, 03:10:25 AM I've looked into this as well, and the only options I found were the ones Lessa noted. :-\ GRRRRRRRRR The UK's Royal Mail & Oz's Australia Post (and I believe Canada Post) all have options where you can have registered mail that's trackable and/or insured. Thus the reason I only ship AirMail & Global Priority Mail, but I'm stuck if it doesn't make it >:() >:() : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : sketchqueen March 18, 2006, 04:55:37 AM Yah this is the one that cracks me up :
Global Priority has tracking numbers on it, but they can't be tracked overseas... Why do they make GLOBAL priority trackable, but then tell you it can't be tracked once it leaves the country? I used to use Global Priority until my packages all started disappearing and all I ever got was "Your package has left JFK Airport at ....." like, ok, so where is it NOW? I have a new postmaster who seems intelligent, so I guess I'll go bug him on Monday to get these out. It's very stressful - and unfortunately, I can never say "Sorry, you're overseas, I'm not shipping to you" *lol* I think I'd have people flying over to take a swing at me :) : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna March 18, 2006, 05:12:11 AM I've looked into this as well, and the only options I found were the ones Lessa noted. :-\ GRRRRRRRRR The UK's Royal Mail & Oz's Australia Post (and I believe Canada Post) all have options where you can have registered mail that's trackable and/or insured. Thus the reason I only ship AirMail & Global Priority Mail, but I'm stuck if it doesn't make it >:() >:() I eventually thought to use the USPS website and put the tracking number in there and lo and behold ... my package showed up as having been delivered several days before!! :o It was very frustrating and really annoying, but I gather from what my postie has told me in the past, (he's a helpful chap and cheerful with it, bless him!) there is no reciprocal agreement between the UK and the US to get the signatures - there used to be once upon a time but hasn't been for a while now ... so my next question is - what the hell are we paying the extra fees for when there's no compulsion to get these signatures?! I know it's no consolation, but it IS nice to know it's not just the postal service in the UK which is being awkward over this ... :-\ : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : sketchqueen March 18, 2006, 05:19:06 AM "I know it's no consolation, but it IS nice to know it's not just the postal service in the UK which is being awkward over this ... Yes, it seems to be a problem worldwide - I *never* thought to use the other countries websites to check delivery status though ... I wonder if it works both ways ... : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Bryanjs14 March 18, 2006, 05:20:22 AM I do not know if this has been mentioned or not, But you CAN ship USPS Registered Airmail which is trackable and requires a signature upon delivery.
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna March 18, 2006, 05:26:19 AM Thanks for the info Bryan. ;)
Joanna ... it's worth a try if you have the tracking number and the date on which you posted your item. :) : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : kbmum March 18, 2006, 06:00:22 AM I do not know if this has been mentioned or not, But you CAN ship USPS Registered Airmail which is trackable and requires a signature upon delivery. The only problem is that, as Joanna mentioned, the max insurance coverage is $44.86. If it were possible to add more insurance, it would be a good option for those higher value packages. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : tialessa March 18, 2006, 06:05:46 AM May I point out that I have NEVER been able to track a USPS Registered AirMail parcel...
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : kbmum March 18, 2006, 06:17:44 AM I looked at the USPS site about Registered Airmail. This isn't good:
Effective January 2006 the addressee is the payee on claims for registered letter-post items delivered in damaged condition or with contents missing, if addressee accepts delivery of the item. If addressee waives their right to payment, in writing, or the item is returned to sender, the sender then is eligible to file a claim. USPS will pay the $44.86 to the recipient and not the sender. Talk about the potential for abuse -- a buyer can file a claim with USPS, then go to PayPal and file a claim against the seller, too. :-\ : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Almath March 18, 2006, 11:35:19 PM Just a head up folks. Netramble is back. His new id is
'makethe$' He re-registered on 3rd March. Has a feedback of 6. He's just won a George Lazenby auto card off of me. So I'm hoping there will be no problems. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna March 19, 2006, 04:15:04 AM Crickey!! Have you seen what he's bought so far!! : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Almath April 13, 2006, 02:33:07 AM Just for your info folks. Netramble's latest account 'makethe$' is no longer registered on Ebay.
I had problems getting the money out of him for his last auction. I gave ten days to pay on my auction. On day 11 I emailed him to ask him to pay or I'd issue a non paying bidder alert. I got a reply saying he had overspent on his credit card and would pay me on April 1st! Do they do April 1st in Japan? Anyway April 2nd came round no payment. Sent email and eventually got payment 3rd April (6 days late, 16 days after the auction finished). As with last time he made demands on not declaring the value of the goods for customs. Ive filled in full value and made sure I got a certificate of postage. He's since emailed me saying his accounts suspended and he doesn't know why. I think he thinks I reported him. I didn't. Maybe someone else has. Anyway watch out for any bids from Japan from a guy called Shuji. He seems particularly fond of James Bond items. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna April 13, 2006, 02:38:29 AM Glad you got your money out of this guy, even if it was late! :-\

I provided proof!! >:() >:() : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : tialessa April 13, 2006, 04:33:51 AM Happened to me too... had positive feedback & delivery confirmation, BUT I had sent to an unconfirmed address... Apparently that's all they need to side with the buyer *sigh* >:()
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna April 13, 2006, 04:43:43 AM O bum! >:(
I was only thinking that it would be better to have any money in your Paypal account transferred to your own bank account, rather than Paypal freezing whatever you had in your Paypal account till they got it sorted that's all. :-\ Jackie - I'm not surprised you're hopping mad about that chargeback especially after providing proof the card had been sent and received and feedback left for it - I'd be furious!! >:() We're back to the same thing again aren't we - the unconfirmed address situation? I've just had a seller quiz me about my home address and whether it's confirmed or not cos they wouldn't accept payment through Paypal unless it was and I do understand why they were being so particular about wanting to know. I explained to him that as far as I knew Paypal will only confirm US addresses ... non-US addresses aren't covered but ... because I've received payments AND have a credit card on file with my Paypal account, my address shows on my Paypal account as being confirmed. Is this something new Paypal have introduced in response to this or have they been confirming non-US addresses for some time does anyone know? : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Roz April 13, 2006, 05:15:29 AM I don't think so Jules, my parents address has been confirmed on my paypal account for years... all my bank statements/credit card statements go there, but I don't live there. Thankfully they are always happy to receive parcels for me if sellers won't post to unconfirmed addresses. ;D it just delays how long it takes me to get the item :(
: Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna April 13, 2006, 06:39:27 AM oh well, that's blown that theory out the water! ::) ;)
Parents are useful things to have aren't they!?! :P ;D : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : tialessa April 13, 2006, 09:34:10 PM We're back to the same thing again aren't we - the unconfirmed address situation? The majority of International addresses show up as unconfirmed with paypal. I don't even verify that now on international bidders.I've just had a seller quiz me about my home address and whether it's confirmed or not cos they wouldn't accept payment through Paypal unless it was and I do understand why they were being so particular about wanting to know. I explained to him that as far as I knew Paypal will only confirm US addresses ... non-US addresses aren't covered but ... because I've received payments AND have a credit card on file with my Paypal account, my address shows on my Paypal account as being confirmed. I'm only nitpicky about that issue with US people. It's my policy that if they're a US bidder and they don't have a confirmed address with paypal, then they have to send a money order as payment. Thanks to that last LOVELY chargeback on my account, I have to be firm about the policy... I only bend the rules if it's someone I know off lists or boards, but most US folks have a confirmed address so it's normally a moot point. : Re: Postal insurance sucks and so does paypal : Nienna April 13, 2006, 10:51:52 PM That's a good point re: confirmed US addreses and I don't think you're being unreasonable wanting MO payments from buyers whose addresses show as unconfirmed.
A pity you have to enforce your payment policy by finding out the hard way though ... :-\ Is it me or are more buyers using this chargeback facility than before? :( |
