: Through The Trap Door...
: EmmasOneandOnly June 17, 2005, 10:54:33 AM
I wanted to start a thread about what ever one will be doing when they get their copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I name is Through The Trap Door becuase when we finally do get it it will be like us finally raching are destination and jumping through the trap door (getting the book and taking it where ever) and starting are big task of reading it (the charms and spells after the trap door is this). Kind of stupid but I thought it kind of gave it a "Magic" touch ;)

Oh, and if I've missed something let me now and I'll motify or delete :)

Oh, definitely getting home ASAP I get it from the store (Midnight release in UK is 9am here), so I'll pick up my copy from the store, get another copy to whack all the screaming kids out of my way (), go home and lock myself in my room all day. With a nice cup of tea of course. I like to be surrounded by silence when reading... it lets me drift off into whatever world the book decides to take me to :)

Food? Friends? Social life? Who needs them? ;D

I agree, I couldnt possibly read it with all those screaming fans around. I like to just sit there in my room, total silence just reading. I read aloud so I always stay shut up in my room till my eyes start to hurt or its five in the morning ;) .

EXACTLY!!!  >:D

Well I will be doing the same as Ferdinand, taking it home and locking myself in my room with a cuppa (and maybe some biccies) Aussies, where are u buying your books from? I havent even pre-ordered mine yet cause I have no clue where to go to...I was hoping there would be some sort of party thing going on in Melb for the release, but havent heard of anything!

I reserved mine at the mall as a special offer a month ago. Suncoast had the offer of reserve it for 5 dollars get five dollars off the purchase price. So I bit ;D

No idea about any parties Trey, not in Syd anyways, although they might release some more info a bit closer to July 16 if they are planning anything. Not sure whether you want to be partying at 9am in the morning though ;) well except for the hyperactive under 12 kiddies... thus why I need an extra copy of the book to hit them with - hurrah for hardcover releases >:D

I didn't pre-order OoTP, I just picked it up the morning it was released form Angus and Robertson - they had plenty of copies when I went in at 9:30. Don't worry - I am sure you will not miss out, I think bookstores have learned to accomodate the Potter release buying frenzies by now ;)

Do you Aussies have are cover? You know, the GrandPre art?

: Re: Through The Trap Door...
: ferdinand_the_yak June 17, 2005, 11:20:40 AM
We've got the International edition with the Dumbledore and Harry surrounded by fire pic... you know you guys are *special* and are the only ones that get the GrandPre illustrations and covers! ;D

For the first time, I prefer the US cover to the International one :(

I like the international but I guess you get sick of seeing the same thing for the past ten years :P

I also have to read in total silence. Im going to get my copy from Big W as rumor is they're going to have it for around $24.00AU hardback. And they open at 8:30am so i can go down nice and early, get my copy and start reading as soon as Im home. that is of course if Im not working as its a Saturday. Wondering if it's worth asking for the day off in advance.  ;)

I'll be home, waiting for it to be delivered.  Then I'll have to fend off the kids so I can sit down and start reading. :)

Mine will also be delivered to me the day of release.  I got it from Amazon.  As soon as I get it, I am reading the first chapter out loud so my husband can hear it too, and then I will be reading before work, and him after work.  I will need to stay away from this forum, as it will take a couple weeks for us to go through it.  I know, crazy right?  But I like to stretch it out as long as I can.

As for the cover, a good friend of mine (she used to work with me, but got a new job) and her new job is a Press that is actually printing the US covers!!!  How neat is that!!  It is walking distance from my husbands job too.

My cunning plan involves going straight to bed when I get in from work, having pre-arranged for my Dad to go to Tescos (or big bro) at Midnight, then race back home and wake me up.  I then read till I have finished  ;D

Pure heaven  0:)

It ususally takes me a week to read one of the books but I'll still be on just not durring the day ;D That is cool thet there printing the cover near you I would hate to live next to the factory printing the book because what would happenif you walked down the side walk next to it :o

: Re: Through The Trap Door...

Do you know how hard it is for me not to ask my firend for a copy of the cover?  But I don't want to get her in trouble.  Ater all, she only worked there for a couple months now.

: Re: Through The Trap Door...
: Trey June 26, 2005, 05:37:31 PM
I have pre-ordered mine now, at my local Collins bookstore...the guy said to me, "its released at 9:01am but I would wait a couple of hours cause there will be a mad rush with all those kids" and I said "mate i will be here before anyone else arrives" he laughed at me, I really think he thought I was joking, but I wasnt of course  ;)

I also have to read in total silence. Im going to get my copy from Big W as rumor is they're going to have it for around $24.00AU hardback. And they open at 8:30am so i can go down nice and early, get my copy and start reading as soon as Im home.

Im sure big w will have it for cheaper but they wont release it before the release time, also you cant really guarantee that they will have a copy if u dont pre-order so thats why I went for the bookstore instead. I worked at bigw for two years and even though I know they will be cheaper, I know that you cant guarantee yourself a copy so thats why I didnt go with them. They will have the boxes out the back and will only bring them out at 9am, they wont have them on display at 8:30, you will be waiting in the line and they will just be handing them out from the box at 9.

Thanks for the info Trey. Looks like I may have to order from Dymocks anyway as I found out I have to work on that Saturday the book is released so if I pre order my copy at least I can go and pick it up in the shopping complex when I finish in the afternoon and not have to worry about whether or not I'll get one even if it is for the sake of saving a measly $5.00.  :)

: Re: Through The Trap Door...
: Trey June 26, 2005, 06:01:09 PM
yea good idea cause if you left it until the afternoon, who knows, you would have even less of a chance  ::)

Well im really looking forward to the release  ;D cant wait!!!!

: Re: Through The Trap Door...
: ArwenEvenstar June 26, 2005, 06:16:43 PM
Yep only 19 days to go according to my counter from Mugglenet. I cant wait for the release either. Id better get cracking on reading OotP again as I just finished the previous 4 and to be honest I cant remember all that much from Order. Ive only ever read it once and the others twice in total. Got 19 days to read it in..gonna be a challenge.  ;)

I'll be reading mine at home! ;D
All three of us have now read the books and all three of want copies of HBP ... nothing will get done round the house (like it does now anyway!) and we might remember to eat, drink and take potty breaks, but I predict three people in three different rooms quietly reading .... sounds brill to me!! ;D
