Thanks for the breakdowns.  It really looks great per box.  If I have this right, only 4 boxes out of your 2 cases had only 1 auto/prop/costume/filmcard.  All the others had 2.  That gives me great hope.  Thanks! ;D

4 of the rare cards (100-140), that's impressive. Normally every card of them will appear all 6-8 cases. And you've got all 4 in 2 cases. Wow!   :)

Okay, that's starting to show some statistics. If they hold up, it looks like the film cels are coming in at 3/case and the props, autos, and costumes at a close simulation to almost 5/case. That would put insertion ratios at approximately 1:80 packs for the cels and 1:48 packs for each of the others.

The sum of all of the prop card numbered-to numbers is an even 5000. Costumes add up to 5560, with the Slytherin costumes from Roz's sell sheet still unspotted. Let's assume that one exists and is numbered to 440.

  Film Cards 3573 ... if 3/case for 800 cases = 2400 in packs ... 67%
  Costumes  6000 ... if 5/case for 800 cases = 4000 in packs ... 67%
  Prop Cards 5000 ... if 5/case for 800 cases = 4000 in packs ... 80%

We'll see if there are slightly more costumes than prop cards, eventually. But I think we have enough data to start tracking autograph pulls and estimate the total numbers for each.  8)

I was definitely surprised to pull two autos!  But my next box just has to have a prop...and a filmcard... ::)  I'll be happy to have a little bit of everything for this set. :)

They were in different packs, one on the left side and one on the right.  I thought I was going to get a box with only one auto, and then Neville showed up in the last pack. :)

Do any of the Hagrid shirts have two colors?  My swatch is mostly rust colored, but there's a thick brown thread that shows through in two small spots.

The two shirts I pulled both are solid rust colored.  Maybe you have a variant. ;)  ;D

THOUGHTS

All boxes with Props/Film Cells were on the left side of the case.  All Auto/Costume boxes were on the right.  Each box contained five Foil Cards.  One box I collated had exactly two base sets with no extras.  Artbox is like the kid who got caught being bad.  They're now on their best behavior.   :D

My one complaint is that some cards are just too big.  I like to store my cards in their respective albums.  When I saw the "Fluffy" card I started looking around for a glass to sit on it.  It's like a coaster.  When I held it out to a friend of mine he said, "Wow!  Is that a whole stack of cards?"  No, just one, and it's too big.  It's almost like Artbox is saying, "See what we can do..."  My one bit of advise for them would be to stop making cards this big.  How are we supposed to store them?  Take a look at Inkworks' Pieceworks cards.  They've got the right idea.  No more coasters please.

Overall, a good comeback after the POAU fiasco.  I plan on buying two more cases, but I'm still miffed about the "giant" Props and Costumes.

Thank you, Jeff Allender, Master of Checklists.  Love to get your take on Artbox's "progress".

I don't know if my take means much, but it's looked to me like Artbox has been watching carefully. When they got the Potter franchise they could see the huge popularity of the LOTR sets by Topps, and it wasn't a mistake that they patterned a good part of the design on that phenomenon. I was telling myself that HP had the same sort of crossover potential as LOTR, and on that fact alone I figured it would be hot enough to spring for more than a case for myself. And that thought was confirmed when they even hired Gary Gerani to design and write the set. When POA was successful beyond their dreams, they overdid it for POAU, but there wasn't quite time enough for them to see that Topps too had overestimated the demand for ROTK and ROTKU and needed to change directions for Trilogy.

POAU was a much bigger endeavour than they had ever attempted. They had to find additional printing and packaging job-shops, and there were problems with collation and even quality in a few instances. But with TSS, they seem to have noticed all of the earlier issues and haven't repeated "mistakes". So it looks to me like they are entitled to make some reasoned (but unsuccessful) marketing decisions, come up with a dud or two from time to time, but they adapt quickly for the next releases. Now they need some help with their website. :-\

Okay, I'll add a bit of "odds" info. Data are in on only 11.8 cases, and it will be better when gimli makes a dent in his supply, but I'm tracking the frequencies of autos so that we can get an estimate of their numbers. So far I see 60 autos from 118 boxes, distributed as:
   8 - Hart
   7 - Flitwick, Lewis
   6 - Rawlins, Somerville
   4 - Youngblood
   3 - Bank Teller, Enoch, Fearon, Herdman, Murray, Phillips
   2 - Cleese, Hurt

I'm guessing the groupings are something like 750, 300, and 150 each. A bit early to make indelible conclusions, though!

All in all im pretty happy with my boxes...1 auto, 1 film card, 2props, 1 costume!! 5 inserts in total. I am happiest with the invitation letter and nevilles pj costume!!  ;D

I pulled a 4 Privet Drive letter number 8. With the right hand side of the Hogwarts Crest on.

I have been thoroughly scolded for opening box number one, apparently I might have ruined someone's dreams of owning it sealed, but transporting single boxes around the world only ends up with them in battered ruins if you ask me... it's far better off opened and a Privet drive card in my collection :D

If I had seen the number before I tore off the wrapping I would have put it to a vote on here what to do :)

I envy all of you who pulled some great cards!!  I still have two boxes to go, but I don't have that sort of luck.  Didn't with the past sets either, but I seem to be happy with anything, as long as it is not a dud box!!!

I did have a dud box in my first case, (true to form for Roz) but it was such an excellent case it didn't matter in the least bit, but if you are buying on a box scale it can be a case of either feast of famine from my experience  :-\

I am curious when you say a dud box, are we talking total dud box?  I had 5 film cells in one case (one box only had a film cell no auto or prop/costume)  4 props, 5 costumes, and 4 autos.  So overall there were 18 inserts, but I certainly didn't need 5 film cells instead of 3 :-\  Would have preferred to get the other prop and auto.

I think by Dud box that she means one box had no special inserts in it at all.  But she did say the case was worth it, and made up for it.  Would just suck if you ordered only a box or two and got the one with nothing in it.

Dud as in - no prop, no costume, no auto and no film card, I think it had a box topper and foils as normal, but that's not anything to write home... or indeed to write to the forum about!

I had a box with two box toppers  :P  You will never top that. :rofl:

I was assuming you meant nothing in the dud box, (just thought I would ask) but I would also consider one with only a film cell card a dud, but that may be just me.

Well I wouldn't be over the moon with a box with just a film cell in, but at least it's SOMETHING :)

Im just about to go and crack a box open. My parents are getting really excited and reckon I should be wearing cotton gloves when I pull a rare card so I dont contaminate the card with oils...very odd.  :rofl:

hehe only problem is I dont have any cotton gloves  :P I suppose it will be ok if I just touch the edges of the card. i think Im letting myself get too finicky with this stuff huh?  ;)

haha a bit, but you just have to remember to be careful, dont put a big thumb print right in the middle by shuffling through them, and dont bend any either  :o that would not be good. I was parannoid when opening my first box too but then you get used to it after a while! ::)

Thanks to both of you.  My husband opened this box, which had the duplicate Fluffy in it, but when he pulled the auto, he played it off like it was nothing big, until I figured it out.  And then, I was jumping up and down, and up and down!!  I was thrileed.  Yes, i would have enjoyed a SS card, or Chocolate frog, as well, as I thought I might have better chances getting one of them over the big autos, especially with just 4 boxes.  But here I am.  Shocked over the whole thing.

Do we feel that Hurt and Cleese have about the same amount of autos signed?  Are they definitely the rarest?  I would like Cleese too, but would need to get another box and hope to pull him now as well.

And i?  4 cases, no Hurt, no Cleese.  :'(

Of course, things could be concentrated because 90% of the breakdowns have been from here. It's only 228 autos out of maybe 5600. The Cleese and Hurt autos are sure bringing in the biggest bucks in completed auctions. But if the trends hold up, the scarcest ones seem to have from 200 to 300 signed.

What about the ones sold on ebay, although we don't know if the same ones get resold as they aren't numbered  :-\

I tried tallying auctions for POA and POAU and found it was okay for the most common but widely off the mark with the scarcest, for numbered costumes and props. The "stats" get dicey when the sellers hold some of the scarcer cards for off-auction sale. And like you said, it gets really tricky when the bargains are put up for sale again. We're up to about 6% of the boxes from breakdown reports, and that's starting to give us some hints.  Like, by now we can say that Lily is the tougher pull for people who want both of Harry's parents. ...

The Cleese card is interesting to watch, because he also signed for the Avengers 2 set that just came out.

wow, only 200-300.  Interesting.  I think my Hurt auto has become my favorite card.

That case seems to be rich with Wand boxes, I have had a wand box, a restricted section library book and a film card from 2 boxes also out of that case!

Three more boxes have been posted out to people so I will wait and see what they got out of them :D

Just wandered outside and found 3 parcels behind the garage door, looking a bit worse for wear and soaking wet from all the rain. (Its been pouring here recently). Opened them to find 46 screwdowns and my HP binder from Tom and he also threw in some Ultra Pro team bags for me.  ;D
Looks like I can FINALLY open my case!  :D Right after Ive finished my History assignment of course.  ;) By the by, does anyone know if its ok to store cards thicker than 120pt in team bags?

The 3 boxes I opened this morning were my rewards.  I got to open 1 boxes for finally sorting all of my base sets from the 4 cases I opened last month.  The other 2 boxes were my reward for re-entering auctions back into the Price Guide.  The Wizard Candy card was in the 3rd box, in the next to the last pack I opened. ;D

So really nothing out of the ordinary which Im a little disheartened about but Ive still got 2 boxes to go. Just a couple of Q's...when I put my 50pt cards in the screwdowns no matter how hard I try the lid wont sit flat. Is it because the screw isnt straight? Also is it usual to find auto cards with fingerprints on them as I knew they couldnt be mine because I was htumbing through them wearng cotton gloves.  ???

I have some creases in my Wizard Candy swatches.  I don't think it de-values the card since the props were supposed to have been used in the movie, so in reality, the swatches shouldn't be perfect.


My cards fit tightly in the 50 pt screw-down cases also.  The next larger size screw-down case is a Pro-Mold 80 pt one, Ultra-Pro 100 pt one or a BCW 120 pt one.  I only have BCW cases so the 120 case is way too big for my cards, so I put them in the 50 pt ones even though they fit snugly. :-\

Has anyone noticed the base card with Harry and his mum on it (I think its called a Mothers love) the mobile behind them has got owls on, bless ;D. It makes you realise how much is put in to films for seconds that you don't even notice. I sometimes feel bad for the props guys  :-\

The mobile would have made a great prop card!  I'm still ticked off that Artbox didn't make a Harry baby blanket card...and a Quirrell turban...and a Sirius prison costume (for POA).  So many missed opportunities. ::)

I mean how much work would have gone into the mobile for a few seconds? Harry's blanket would have been great (I get a little teary when I see the picture of Dumbley leaving Harry and privet drive). I think the trouble with the SS stuff is the time in between things could have been sold, lost, taken or thrown away. Sirius stuff would have been good.

Right latest box came today, hopefully the last, I am hdeading towards a case ::) not sure what happened to the 'just one box'.

My last box brought it up to seven only three away from a case worth and I still haven't seen a film card  :-\

Don't know where to put this question, but does anyone know if there are both retail and hobby editions of the 9 chase cards for SS?  I know they have both Hobby and Retail for PoA and PoAU, but I've never seen the retail ones for SS.

Boy Darthmactor, you really had some bad luck with those boxes (too may duplicates). :(  Did you get all of the boxes from the same seller at the same time?

Actually, surprisingly, no, each was bought from a different seller over a period of a couple of weeks. I guess my luck is just really starting to go sour.  :'(

You'd actually have a better chance of getting different cards if you would have gotten the boxes from the same seller at the same time.  Then the boxes most likely would have been pulled from the same case and the cases are pretty good about having a variety of cards.

Yeah, I know, but being a recent ex-u.s. Marine and working at a video store until I go back to college, I can only afford x-amount at any one time, so it usually is a box every couple of weeks I may be able to treat myself with. Oh well, 'tis life.  :P

Well, more disliked then hate, I guess I should say, as while the notion is a true one, it just makes it difficult to find the right term (though, I suppose, since I'm still in the I.R.R. for another two years, I'm still a Marine by any definition, just not active duty anymore  :P).

Pretty nice case, especially with the Gringotts letter...without it, it would have just been an average breakdown  :P

Yeah, it's the only "rare" prop card I pulled from this set, unfortunately it's a blank swatch. :P  This was the only case I opened that had a McG case topper too and one of the wand boxes is pretty cool looking.

That Wand Box is nice. I have one like it, too. Only one out of my 14 was like that.
I keep my collection on an Excel spreadsheet so I can look things up quickly.

Yes Jules, after I started feeling better, I had to open some boxes. ;)

The boxes of this case were opened over a two-week period, so half of the inserts were already sold last week on eBay, and the final ones are listed now (ending on Monday the 7th).

You opened them over a two-week period ... I doubt I could've made the opening spin out quite that long, more an opening-frenzy I think! :rofl:

lol yeah what is it for a prescription these days? £6.90 last time I remember picking up my Dad's pills, I think £6,90 for a box of cards sounds like a fair cop - cures depression and the only side effect is a slight case of insanity ;)

Yeah, I was pretty happy.  The only thing I wanted more was Harry's Hogwart's letter/shopping list of my wants list.  I would have been over the moon if that had happened.

Wow Sara that was a great pull on the auto.  That is rare.  I only had one in all my SS boxes.

I opened one of my Sorcerer's Stone boxes last weekend and was happy to find 25 packs in it. But after I pulled out all the card I was really frustrated - there werde only 5 Chase Cards and the Box Topper  >:()

Did this happened to anyone else, too?

Yes, I always buy sealed boxes. That's why I was expecting at least one special card...

It seems like we hear about maybe two or three "dud" boxes for every release. I haven't had one, but somebody else might have some experience on whether Artbox will do something for you. ...

It can't hurt to send a nicely-worded email to Artbox customer service and see if they'll help you. :)  There were a great many dud boxes for POAU and so many people complained that Artbox worked to rectify the problem.  It's one area that the company greatly improved, since reports of dud boxes for all of the subsequent sets have been fairly rare. 

Ok i would like to thank Jonh for sending me a box of these :D
so the box arrived today and i kept saying to myself they are for xmas but i said id open one pack,
and it wasn't to hard to figure out which pack to open cause it was so chunky,
i opened it and got the wand box prop :)
but anyways i was hoping if somebody could help me with letting me know if its a variant or not?
on the right side it has a very pale purple kind of colour with a black design on it and on the left side it has a kind of burgundy?
any help is appreciated :D

I would definitely say it is a variant :D I believe any with designs or multiple colors were variants.  Mine is just solid green with a crease going through it. AND, I would venture to tell you that there is probably a costume in that box too ;)

my self control for these amazing cards is very bad so i just opened them up but no other insert card :(
but props are my favourite to collect and if i was told to pick a box with a costume and auto or a box with just a prop i would pick the prop so im still very happy :D

Sorry to hear there was not another insert. It seems that there were 2 boxes in each case with just one insert in this set (if compiled properly....I believe). With that said, your one insert was a VERY good one. You got a variant!!!!!  :D I agree, the props are my favorites as well, but I have also started to get in to the autos now too.

Yea i do like the autos aswel.
The one reason why costumes are not my favourites is that its the same characters over again but with the props they change every film.
To me the sorcerers stone had one of the best prop ranges along with the chamber of secrets.
Unfortunatly i have not got a box of the chamber of secrets yet but hopefully soon :)

That's a good card!  I'd suggest going back through all of your base cards, looking at the fronts and backs.  Sometimes, two cards will stick together.  More than one person on this forum thought he or she had a one-insert box, but later discovered that the front of an auto was stuck to the back of a base card.

Ok after my first box of these i got hooked to this set and im getting another 2 boxes thanks to John again and well its obvious which ones im looking for SORCERERS STONE PROP or CHOCOLATE FROG PROP but i highly doubt ot il get any og them but who knows :)
