So long? It's been a decade now since they did anything apart from Cracking Contraptions (which was an exercise done to train up people for this film).

Only a few more months to go

Did anyone else here buy the "Cracking Contraptions" DVD? It was a series of 10 animations that were done by the team who are making the movie as a "warm up" - part of their training basically, and they were overseen by Nick Park as usual - it's cracking fun - especially "the edam has landed"

Well I was just introduced to the world of Wallace & Gromit by Mark & Roz!   :)  I am now a registered fan and am looking forward to this new project!  I love everything about Wallace & Gromit from the storyline, animation, to the looks the characters give in the punchline moments especially Gromit - priceless!!   8)

 

It's about time   ::) the DVDs must have been in your household for at least 24 hours before you watched them - shocking ;) no no I know I'm just pulling your leg, you are so lucky to have been able to see all the W&G things at once :) And only 5 and a half months to the movie too :)


Gromit says absoloutely nothing * but he conveys so much :) It really is amazing how much that they manage to convey to us through the angle of his brow, the position of his ears, and of course more often than not he disappears behind a newspaper rolling his eyes :)

Sheer genius in my opinion.

Ed if you feel totally lost you might want to track down the Chicken Run film at your video rental store (it's been out a while now so it should be cheap)

It's not Wallace and Gromit but it's done by the 2 main directors (Nick Park and Peter Lord)

 It's the only full length movie these guys have done so far but I love it - and I think you will love it - one of the characters is an RAF chicken (just don't question it Ed), and the cleverest chicken in the "farm" is a Scot (so you'll have to listen hard to understand what she's saying ;)) - and one of the star voices you will recognise is Mel Gibson, he has the main character - and is a Yank (a road island red) too. I think you will probably REALLY enjoy it especially with the RAF references and flying... well I can't say too much without giving everything away. Let me know if you can't find the Chicken Run at your video store and I'll see what I can do.

One thing you will notice is that the animation of the Chicken Run is slightly cleaner looking than the trailer looks for Wallace and Gromit. (I am sure you noticed some fingerprints left on Wallace and Gromit in the earlly episodes) I think they have gone back to a slightly grungy look (as seen in the trailer)  to make sure people know this is claymation and not 3D modelling of characters :)




* I have been corrected, apparently 2x in the adventures he makes yelps, but the only one I remember is when he is whizzed around by the drill in "A Grand Day out".

I saw Chicken Run when it was in the movie theaters!   :)   I certainly remember the RAF chicken!   :)   Now I see the similarity between Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run!   :)

I particularly liked the line:

"I'm a chicken. The Royal Air Force doesn't allow CHICKENS to fly their planes"

They had us ready to believe anything - after all the "chickens" had built a flying machine ;)

It was a fun movie and I liked Mel Gibson's character!  Has this team done any other work besides Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit?

They have done various TV adverts and shorts. They had a TV Series called Rex the Runt, and also a series of 2 minutes films which initially broadcast on the internet called Angry Kid. They had a set of adverts in the UK called the Creature Comforts where they did interviews with people and then animated animals to speak the voices of the interviewees! Also do you remember the video for Sledgehammer? Aardman did that as well! Dancing chickens? Hehehe...

I am not a big fan of these two!

Did they do the reindeer thing with Robbie Williams?

Speaking of classic claymation - did anyone use to watch Gumby? It was one of my childhood favourites!

Gumby and his pony pal Pokey too were my favorites when I was little. ;D

I am showing my age but I too was a Gumby and Pokey fan when I was a little tyke!   :)

I looooooooved them!!! Its an ageless cartoon - it was one of my childhood staples along with the Berenstein Bears, Sesame Street and Mr Squiggle!

When I was a kid, I read more than I watched TV though, anyway :)

Me too but there's only an hour and a half of Wallace and Gromit out there anyway ;)

I used to get £2 a week pocket money and most books back then that I was interested in were £1.95.

Imagine my dismay when many books went up to £2.25!!!!  :o

I can't remember but I think my parents upped my pocket money around 25p in the end - they must be the heros of this tale :D

We will definitely do so - I know Mark will be good at it as he has made figures for me before - so I shall get some brown FIMO (so we can bake it in the oven and it can be everlasting) and when he gets around to it I'll show it off here :)

I don't know anything about this - the only reference I can find to it on the internet is a film company competition who had 5 of these kits to give away .... I am very pleased with it I have to say - I must dash out and buy some FIMO

I went to the movies yesterday to see Bewitched - see my review in this topic - and saw a movie poster up for Wallace & Gromit - Curse of the Wererabbit!  It is going to be released here in October - oh boy!!!   :)

Nick Park was just on Rove Live (Aussie chat show) and was talking about the world premiere of the movie in Sydney yesterday... it was fantastic! I wonder why it gets released here before the UK though... not that I am complaining ;)

I was just watching the Wrong Trousers and Gromit stands outside the Bathroom looking annoyed whilst someone inside cleans their teeth (from the noise it can be nothing else) but Wallace walks past... what kind of bird has teeth to clean? None

Anyway we are going to require a full report on the film Jo... and asap.... I hope you have tickets booked? How many showings? 50? ;) It will take almost that many to see all the detail.

They are also re-releasing the DVD of the previous adventures in October I'm going to hang back and see if it comes with a boxed set of the film later on because I already have the 3 adventures but I'd like to see the new bonus material at some point.

There are screening this coming Saturday and Sunday at one of the city cinemas! I will definitely try and see it then if I finish work early enough! :o

Is it a school holiday coming up there Jo? Disney releases in the UK wait til half term etc so that they can ensure all the children are available to see it and get it to the number one slot, however half term in the UK isn't til mid october... so that's why it's being released here then (even though this isn't Disney they are obviously operating on the same tactic). However I'm rather insulted that they think it's for kids... I may have been a kid when I fell in love with it - but it doesn't seem to me to have lost any of its charm for 25 year olds, and I know fans much older than me  ;)

Umm... to be honest, I don't know... school seems so distant now ???

I don't think so though, because usually school terms are roughly about the same length as university mid sessions, and the break for us is still a couple of weeks off.

Whoever heard of something that is a kids only book/movie? Some jokes and references in these are things that only adults would understand... next they'll be trying to tell us that Harry Potter is a kids book... oh ::)

I went and saw it tonight and it was fantastic! The animation was fantastic, the storyline very unique and classic Aardman. Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes were perfectly cast (contrast Ralph's character with Voldemort ;) ) Nick Park is on a winner with this one and I would be very surprised if it didn't get an Oscar nomination at the very least. As usual, the highlights for me were Gromit (how can they do so many expressions with just his eyebrows?), Wallace and his cheese obsession and his 'Assistance' ;D There were many tongue in cheek references that had me giggling, e.g. during the opening credits, note where Gromit graduated from ;D

One of the (many) lines that had me howling and that won't spoil anything was: "Beware, the moon!" (look out for this one :rofl:)

For those who are yet to see it (well, that would be all of you >:D), when you go, watch out for the Pansy spray! :rofl:

I'm glad the quality is still up there, did you know that BEFORE THEY MADE THE FILM they were getting £50 million ($85 million) a year from Royalties... and it's 10 years since W&G had their last outing.

Well Jo - Wallace and Gromit have 2 Oscars already, a third would probably cheer them up - oh and if you are wondering why Wallace and Gromit only got 2 oscars when they have had 3 animated adventures that's because Aardman (and Nick Park's) other project (creature comforts) went head to head the year that "A grand day out" was released so they couldn't win the same oscar twice now could they? ;)

There was a nice article in the daily ways magazine about this today which picture, ooo I really can't wait.

I went to Burger King today and had a kids meal, with it you get a W&G toy. You see it was just research. It had some interesting facts on the bag one of which was that the grass in the film was make from fake fur which is rather cool ;D

Lol, I fancied a changed and wanted something W&G I got if from thier website.

I won't reveal too much, except that I loved it - and the point that got me streaming with tears was "the purse/change" incident... ooooooooooooooooooooooh I nearly died!

Oooh well we just got back from seeing it and it was fab! Highly recommended to anyone with even the slightest sense of humour! :D

Empire have just hinted that they fully expect some oscar success - and Empire gave it 5/5 which is practically unheard of by the most highly respected Film review magazine in the UK



Nick Park keeps describing it as a "Vegetarian Hammer Horror" which makes me giggle already ;D

we got ours a couple of days ago... went to ASDA and they had a whole shelf full of them! They didn't look like they were about to sell out all that soon either, so I just got 2. It's very cool but a real bugger to wash up!

We have ours too, got them from Tesco's.  It is just so cute.  And don't panic about the competition, it doesn't close 'till Jan 2006 so plenty of time to get your thinking caps on  ;D

I saw the Film today and it was totally BRILLIANT! I haven't laughed that much for ages  :rofl: it was great.

I am planning on hitting Sainsburys, Co-op, and Waitrose tomorrow in search for the illusive mug.

I went to London yesterday and just had to go to Hamleys as you do (for those who don't know Hamleys is THE toy shop) and they had this in the window its one of the real sets I thought you might like to see  ;D

Took my son to see the movie. It's a riot for kids and adults. Some of the bawdy innuendo was over his head but, I'm sure the adults caught on to it.

Is the Madagascar short always attached to it ???

And I must say only truly British heroes would have a cup a tea while sliding down a shoot ;)

I love that Madagascar short... the penguins were my favourite characters from that movie, so when I saw it I thought I had (metaphorically) died and gone to heaven ;)

Yes the 3 times I've seen it the Madagascar thing's been attached. It was mildly amusing the first time but it is really starting to get on my nerves
