Money to be made on POA Update ??

 I've been a card dealer for about 12 years here in the USA  and while many,many of you on this particular board are Harry Potter card collectors , I honestly am looking at things in more of a business way  ---- hoping to make some money by opening boxes/cases of particular products ......
 
   I broke 3 cases of  the original POA and did very,very well selling the inserts, foils, costume, prop & autos on Ebay ---

 Now from what I've been reading it looks like this is  Update set is a bit of a different "animal" .....
  More boxes and cases produced for sure ......

   What I'm wondering is , from what you've seen or heard so far ,, if you think that this Update set can still be profitable for the case buster / insert  card seller ??

 Higher serial numbered prop/costume cards (on average) but more of them to chase  --- good or bad for the seller ??

  Last time probably 70% of my POA sales went to customers in  Japan, UK , Australia & New Zealand --- will that change now that there are "overseas" cases been made and shipped to those countries ??

  Honestly I knew I  couldn't expect to see a repeat of the POA set , sales wise,  but I have to admit I'm getting a bit nervous about whether I made a smart decision buying 3 cases .......
  the print run and not necessarily the inserts is what's worrying me ........
  I know it's a bit early yet but just wanted to get some feedback since my cases won't arrive until late next week ......

If you are thinking of the UK, half the product came to the UK last time as well so there is no change there. It's still not properly and freely available in Australia, perhaps the only change is the 200 or so cases sent to Japan.

As to the rest of it? I don't know yet but there are some very hard pulls in this set and I am not just takling about everyone's favourite 3 signers!

As with all cards it seems like a roll of the dice on this set, where as I think POA original was basically a guarantee to at least get your money back if you broke a case.

I think you hit the nail on the head on the amount of cases going outside the US and UK are going to make this a different set for sure.   I sold some of my doubles and a couple of the cards I didn't want as I wasn't going for a master set and spent over $1700 for 18 boxes and wanted to recoup some of that and I would say half of what I resold when outside the US also.  And this release isn't going to surprise anyone ( I didn't know about it so I didn't buy mine early).

Well as an Australian for the last update I brought no boxes and solely brought of UK sellers - just the autograph cards.

This time around I purchased a case from a US dealer I use to get my Buffy/Charmed stuff.

I soley brought the case for the possibility I might get one of the big fish autos because I knew I would not have the dollars to buy it as a single card purchase. That is my gamble.

I will just sell off everything else I don't want to keep out of this case. Depends on what is in it of course

And whatever I get back from that I will be looking to purchase the other autos that I didn't get in my case. Thats of course if I get any. So it probably swings in roundabouts.

As this set is difficult to get a master, collectors will change their habits and only collect certain bits of it. Like me I'm just after the autos.

But I funded this by selling some of my Buffy stuff inserts I had collected over the years.

I think the way to make money off of this one is to just sell the boxes. People will try their luck to get one of the big autos... or the holy grail the triple signed card. (nice one to gimli) Every box, for the most part, has something to offer so it is not a total waste for someone to by one. (not like the lame sketch cards in the Topps SW heritage) but... the problem is that people will compare this to the first set and they will look at the quantity available between the two. A thousand of one prop card is not too many if you think about it. (and only about 10 cards are around or above this) ...but again versus the first set this looks like a big hill. Anyways... with christmas coming and the dvd release i think the boxes would be the better bet right now.
