Will boxes ever reach $100

With the first set being so hot, and reaching $200 box within 6 weeks of release, what does everyone think this set will do?  I think that even though there are more cases (rumors from 1300 to 2000) that the quality of the cards in this set will drive up the box price, it will just take more time.  If you look at the Two Towers cards, there were a considerable amount more of those produced, and there odds went from 1 autograph in every 24 packs to 1 in 36, and the quality of the autographs stayed about the same (we lost gandalf and gimli from hobby packs, but gained Legolas and Eowyn)  and those boxes reached a high of $150 at one point, and are creaping back down closer to $100 now.  I would think with the higher volume on ebay due to holiday season that more people will find out about these cards and boxes will creap up close to $75 to $80 a box by the end of the year.... any thoughts?

  It's really hard to say...I think it is quite possible since there are some really great cards per box. Like you already said it will take QUITE some time before this happens though, especially if there were around 2000 cases produced. I think a good way to "meter" the potential would be to follow the price of the lotr chrome boxes. 1 auto and 2 costumes per lotr box is strong!

With this BIG Printrum i would say that the box prices will go down first. Too many boxes, basics and inserts for the market. Look at the Weasley Quidditch Robe lim. to 1300 this was a COMMON for 10-15$ on Ebay. Now we have Costume Cards with 2000+

I do not see that the boxes will be reach the 100 soon. Maybe in 1  Year.

I think I agree w/ T & F.

I think we will see the same thing we saw with LOTR.

POA update is overproduced (I think this will be the case when we find out how many cases they truely made) and with so many inserts people are only going to collect the ones they want and few will try to complete the set (as well as the Harry, Ron, and Hermione auto's being so scarce (and the triple) it seems based on Case Breakdowns).

I think there are a lot of dealers (and collectors) who loaded up on this product thinking that it might command $200 a box again after release.  I think there will be people sitting on so many cases that the price will take a long time to hit $100.  I think the singles will be worth more, you could be sitting on a box with the triple

I thought Star Wars Heritage would be golden, but there were so many orders the auto's were impossible and you can still pick up a case for a little over presell price and potomac keeps lowering there price on SW Heritage so it would seem there is little collector interest in the boxes anymore... In fact SW Heritage was going for almost $600 a case on ebay the week before release - now about $450-$500.

I hope I am wrong on this and the boxes and cards will go up, but I think they will suffer from to big a print run.  There certainly aren't as many HP fans (I think)with money to spend as there are LOTR fans(as I am thinking a lot of HP fans are under 18)  I think these cards look great and we will see.  I think this will weed out the collectors vs. investors.  

And I am as guilty as anyone of most likely buying to much and should have saved a few $$$ buying extra cases and just picked up the cards I wanted instead.

Oh and if twice as many cases went to the UK and cases went to Japan and OZ this time that will certainly affect the demand if it can be picked up locally.

I am sure our friend kyo141 (or whatever his ID was most of you know who I am talking about) probably picked up 50 cases of his own instead of buying single from the UK and US this time.  That certainly has to affect the high end single market.  Hopefully they will settle in at about 1000 cases on the next release.

Well then it is us the consumer who probably drove the print numbers up with buying up cases in early orders. I suspect when Artbox realised that dealers were placing such higher numbers for cases than the first run they increased the total print run. Who can blame them really - aint they only catering for the market demand.

I think that there might have been oversupply this time and I'm glad I stuck to my guns and only got the one case. The rest I pick up over time in accordance with my affordability range.

It will be a lesson for one and all

I think you are right, but we will see, it may take another release or two to correct however as I am sure they will produce no less next HP product.

put me down for $75 to $80 a box before christmas. Christmas tends to inflate prices a bit and also because the dvd. (why not buy a box of harry potter and the dvd!).... lol watch the movie and open cards christmas morning. what fun!!

ALSO...almost forgot... this set has the three main character autos... plus the triple auto. that alone will help bring the box price up.

I reckon they will - those of you that were around for LOTR FOTR cards (sadly not me :'() saw the retail boxes go for cheap (1 per 3 box chances of pulling the rare retail autos) but they were going for at least $250-300 at one point last year

With the 3 rare autos and the triple, I think that these will go the same way - maybe not in the near future, but I think they will make it in a year
