Well, tonight all the months of waiting finally paid off (well, kinda), as my local collectible show dealer had retail boxes of the update.  First, let me clarify what's been said earlier.  According to my dealer, there are two costume cards exclusive to the retail version of the update set.  These cards will be available one-per-box in retail boxes and inserted randomly into packs in the tins.
The card I pulled was a Harry Robe card.  It is thinner than earlier costume cards and appears to contain fabric from the lining of the robe, as it is a dark grey, as opposed to the black of the earlier Harry Robe cards.  And, yes, it will be common.  My card is numbered 795 of 2575.  If there are indeed only 4000 boxes of the retail, one would assume that that means that there will be 1425 of the other card, whatever it is.

The other difference in the retail set is, as before, "M" cards instead of "R' cards, with the last three cards different in the retail set (again, as before), and the checklist card listing the "M" cards on the back.

Collation was pretty decent.  I got one complete base set.  Missing one card for a second complete base set, with six extras.  Got M01, 03, 05, 06, and 09.
Cards definitely look nice.

My dealer told me he has heard the triple-auto card will be limited to 25, and will probably not be counted as one of the two autos per case.

The U.S. east coast will be getting their shipments first, as per the previously reported "stagger" scenario.

Roz, if you read this, my good friend Fernando (frd) was kind enough to scan pics of the costume card and the M09 card, but my primitive brain is incapable of posting them to the message board, so I have e-mailed them to you.  At thirty-five, after ten years as a Civil Servant, I have to restrain myself from punching-out my computer screen at times like these, so I leave the thinking work to you.

What a disturbing feeling it was, forking-over nearly $2000 to secure two more cases for myself and one for my buddy.  The jagged scar on my foreheard is throbbing just a bit...

It is nice but i hope there are not too many cards numbered over 2000 cause that is a lot of cards for the market to absorb

CJD it's just under the SHA of shack on the watermark!

It was always hard to get a quality scan of the numbers Wink

There's more to come with a pic of the retail foil of Buckbeak M09

Thanks for posting the pics, Roz.  That watermark is a good idea for so many reasons I won't begin to list them.  Kudos to Fernando (frd) for scanning the cards for me.  (Giving them to him to take home tonight was like giving away a litter of kittens.  Embarrassed)

I don't think anyone has said enough about the great artwork on the retail-exclusive "M" cards, so far.  The last set looked super and the new M09 definitely carries on the tradition.  Incredibly talented artists at work.

You are right about the "M" cards. I own only one that Chris gave to me at C6 - it's beautiful!

Thanks to FRD and MorenoMark again

Was the Harry robe card in a pack or was it inserted like a box topper?

It was in a pack.  I'm thinking this explains how they will be randomly placed in the tins;  like before, it will be the contents of a retail box busted into four-pack sets.  Kinda scary if you figure one in twenty-four packs.  One in six tins?  Yikes!

ford-prefect, I bet you're right about it being part of the hood.  Hadn't thought about that.

Roz, we need a "doh!" smilie!  Of course the card would be in a pack -- don't know where my head is today (probably off wondering where my order is).

wow, 1 in 6 tins!!!!  Well, I want one of each tin, so that is three.......  Now, the one card is numbered out of 2750?  And someone says only 2000 boxes were made?  That means, 1 in each box and another 750 for the tins?  I am so confused.
