Got a note from "The" Tom that they will be shipping the Warlord of Mars cards on Wednesday, the 29th, at last.

Three notes from TOM:
1. Warlord of Mars shipped today please do not release till Wednesday 9/05
2. Please note each box now as 3 hits instead of 2: 2 SKETCH plus either auto/chase/comic panel
and some even have 4 hits
AND, if you bought 10 cases
3. Also note that the incentives for 10 case is 2 boxes shrinked wrapped together and this had all the chase cards and a card set and 25 sketch cards, TOM
If you are a collector of the Warlord of Mars this set is amazing.

John Carter. Character from the book "Princess of Mars" by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The third book in the series was called "The Warlord of Mars". This is what let the film down. If it had been called "John Carter:Warlord of Mars", the audience would have been significantly higher. Just calling it "John Carter" is so nondescript it could be about anything from a shoe salesman to a train driver. |

Th original title was actually John Carter of Mars but Disney discovered that title's with Mars in it are not as high grossing or so the rumour goes. I personally love the film.
This set does look great, especially the landscape sketches. I've seen a preview one by Keezle that looks superb.

I liked the movie. I hate the sketches. The majority of the ones I saw on NSU were of "overinflated" women with pasties.
Good ahead, make your jokes about loving sketches of big boobs. Every time I see a set like this (which seems to be more and more frequently), I cringe.

I'm not a huge fan of the those sketches either but still think it's a great set. These are the type of sketches I like, they are the 2 on the right and middle one. Just love the sketches of the planet and space itself  |

As for the "featured graphics," the series isn't based on the Disney movie, it's based on comic series. And the artwork in the comics is dominated by views of our favorite Martian Princess, Dejah Thoris. Princess or not, according to the original books, there's a bit of artistic license (or attempts to retain PG rating) when the artists add the pasties.  Almost half of the base cards feature art from the comic miniseries "Warlord of Mars: Dejah Thoris" and "Dejah Thoris and the White Apes of Mars." Many of the other cards can feature muscled thews à lá Conan-style artwork. Joe Jusko did two complete art-card series featuring the Carter/Barsoom and Tarzan cycles and he contributed a dozen of the base cards and some Z-card sketches here. Cryptozoic's recent Tarzan-comics set didn't have as much opportunity to focus so heavily on babes. Many sketch and comic artists have found success by not shying away from picturing the lightly clothed female form. And 100 years ago, Edgar Rice Burroughs was writing *pulp* novels as magazine serials. They are "romance novels" as much as "thud and blunder." Add a half century, and you see John Norman try to repeat the genre with Gor books, which are so laced with explicit sex and violence that you'd have great difficulty selling a screenplay to Disney! In the early 20th Century, ERB left a little bit to the reader's imagination. |

Did you break any boxes John? I have broke some boxes. Pulled some nice sketches, for example Rhiannon Owens and JD Seeber. 99% of the sketches are in color. Bad news is there are no sketches by SHUM....Aaaawww.  The base set has lots of mini comic book covers from the Warlord of Mars comics by Dynamite Pub. |
