Now that there is a trilogy pack in existence I notice that a lot of FOTR packs appearing ..

Am I right in saying that the original sort after pack does NOT have any metallic lettering ,, from memory I think that it is orange ..

Roz / Mak ,, U being the experts ,, heads up if you will

Ahh are the new sets gold leaf lettered? I am only going by memory here too but I think it's a sort of rustic orange too.

I have yet to buy the "trilogy" set. I should start looking, is it in the shops yet?

The difference I have noticed in pictures is that the new ones say "specials" underneath the "top trumps" logo on the front card and on the back of each card.

The ROTK set always had gold lettering and was in the "top trumps specials" series.

If you haven't had any LOT top trumps I'd highly recommend getting hold of several friends and a set and have a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG game, if you know your LOTR characters (and I think you all do) you will win Cheesy I think you get all 3 base packs and 9 "super top trump" cards.

I wants one precious!

You're quite correct on the printing & colour info!
The original FOTR and TTT sets had orange (FOTR) and yellow (TTT) lettering on the title cards and didn't have the gold foil on them.
The new ones all have 'Specials' on the title cards and there's gold foil printing on all of the cards ~ the 'One Ring' card has a nice fat gold foil border around the pic, which is rather spiffy!  Grin

I bought a couple of the boxed Trilogy sets online (one to open, one to keep sealed LOL), received them last week and they are absolutely fabulous!
There are 9 'super' cards in the set too which are dark brown in colour, so they don't really fit in with the others (in my opinion) but are nice all the same.  Smiley
I'm sure I PM'd you a link Roz to where I got them from and if I can work out how to do the URL here then I'll post it for everyone else to use.
This site was selling them for £13.99 each which is a good price from what I've seen and I don't think you'll be disappointed with them either.

http://www.simplytoptrumps.com/

Now all I need to find is a ROTK Flying Nazgul card for my lad which won't break the bank to buy, so he can complete his set! Roll Eyes
If anyone on the Forum has one spare which they'd be willing to sell me, then I'd like to hear from you please  Smiley

Funny about all those older FOTR sets emerging from the shadows when you couldn't find one for love nor money a few months ago isn't it? I've also noticed they aren't fetching the silly prices they were then either, which is great for people like me who wanted a FOTR set in a case and couldn't afford one back then  Wink but a total bummer for sellers who were making a killing on them and expected to carry on doing so. Tongue (Sorry no sympathy from me there I'm afraid)

Aaawwwwwwwww  Shocked
I know you didn't make vast amounts of cash with your FOTR sets and I still have the set I bought from you ... unopened!! Grin
I predict these new sets flying off the shelves in the run up to Christmas, especially for peeps who didn't get a Fellowship set the first time around.
I don't know if places like ToyRUs or Woolworths will stock them (they're supposed to be a limited run), but when I asked about them in TRU a few weeks back they didnt know what I was talking about! Roll Eyes
Nothing new there then ..... Tongue
I'll ask again next time I'm up there and let you know. Smiley
I also think that sellers selling off their the old sets now will regret it in a few months, cos I reckon their prices will sky rocket as the supply (on eBay) dries up again ~ I'd definitely hang on to those last four sets you have Roz .... sets in cases topped £30 each not that long ago  Wink

Well no I didn't make a *fortune* as such, for instance I only own half the land in Cambridgeshire and only own 4 castles... not rich at all Wink

I just ordered my trilogy set from simplytoptrumps - what a bargain!

THanks for the "heads up"

I must stop reading this forum - I have now purchased the LOTR Trilogy set and also bought the 'Roald Dahl' Top Trumps, so wont be eating for a week! I always loved Roald Dahl books and was fortunate enough to meet him when I was a kid and get a booked signed by him. With Charlie and the CF being made as a big movie, these cards could also sell out quickly.

Oh dear ... maybe we should club together Roz and send over some baked beans to keep her fed?  Shocked Wink

Or jam ....

Or ham ....

Or SPAM!!!  Grin

You'll love the sets though and I know just what you mean about not having anything to spend on the necessary but really boring things in life ~ like food!  Wink

Just think of the Roald Dahl cards as a happy reminder of a clever writer and someone you were sooo lucky to meet  Grin

Good question Samwise  Grin

The site posted above seems to be the only place that has them. I couldn't see them anywhere in Chelters today and I've not seen them anywhere else online. I'm waiting on confirmation/prices from www.uktradingcards.com (they don't charge postage)  Cheesy Cheesy

I actually bought mine in 'Borders' for £14.00. Was going to buy online, but thought Id check out Borders first as I know they do Top Trumps and wanted to save postage. They only had 5 boxes on the shelf though.

BTW Nienna - the jam and ham would be fine, but no thanks to the spam!

As far as I'm aware, they were released towards the end of August, as I paid for mine as a pre-sell and then waited.
There were sets on eBay which must've come from the last card convention where you told me you'd seen them Roz and these eBayers were making an absolute killing on them before they were released on general sale.
I looked on the simplytoptrumps site to find out the exact date, but the chap running it didn't know himself when I asked.
I got my sets during the last week in August and I'm sure they would've been despatched as soon as they'd got them in stock, so I'm very pleased that others who've bought them from the Forum have had such good delivery times/prices on them as I did!  Cheesy
Hee Hee I should've asked him for commission shouldn't I? LOL  Wink

We haven't got a Borders shop here in Derby ~ we have to make do with ToysRUs or the Co-Op for stuff like this I'm afraid  Roll Eyes

As for Spam ... mmmm, well it's years since I've had the stuff and it just doesn't hold the same appeal as it used to do, so I think I'd stick with the jam and ham too!  Tongue

UK Trading cards still don't have them, so I went down town & got a set from Argos.

You can order online here: http://www.argos.co.uk/

Then do a search on "Trilogy" (Sorry - original link refuses to work) Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Ha!

I had originally assumed that the Trilogy set would have included the Shelob and Flying Nazgul and Balrog "super top trumps" that we have already!

If anyone needs a "Balrog" one let me know - or PM me your mailing address. I should have some left underneath all this (I am currently unpacking after moving home at the weekend).

Balrog sent Rob.. I hope he hasn't burned he envelope before he gets there!!! Beasts of shadow and flame are notoriously hard to pack!

If any top trumps fanatics are interested I am trying to get recoup a bit of cash I spent buy buying the box set of Star Wars offline instead of online by selling the "super" special limited edition top trumps I got with my DVD... if anyone is interested have a nosey at my ebay auction here

Cheers
