Sue, yes i think so, we'll see many new sets the next years.  Tongue

Back to the Crystal sets:

I think, we have 2 variations of the Crystal Cards. The blue/purple cards and the yellow/gold cards. There's not a third colour in my opinion (at first i thought the blue ones are new, but referring to one auction blue is the same as purple). But who knows?  Roll Eyes Can there be a different blue colour?

Let's take a look at the picture on the official artbox website:

So we have 6 different crystal cards, on this picture all in a blue/purple colour. Lets call them number 1-6 from the left two the right.

I never saw number one anywhere yet. No. 2,3 and 6 were case toppers in both colours. And now they've put some of these case toppers in the grab bags, these cards are selling separately on ebay.

Number 4 and 5 (and maybe no. 1 too) were sold in crystal card sets, limited to 50. The new cards are always combined with old case toppers. The only colour i was able to recognise from the auctions yet is a current yellow set no. 23/50 with card no. 4 (Ron).

8 sets appeared on ebay yet, 6 with Harry and Voldemort (number 10, 16, 19, 34, 36, 43) and 2 with Harry and Ron (number 22 and 23).

What does that all mean?  Huh

I think, all the 6 different cards exist in both colours, the 3 new ones too. Yes, they must have produced all 6 in both colours.

We can see Ron in yellow, maybe one of the new Harry cards in the sets was blue/purple.

If they want to put all the 3 new crystal cards only in the 50 sets and maybe with both colours, then there would exist less than 10 of each card. I'm absolutely sure, there are much more. They wouldn't produce more than 100 of the first 3 ones and now only 10 of each (or 20, if there is only one colour of the new ones, but i don't think so).

So will we see the news crystal cards later again, maybe as new case toppers? Or anywhere else? Or are there 50 sets of each combination and not 50 sets altogether? But i don't think so.

So many questions ...  Huh  Undecided  Tongue

Unless Warner Bros. pulls the license, Artbox will keep producing cards.  The other manufacturers do the same thing.  Just look at Rittenhouse with Star Trek (35 sets, large and small) and Inkworks with Buffy (18 sets).

For anyone starting now who doesn't have access to a fortune, it's probably a good idea to either focus on a few sets (knowing that the older the set, the more difficult and expensive it will be to pick up the cards), or select some cards from each set that appeal most to you.  Some people may prefer autos or props, for instance.  With new releases, another way is to not buy any boxes, set a budget, then buy as many cards as possible within that budget.

I agree! Once I saw that there were going to be a ton of sets, I scaled back a LOT.  I've got a couple of props I like, some costume cards I like, an auto from each character I like (except for the big 3 because unless I pull it, I can't afford to buy one) and assorted other cards.  My favorites are the motion case cards.

There are THREE 2-card sets, each set numbered to 50. So it is possible to make a 6 card set.

There are no color variations, they are all clear, however the light up base has 4 different colors that shine through the clear cards

Thanks, Bryan!  It's nice to get info from someone who's seen the cards up close. Smiley

I've scaled back on my collecting, too.  I've been weeding through my cards, keeping my favorites and selling the rest.  Cards aren't selling too well at the moment, but hopefully, things will pick up in the fall.

Oh, thanks for the info, Bryan. So we have the known case toppers in yellow and purple and the 6 new clear cards, right? And we have 150 sets altogether. Very interesting. Smiley

Technically, there are only 50 sets total. The entire set includes all 6 cards, and since there are only 5 sets of each of the two cards there are only 50 sets available

I bought one from a dealer for $30.00, shipping included. So, I'll bet the show price was around $20.00, assuming my seller isn't taking a loss.
I got it for $30.00 because I bought sets 2 and 3 of the Crystal Cards.

If I remember right they were $15. I have 3 left over that are going onto Ebay.

Now I am in the recovering from Comic Con phase where I spent an entire day listing stuff on ebay and trying to make some of my $ back. Be sure to check out my ebay store as there will be lots of Potter cards going up including a Grint Auto, a very nice GOFU Hermione Book variant, OOTP/OOTPU Mask Prop Cards and tons of other goodies.

Back to the SDCC crystal card sets. Some of the photos in auctions really make the crystals look yellow or blue, but everybody who has handled them "in person" says they are clear.

I note that some of the case-toppers from OOTPU seemed to be totally clear, too. I had to hold mine so that I was looking at it directly edge-on before I could detect a tint.

Brianjs14 confirms that there are 3 pairs, each numbered to 50, from the Artbox set-of-six. That's 150 boxed pairs, or 300 crystal cards. Numbering left to right from the image Tower posted at the top of page 3, they are:

#5 Harry pointing wand + #3 Voldemort
#2 Harry with crossed arms + #4 Ron
#1 Harry portrait + #6 Hermione

Of the 24, here are the numbers observed so far:

#5 + #3 -- 04 - 10 - 13 - 16 - 19 - 34 - 35 - 36 - 43
#2 + #4 -- 09 - 22 - 23 - 28 - 33 - 37 - 44 - 45 - 47 - 48
#1 + #6 -- 13 - 20 - 24 - 38 - 45

The Harry+Hermione has shown up less than the other two pairs, but we expect this totally an artifact of the sets being distributed in different days' raffles. (Reports say the same number were raffled off each day.)   It wouldn't be the first time that some numbered Artbox items were held back for future offers or goody bags, but apparently not so this time.

One auction featured a single Harry crystal card, and said it was distributed at SDCC in a series of 50 with a lighted base. Though the seller is reputable, nobody else knows about it, and it appears that the auction description and title were a mistake or there was some "break room reshuffling" of items. Other auctions have mistakenly identified goody-bag pulls of extra items from previous series to be Con exclusives ... but now we know how Artbox deals with the fact that the sum of numbered-to totals for props and costumes in every series are always are 20-30% above the number expected in packs.

Allender,
Ok, let me clear this up.

All 6 cards offered as exclusives at comic con are clear. I saw them, touched them, held them. All 6 are clear. There are a TOTAL of 300 crystal cards offered at Comic Con. 50 of each of the 6 cards, and each card came in a two card set. Hope that clears things up. The only reason one might seem more short printed is because you could not just walk up and buy a set, you put your name into a raffle and the next day 50 winners were drawn. It is more than likely the case that on Sunday (the final day when the Hermione/Harry was offered) a lot of people that won were not even there, so not a lot of that set got sold. That is my only guess.

Now back to my trade thread.
I have posted what Potter cards I picked up in the Goody bags and boxes at Comic Con on Ebay now. There are still lots of other cards going up throughout the day...Star Wars LOTR Iron man ect ect but I got the potter up. The only card NOT up yet is the Hermione GOFU P10 Prop Card but here is a scan for everyone to see. Is the gold lettering a normal occurrence?

Hermione's Book will start at 9:00PM Eastern tonight and run 5 days with no reserve. Also, the line going through the card is just the penny sleeve reflecting from the scanner. I will prob rescan it and try to get rid of that before it goes up for auction.
