Can someone please tell me what the appeal is with it, its seems to manly have missed us in the UK. We have it and I have tried it, but to me it just tastes like disinfectant  |

Haaaaa!!!  I love root beer! In fact, I have some in the fridge right now. Not many people I know like it either, but I've always had a taste for it. It's especially good with a scoop if vanilla ice cream in the glass. Then the drink is called a root beer float. |

The appeal is to each his own Dawn
It is more of a North American drink, and it's what they have been exposed to I suppose growing up
What we may seem as weird or gross maybe be the norm somewhere else in the world..Offer a North American mushy peas and see what kind of a reaction you get
or offer a Brit a Dr. Pepper and watch their face when they taste it
Give a North American a Dandelion and Burdock and we'll have some fun
Root beer is an offshoot of Sarsaparilla from the old wild west times...and at that time was a form of a medicine drink....Maureen

Sounds a little like tonic (which Brits drank as a source of quinine in India to keep malaria at bay, and quinine is still the basis of most malarial treatments). We should all mail each other a nice can of local weird drinks |

Well that's part of my point...You say 15 years Brit kids have been drinking Dr. Pepper......most kids over here have been drinking it for for more or nearly 100 years.......Give a Pepper to someone in thier 30's and 50's and let's see the reaction

I've hit 30 and love Dr Peppers, I hate D & B, and Mushy peas and I love elderflower. I think its all down to personal taste, they do say that some people taste things stronger than others.

Boggy drinks Dr Pepper by the gallon and he is ....... actually I better not mention his age, people that old can get a bit touchy at times Root beer floats are my favorite treat! We do the same with Pepsi/Coke or Cream Soda. Yum But lets be honest, nothing beats a nice cup of tea  |

Vanilla ice cream is best, but my mom loves it with chocolate ice cream. My dad prefers to mix in some milk with root beer. Surprisingly, it tastes good!  Sheesh, it's 20 degrees below zero (Fahrenheit) with the wind chill, but instead of hot chocolate, I want a root beer float!  |

This is so true, and they say the same for sight, Mark and I see turquoise totally differently, to him it's more blue and to me it's more green... weird but true. ... another thing - Mark doesn't like vinegar on his chips (heretic...) but he does have German blood... maybe that's why (my Dutch pals can't get over the fact that we put vinegar on our chips but when you think of the vinegar content of ketchup the Americans are just as bad ). Maybe this should be the 'weird local tastes' thread |

It's not something I've tried, but now I think I simply have to This winter, the heating bills have been ridiculous. We went through 175 gallons of oil in less than five weeks. The electric bill shot through the roof, too. The cold spell is supposed to snap this weekend, but that just means it'll be cold instead of frostbite-in-two-minutes cold. My favorite brand of root beer is called IBC. It's bottled in glass bottles. They make yummy cream soda and black cherry soda, too. For more commercial brands, I prefer A & W over Barq's. |

Yes, IBC root beer is the best! Also the IBC orange cream soda is to DIE for!!! It tastes just like a creamsicle! YUM!! Roz, I also like vinegar on my fish and "chips". I've been eating them that way since I was little. Ketchup, I can take it or leave it. Mostly leave it. |

OK OK Now I'm quite intrigued No I don't have ice cream in the tea although in the summer with ice tea ..... . If you have never tried Coke and ice cream you don't know what you are missing. Try and get slightly flat Coke otherwise the reaction between the ice cream and liquid is quite urgent. I let the ice cream fully melt before I drink it ... another thing - Mark doesn't like vinegar on his chips (heretic...) but he does have German blood... maybe that's why (my Dutch pals can't get over the fact that we put vinegar on our chips but when you think of the vinegar content of ketchup the Americans are just as bad ). No it can't be the German connection. We are either one eighth or one sixteenth (never can work it out) German and we have our chips positively soggy. Mark is a heretic for some other reason |

In Aus, we call a soft drink with added ice cream a "spider"...dont ask me why...but we make it with any flavoured soft drink...raspberry is good!
