Orlando Bloom is new James Bond
Orlando Bloom is to play the new James Bond.

However, the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' heartthrob will not be replacing Pierce Brosnan as 007 - instead he will star in a movie about the suave spy' s younger days.

A source at Hollywood studios Miramax, who are making the film, revealed: "The story that Orlando will play Bond is true but we are doing a rather novel film about the young James Bond.

"The author, Ian Fleming, never really got into this period of his character 's life, but he did mention in 'You Only Live Twice' that Bond attended Fettes College, having been expelled from Eton.
Charlie Higson, who is writing the screenplay, has woven a wonderful tale around this." Miramax believe Orlando - who was recently tipped to take over from Pierce Brosnan in the regular Bond films - will be perfect for the role.

Oh man... while I like Orli, he can't play James Bond... maybe the playboy earlier version, but even that is pushing it. Doesn't have the erm... I can' think of the word for it - suaveness? I heard Hugh Jackman was a favourite to take over Brosnan - now THAT'S a Bond I'd like to see! Grin

I must agree with you FTY on that one....Orlando just does't seem like he'd fit the role. I would LOVE to see Hugh Jackman as Bond Shocked

I agree 100% with you both!  I just do not think Orlando has the Bond image or stature.  I agree that Hugh Jackman does and would rather see him in the role.   Smiley

Here you go, Eric Bana is now apparently a favourite to take the role of 007. Its harder for me to see him as Bond than Hugh, but I still think he could do a great job - refer to Hector in Troy and Chopper Read in Chopper Shocked

(the last bit of the link is unlinkable, but if you copy and paste the entire link into your browser, you should be able to access the article)

But for our Aussie posters, its very hard to see him as the suave super-spy - when he has just been good old 'Poiter' from Full Frontal (please tell me someone did use to watch that when it was on!). For the non-initiated, Eric made his debut as a stand up comedien. He was a favourite on an Australian sketch comedy show called Full Frontal where one of his signature characters was Peter (pronounced 'Poiter' with the extreme Aussie accent - think the Crocodile Hunter) who was a real Aussie bloke in all his erm... glory Wink You know, blue singlet top, shorts and a beer gut Grin

Hulk star Eric Bana has dismissed reports he has signed a deal to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond as "crazy". The 35-year-old Australian actor was at the centre of a media frenzy last week when sources said producer Barbara Broccoli had offered Bana the part. But the Black Hawk Down star says he doesn't even want the coveted role - and has no idea where the story has come from. Bana fumes, "I've said like a million times I wouldn't do it. It's never, ever, ever been something we've had a discussion about. I haven't got a bloody clue where this all started."

Yea don't forget that before James Bond became 007 he was a Naval Officer in the Royal Navy.  I could see Orlando in that role as the age fits but not really as the Agent 007.

Out of luck Ben, I listened to an interview with him today and as far as he is concerned, he is DEFINITELY NOT playing Bond. Pity - I think he would be great. But Hugh Jackman has not ruled it out, so all hope is not lost... Cheesy He would be the PERFECT 007!!!

Fingers crossed

Well I guess it won't be Orlando, read this today on the IMDB:

But who really knows  Huh

Bana for Bond After All?

Australian actor Eric Bana has been approached to play James Bond but has yet to decide on whether to accept the coveted role, according to reports. The Hulk star recently slammed speculation he was poised to replace Pierce Brosnan in the legendary franchise, insisting he had never been approached by producer Barbara Broccoli. But an insider tells London's Evening Standard newspaper that Bana is trying to decide whether starring as the world's favorite super-spy will damage his burgeoning film career, or enhance it. A source says, "Eric has been offered the part of James Bond but is currently deciding whether it's something he really wants to sign up to." According to the Bond insider, both British star Clive Owen and Australia's Hugh Jackman are in line for the role should Bana turn it down.
