some news from the comic con from topps:
so far they have sent out for the autographs and king theoden and arwen have replied favorably. no news on the others yet.
chromabilia cards are better than the regular memorabilia cards.
no legolas, gimli, gollum, theoden, eomer or anything that has to do with armor. the reason? not too much to spare. with legolas and gimli, they were not given costumes to use...
gimli was offered to sign for two towers but declined. he was not offered for treebeard though. they are hoping that he will sign this time around.
regarding gandalf the white, ian mckellen did not return the card to topps. apparently, the 'sir' issue may not be the only issue since he has used 'sir' previously without any problems.
peter jackson's autograph should have been for the return of the king set but it took him about a year to sign and return the cards...
more as i remember them...

hi! yes i did attend comic-con...only for 2 days though...
it was crazy!!
day 1 for me was a friday and there were lines everywhere.
i won a raffle to meet and get a poster signed by keanu reeves for constantine. when i got there after a quartermile jog, on time, they were done and he was in the panel discussion which by then had closed up.
i had the three guys from alias) sign a poster of Alias, too bad jennifer garner wasnt there...
the sideshow booth was outstanding and the newline booth had about a dozen original costumes on display.
richard taylor was a no-show because he was sick.
the starwars booth was 5 times the size of the lord of the rings pavilion complete with x-wing fighters, props, cards, toys, raffles etc...
there were people in costume everywhere...
they were previewing movies coming out soon all the way til next summer: blade trinity, batman begins, constantine, and of course rotk EE, the incredibles...
very exhausting to walk just from one end of the exhibit hall to the other.
lined up at 3:30- for the newline presentation (blade trinity, and rotk) i was outside the convention center about 1/6 of a mile onto the street by a traffic light!! and the show starts at 5:30 and ended at 7:30. as you know the show was fantastic. the panelsand movie showings were up to 2am!!! on that second day (first day for me)
what they did not say on all the news were the tales from billy and david wenham...

i will try again for next year. eating lunch at 4pm while in line, lugging a big bag of statues (which i had signed) and waiting for a must see show to start definitely contributes to a headache.
the crowds were bad. you couldnt even walk 5 paces before avoiding people-esp saturday!
all in all, >80,000 attendees!

Yea Roz that would be so cool but unfortunately I live on the other side of the country from where this is held. New Hampshire is 3,000 miles away from San Diego, California.  |

hi Ed!
as i am a comicbook geek, i have recently started looking at the cons to find out which ones any lotr stars will be in. last year in chicago, sean astin was there for 3 days! there is the dragon con in atlanta but its mostly gaming i think but sala baker is there, i hear.
wizardworld in chicago is aug13-15. dallas is in november. will check on when the philly show is. there is the new york toy and collectible show this summer.
and if you havent, the boston exhibit would be great hunting ground. my wife and i might go if we can get my sister in law to fly up and we get to escape for a weekend.

Yea I already have my tickets to the LOTR's Exhibition in Boston. It starts August 1st and runs through mid October. I purchased tickets for the first slot at 9:00 A.M. on Sunday August 9th. This way I won't have to fight traffic going into Boston on a work day.

Thanks Roz or Mark for fixing the Museum of Science link! The chromobilia cards are a better quality card than the regular edition cards we have from The Fellowship through Return of the King. The costume or clothing will be of the same quality as in past clothing/costume cards. |
