Family History - Who do you think you are, Yak style

I was wondering if anyone has done any family history research and if they have found anything of interest.

I have been propeted to get back to mine after watching who do you think you are admittedly. Although I had done a lot a few years ago, I seem to have lost the file no matter how are I look I have lost my Scottish side somewhere. Luckily I printed off some certificates so I have something to go from. If any one is interested and they have any Scottish roots they have a great website www.scotlandspeople.co.uk which is really helpful.

I've just noticed when keying it in again ( ) that no wonder my Grandma knew she would die in January, her mother died on the 2nd her sister on the 5th (also my birthday  ) and she died on the 6th obviously not the same year or that would have been really bad  Also my great grand mother was born 1896 and died 1986 all the same numbers just rearranaged.

Its a very interesting hobby if you are thinking about it, the internet makes it a lot easier than it used to be as well as family tree computer programes. Although it can be annoying when you hit a dead end

I've always wondered...but never investigated this!!
I really need to though! 
About 10 years (or so) ago, one of my husbands 2nd or 3rd cousins
renovated an old home down in Denver. When he was finished, he
had an "Open House" for all to see!! It was a real big deal...it was
in the papers even!! (But thats another story) Anyway, my husband
and I were admiring the home and came across a old portrait hanging
on the wall. The man had the last name of my husbands family, and
the woman had my maiden last name!!!! Now wouldn't that be
something!!! I guess I've always wondered, but too chicken to
find out the truth! 
One of these days, I'll really get into this...not for this particular
reason, but just to have.

That is really cool  Your families could link in some way, although obviously not close enough to be dodgey lol. My dad saw in a book once a royal wedding and there names were mum's and dad's name now I think its very unlikely we have blue blood

My mother has traced my grandfathers (her dad) side back to Germany.  Also, a relative from that line, Conrad Henninger, served as a private in the American revolution.  I've thought about joining the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), but i've never gotten around to it.
On my grandmothers (moms mother) side we are mostly from Ireland.  They came to America during the potato famine.
My husbands family is from Italy, but that's not too hard to trace since both sets of his grandparents immigrated. 
It's really cool about all the stuff my mom has collected.  Marrage certificates, birth records, military service records, pension records, she even has the names of the boats that our families came over on. 
If you live in the US (or maybe even overseas) you can get a lot of info from the morman church.  They are really into geneology.  Apparently they think they need to pray dead relatives into heaven, so they have a HUGE data base in Salt Lake City so people can find out where they came from.  You don't have to be morman to use it.  I think they've put a lot of the info online.

Well then you'd have to link Thomas into there too but don't forget there are more than 80 million Germans living in Germany alone (and loads of ex-pats scattered about the place)

With the Henninger last name we thought that maybe we were related to the owners of the German beer company, but alas, no.

I seem to remember that we had undertakers and grave diggers in the family as well. At last - a Buffy connection
