Well this won't help much but I found it on the IMDb:

As Ron, Harry and Hermione are talking in the great hall, before George and Fred attempt to enter their names in the Goblet, Hermione is reading a book. We can't see the title, but the cover features the harlequin pattern of the UK editions of the Harry Potter novels.

Wow.  Interesting...my mind is certainly racing on that one.  Nice find, Sharon!

That's a good shot.  It's a shame it's so dark in the Great Hall, but you can get a pretty good look at some drawings and coloring on the book.   Thanks, Mike!

That is the best picture I have seen of the book Mike, well done  Grin.  You can make out some of the card swatches but I still have no idea what the book is  Undecided.  But at least you can see it has a slip cover, hence the thin, paper like swatches.

My pleasure Grin

In the movie when she crosses her legs (the picture posted) the middle of the cover shines gold which explains some of the swatches.

just popped the DVD in for a moment and slowed it down and zoomed it.
The Title

      IS
 LIKE THIS
      IN
THE CENTER

and the dragon design is going around and through the letters and the "mermaid" hand is the person riding the dragon.

I was hoping someone could help decifer the text on my book prop.  The scan is much duller than the lettering which is a nice shiny Gold.

Could be "diets" - the book that comes to mind was the dragon diet book from Philosophers Stone...
