Yea Ed I have seen the Army boxes!  They are expensive!  I am looking for the boxed set for the Army of the Dead.  I have a few blisters of them but have not been able to find the box set.  I don't have Shelob yet.  The Mumakil are going to be so impressive!  Imagine the cool scenes you can create with those!   Cool

I bet they will be doing "Grond" some time.  That one would look way cool with your Minas Tirith set as it tries to smash down the front gates!

Ed:

Thanks for the outstanding links to GamesWorkshop!  What a great lineup and I feel my wallet getting lighter every second!!   Smiley

I have not seen any of the images until you posted the links Ed - again outstanding.  What a great bunch of painters they have.  Thank you for your offer of picking me up a boxed set of the Army of the Dead.  If I can't get one before you go I will email you and take you up on your offer.  Thanks.

How detailed do you get when painting your figures?  I try to go all the way with detailed face painting, clothing and weapons plus the base.

glad i know of someone now who's as involved in GW as i am, maybe much more!!

yes i try to be as detailed as possible too. did the fellowship and i'm highlighting the faces again to get better color and detail. any imperfections i find again and think i can improve on i try to do but with demands of the kids, it takes time (sometimes i paint while i feed the kids dinner).. i also do the bases with sand and flock. i need to learn more about highlighting and shadowing...

practice makes perfect...if you conquer frustration.

no prob. let me know. i'll be going on the 13th of august. anything else you may need or want, i can get for you there.

have you tried the Battle Games in Middle Earth magazine?

its a european publication (also avail in australia) by deAgostini. Battle Games in Middle Earth is a magazine that describes the game, how to play,  making terrain, how to paint...it also comes with a free figure or paint per issue. it is fortnightly (biweekly) and should run for 65 issues thought it may extend to 72 issues. it is now on issue 37. australia is on issue #12. it costs about 5.99GBP per issue.

they do offer back issues! however they charge GBP4.00 per issue to ship overseas!! i called them up direct, ordered back issues to be shipped to a UK address and then to the US. Alternatively, you can order from BattleGames by Mail - shipping is also expensive (and they also charge per issue shipped though they will ship it in one go)...

i do have extras of issue #1-9 but no figures. i thought i'd try them out and i liked the terrain and the painting lessons thought they are quite simplistic.

where do you get any painting guide/advice-or do you need any?

I really do not need any advise or guides as I have been painting military figures, aircraft, ships, armored vehicles for over 40 years now.  I have two  friends who are Master Modeler's and have won numerous Gold Medals for their painting of military figures in competitions and they have given me many tips over the years.   Smiley

Thanks for the info.   Smiley

wow!! then painting these should be a breeze!! apart from the models, and the cool look of the magazine, you may not need them at all...

Hi Ed:

Thanks for your private email as well but I am all set.  Did you pick up the items you were telling me about and if so how do they look?

Any info from GW about any new pieces?

yup, impressive boxes, yet daunting for a novice like me...

have started priming some of the horses so i can do the rohan warriors and complete helms deep. or maybe i should just do the fotr scenes first with weathertop or amon-hen or sauron..

decisions, decisions...

i know the knights of dol amroth are really colorful (white and blue!) and i love the standard bearers (rohan, minas tirith and elven).

post some pics of your figures! would love to see them.

Hi Ed:

I will post some pictures when I unpack.  We have a new house here and so much is still packed away including all of my painted figures.  When I find that box I will let you know.
