"Todd and I were also on hand this weekend as New Line finally revealed more details about the forthcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Special Extended DVD Edition (currently set to street in December - date TBA). The set will feature more than 50 additional minutes of footage, including some 300 additional effect shots. Among the new scenes we were able to preview this weekend were: the final confrontation between Gandalf and Sarumon at Isengard, the "mouth" of Sauron at the Black Gate, Aragorn revealing the sword Anduril to Sauron's eye in the Seeing-stone, the confrontation between the Witch King and Gandalf at Minas Tirith, more battle footage on the Pelennor fields, Frodo and Sam marching with Sauron's forces disguised as Orcs, Faramir telling Denethor that he would never use the power of the Ring, Aragorn looking down upon a fleet of Corsair ships from a ridgetop, Faramir and Éowyn at the House of Healing, Merry pledging allegiance to King Theoden at Gondor, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli narrowly escaping an avalanche of skulls deep inside the Dwimorberg and MUCH more. From what we've seen, this final extended cut promises to be every bit as good as the previous two. We also learned that the set will feature more than 20 hours of supplemental content.

That's not all. In addition to the 4 disc set, there will also be another special collector's gift set, that will include the 4-disc Extended Edition along with a bonus DVD - Howard Shore: Creating the Lord of the Rings Symphony - A Composer's Journey Through Middle-earth - and a miniature Sideshow/Weta statue of Minas Tirith, which doubles as a trinket box. Todd took some photos of the DVD packaging, so we'll get those posted as soon as we can."

Sounds fantastic - I have never bought the collectors edition set with the Smeagol statue/Kings of Gondor bookends - only the 4 disc extended set, but I think I will this time - the Minis Tirith statue sounds fantastic!!! Not to mention the extra scenes! Shocked

i liked it too!!! too bad about the beacon that they couldnt include it. mary mclachlan, the sculptor, explained to me that it would be too difficult as there would be a path behind the tower, leading to the mountain to where the beacons were. i joked about the trebuchets and i was surprised that she thought about it and wanted to include them!!

oops, forgot...

she related that it had to be that small 1:400 scale as the actual model had the tower, just the tower at over 4 feet tall!! that is also the reason why minas tirith is not included in the traveling exhibit!!

Makes sense Ed.  Thanks for the info.  I wish I had talent like that.  I saw in one of my books how GamesWorkshop Designers make a wonderful Helm's Deep fortress out of several kinds of material.  It was huge by comparison because they used their current line of LOTR's figures with it.   Smiley

Ed, you can actually go to: www.thelastalliance.com to see what to do with the GW stuff!

that is what's preoccupying me currently. painting the miniatures and reenacting the various scenes! pretty tedious but rewarding when you see your work done!

plus it is time consuming so i dont get to obsess on other lotr purchases.

I know what you mean Ed.  I have been collecting all of the GW LOTR's figures and sets since The Fellowship was released.  I have only painted a few figures so far, Aragorn at Helm's Deep, Gamling, and Aragorn on Brego.  I have their Helm's Deep fortress but not Minas Tirith yet.  I am collecting all the figures to someday display in lighted curio cabinets.

GW has done a great job on all of the figures.  I am amazed at the detail in such a small figure of only an inch or two in size for the human and hobbit figures.  The larger sized figures, The Balrog, Fell Beast, and Trolls are so detailed as well.  Money well spent on these definately.   Smiley

Do you have all the figures released to date?
