Just found out I'm being sent to Las Vegas in a few weeks time and I've never even been to America!
So I really want to make the most of any free time I get.

Can anyone give me any hints and tips.

Must see this, must do that, must try them.......anything like that would be most appreciated.

And of course are there any recommended CARD shops

DO NOT just lay a $100 bill on a game table expecting the dealer to assume you need change!
The dealer wil play it!
You will loose that $100 in a second, or at least we did! 

There is so much to see these days!! 
We liked New York, New York's roller coaster ride.

The water and light show out the front of the Belagio (sp?). The Volcano outside the one hotel.
The Pirate show outside the other hotel.

Also, shopping in most of the hotels is fun! 
If you like epensive desigener stuff, there is Gucci, Prada LV etc etc.
Also, there are nice restraunts, and Jewellery places like Tiffany's.

I was in Vegas once, about five years ago, and had an absolute blast!  Just walking around and taking in all the sights is enough excitement to fill a whole week!

My recommendations, from what I can remember.....

- At least walk into as many hotels on the strip as you can.  Each one has a unique character and charm to it.  It is almost like walking from one world to another.  I especially liked Caeser's and Paris.  They both have the overhead "sky" that changes to imitate the appearence of being outside.  I know a new, very nice hotel was recently constructed....but I can't recall the name

- Watch Ocean's 11 (either version) to get you in the mood

- This one is fun - as your plane arrives in Vegas, be sure to keep an eye on the window.  As we flew over vegas, our plane dipped one wing as it turned to face the landing strip, this provided an amazing view of the strip.  Especially if you fly in at night, the lights along the strip are breathtaking.

- Don't wonder too far from the strip....the surrounding area deteriorates quickly!

- As fas as shows go, book way ahead of time if you want to catch the best acts. We didn't, so we watched a few smaller acts.  Still a ton of fun.

- Be prepared for LINES of smut peddlers outside the hotels on the street. These guys just line up and hand out "Censored" pornography.  Just a heads up not to grab for the free "newspapers" if you are offered one.

By the way, may I ask what hotel you are planning on staying in?

And I don't feel in the least bit sorry for you   .  You are going to Las Vegas  .  As someone who has never been but knows people who have I would recommend the you have a look at the hotel that looks like a pyramid.  Apparently the lifts go sort of sideways.  Oh and the Star Trek ride (if it is still there).

I bet you will have a brilliant time.  Full reports will be expected

I always find that I can get a lot done in an evening when I'm abroad with work. And it's rather nice to walk around a city at night to get a feel for it - the only snag is that it's so far south it's likely to get dark pretty early - even at the end of summer, and so you'll see it in the dark this shouldn't be too much of a problem as it appears that they like their flashing lights

I went to Vegas a couple of years ago. I LOVED THE STAR TREK EXPERIENCE. I think they may be re-doing that ride, but it's a blast, plus they have a great museum at the Las Vegas Hilton, which is slightly off the main strip.  The roller-coaster at NY NY is Fun and scary.  My favorite buffet was at the Paris Hotel.  The Venetian Hotel is stunning and has a gondolier ride, which is fun.  Mandalay Bay is a beautiful hotel.  The Elvis Museum is cheesy(as expected), but if you like Elvis you may have fun. There's also a Liberace museum, but I haven't been to that.  Another fun thing to do is take an excursion to the HOOVER DAM. Beautiful, and I think excursions to the Grand Canyon are available, although I haven't gone.  Trust me though, you won't be bored!

If I'm not mistaken then,  You're slightly off the strip but still very close.  The Stardust is kind of a run down hotel if I remember correctly, and the convention center(I THINK) is by the LV HILTON.

Turned 21 in Vegas in Caesers Palace was proper Bo, went down the casino at midnight and got ID'd straight away by a waitress then she gave me free drinks for the rest of the night/morning Sound!
