Aussie reviews arent looking too favourable, 1 1/2 to 2 stars, but they did give the first movie a "dog" (ie complete crap, lower than 1 star) so I dont tend to trust them too much....

Go to your cinemas people, its fantastic. Not really for kiddies though. Keith Richards is brilliant as Capn Jacks dad, and i can't say much else without spoilers.

It is great! A little strange in parts (youll know what I mean when you see it). Keith Richards was pretty awesome (someone in my cinema yelled "go keith" when he appeared on screen  ).

No only is it not really for the kiddies (a little too complicated) but the ads they showed before hand were waaaaay too mature (pole dancing anyone?  )

Well at least I got to see the theatrical trailer for OotP before the start of the film when I went to the first showing this morning!
[The rest of the trailers weren't too bad ... Surf's Up, The Simpsons, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer and the new Transformers film ... now I know the young jedi is absolutely itching to go and see that particular film as he's a big fan of the animated versions from several years ago (yes, more videos that got played relentlessly!), but I want to see what certification that one gets before saying 'yes' to it - I thought it looked quite violent ...]

POTC3 got a 12A certification here and I have to say I agree with it - IMHO it's definitely NOT suitable viewing for under-10's even with parental supervision - I don't want to say too much as I don't want to spoil it for others, but yeah I know what you mean Kate ... it made me wonder if certain parties had been ingesting strange substances to come up with those scenes!
Hee hee Keith Richards - such a waste, they should've given him a much bigger part cos he fit the pirate role to a 'T'!!
Oh and I stopped and sat through all the end credits and saw the Epilogue (for want of a better term)
On the whole, this film didn't grab my attention nearly half as well as the first one did ... the running time went to almost 2 hours (my backside was going numb) and there was a heck of a lot of ground (and water) covered in a short space of time during the later half of the film, with a lot of chopping and changing so it seemed rather disjointed to me ... some parts dragged and others seemed rushed ... I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and say that a second viewing might be necessary - there's a LOT of info and the imagery is very rich and detailed, so you miss bits as you're trying to keep up. LOL
The reviews haven't been too good here either, but I don't doubt that with the Bank Holiday weekend almost upon us and the kids on holiday from school, that the cinemas will be very busy.
I was more interested in the Potter display stand and posters in the foyer than anything else ... OotP can't come soon enough for me.

Much as I hate to say it, I must confess myself very disappointed. There were too many loose ends for the (puprtedly) last movie of the trilogy, although it might not all be Jerry Bruckheimer's fault. Although he said that this was always meant to be the last film, apparently the big bosses at Disney want the series left open so they can continue to milk the franchise for all its worth.

The end was way to inconclusive and begged for more closure. Although Johnny Depp DID say he was happy to do another movie, I'm not sure if that will happen.

I kind of liked the ending to be honest; Jack left pretty much exactly as he arrived

I loved the scene where the rest of the crew see the Black Pearl and how he appeared on THAT exactly the same way he first appeared, EVER.

You're right of course Jo ... I made sure to look at my watch as the opening credits rolled ... 11:15am and again once the epilogue finished ... 14:15 ... I can't count!
I'm glad I'm not the only person who found it disjointed ... perhaps the continuity and editing could've been better?
I noticed a very brash ad for ToyRUs prior to the film starting, flogging all the POTC3 merchandise ... I feel very sorry for parents of much younger children ... they'll be pestered to death before they get back to the car park!!

I'll be going to see it again to pick up on all the small details i no doubt missed the first time round. Is the after credits scene worth staying for? I was a bit disappointed with the scene at the end of POTC2, having waited through the credits with the cinema staff doing their best to get rid of me so they could clean!

Well I thought it was good but not great.  I agree with what everyone else has said about the bitty nature of the film.  Boggy was asleep by about 20 minutes in but after nipping out for a hot dog he revived and made it to the end.  I actually liked the ending, particularly what they did with Will.

Jules whilst you are right about it not being suitable for young children, as it has a 12a I am sure there will be many 5 year olds sitting bored witless through this film - after seeing parents with toddlers in Spiderman 3 I think the brains of the movie going parents in Essex is completely addled.

Oh and we didn't get a very long OotP preview but they did show a clip of the sequel to Bruce Almighty which just looks so funy

Well, being the die-hard Pirate fanatic that I am...I have to say the I liked it.
There was a lot of info to absorb...and I'm confused about some things.
I had a hard time knowing who was on what side! 
I'll be seeing it again on Sunday (because hubby and my oldest were not
here to see last night) so maybe I'll get some questions answered! 

I have to agree with Kate on the ending...loved it....going out the way he came in! 
But I think there would have to be another movie...too many strings untied...I think! 

We had no previews of OOTP!  Just other Disney movies. 

A sequel to Bruce Almighty!!!! Right on!!! I can't wait!!

I agree with you 100%, Jo!!!  So do you think that if there is another,
that Will is completely out?

I read an article that said that the third movie would be killing off a character that was of the least value to the story but cost the most money in terms of actor's fees - they of course meant Will. Although I do love his character, it's true. So we may not see Will in the fourth movie... although I hope not

Least valuable??? I consider him part of the main three characters....

So a potential fourth movie is more likely to follow Jack, and possibly exclude any Will/Elizabeth story (based on the ending of the third film)...

That's very likely since Keira Knightley has said that she will not return for a fourth film, at least that is what they are reporting. Apparently she said that she has been playing Elizabeth since she was in her teens and wants to move on to other projects. 

So, if they are planning a fourth Pirates, it may just follow Jack and start a whole new storyline.
