I don't know why it's going for more than the official topps autographs but it's a big fat fake autograph

(ha no one can tell me off - this is MY FORUM NOW Muahahahahaha)

Has anyone managed to get any kind of info on Omniversaltrader's auctions? I used to believe his "I got them signed at the ROTK premiere in NZ" for a couple of weeks after the premiere... somehow I don't believe he managed to get 500 autographs from each actor whilst in a queue at the premiere!

FAKE, FAKE, FAKE Grin what are you gonna do about this omni? Get the big scary lawyer threat out? And anyways what is he gonna sue me about, turning you guys off his auctions? I'm sure you would have been sooo tempted Wink I can't even make out any of those letters

I emailed Roz about this already, but I'll tell everyone else as well. For those of you who are on the Topps board, you may remember the omniversaltrader thread that lead to legal action threats etc. Roll Eyes A few days ago I was looking for an Elrond costume card and bid on one at ebay - didn't really notice the seller name as FB was good, payment and shipping options ok. I got a message back after my bid saying that the seller had blocked me from bidding on his auctions. It was then I looked properly at the selller's name... our favourite LOTR auto seller! I thought it was quite amusing - boy can he hold a grudge, not that I care of course. Plenty of those cards out there!

As for the 'exclusive signings' he got - remember those explanations? How they used to sit for a couple of hors before the premieres and sign hundreds of cards just for him which I always thought was plain BS - we know that Viggo for one doesn't like his autos on ebay - and that is why he personalises alot of his autos. SO would he really have sat down and signed 200 of these cards for a person who was going to put them there? And you try and get Orlando to sign something these days... Tongue

The winning bidder was a newbie... guess that explains the high price Embarrassed I got my Topps Faramir for half that. Ironic that fakes sell for more than authentic cards.

I hate to admit it but I fell for this guy's pitch when he first came on eBay.  I purchased 7 supposed Viggo signed Aragorn cards, 2 Gandalf, and 2 Boromir ones!  I compared these signed cards to my Topps ones and they looked good to me.

Now from what I am reading here I feel like an idiot!   Tongue

Don't!

I can't remember why I saw it but I noticed you were biddine on omniversal's stuff! That's why we emailed him to ask him and he was polite and explained he had got them done at the premiere. His story and the fact that Viggo's rune like signature was very convincingly done took me in too so I didn't mention it to you!

However, I look now and see the sheer number he's been selling and think...??

Even when I go to the Collectormania events I sometimes feel embarassed when I get more than one auto - like it's greedy, which is why I always get them personalised. I am often "Ed" at these conventions whilst Roz gets them for "Rosalind and Mark". And in this situation we are PAYING for the autographs. When you are in a Premiere crowd, and everyone's pushing and shoving getting more than one per person would be impossible I am sure

I really appreciate the genuine LOTR's Autograph's you and Roz have secured for me at the several Collectormania shows you have been to.  Other than attending these shows in person or purchasing a Topps Auto card you cannot be sure if the autograph you purchase is real even if it comes with a certificate of authencity some of which look pretty bogus to boot!

I first heard the 'premiere signings' explanation in the legal threat Topps posting - needless to say, it certainly heightened my suspicions! Why, even if the stars did do mass signings, would they do it for the benefit of one individual seller (especially Viggo for eg) - why him in particular? Why is omni so special? Why not for charity or any of the other many professional autograph sellers out there?

Don't like it one bit Angry Tongue

Hi FTY:

Was Frank - the omniversal guy taken to task on the Topps board?  What was said and what was the outcome?

Did Topps do anything?

On the Topps board, one forum member posted a link to a signed Sean Astin LOTR decipher/base topps card with a comment about it being a bad example of his autograph. While not saying so in words, the tone of the post suggested that the autograph was a fake. Several board members made similar remarks - I have to say the auto was a pretty bad example of Sean's sig and really anyone could have grabbed a marker and scribbled it (especially if you have some idea of what the real autograph looked like). After a few days, omniversaltrader posted, well basically an essay, on the board citing his credibility, how he organised mass signings with the LOTR stars on his stacks of base cards which no-one else could get, his COAs etc, ending with a thinly veiled threat of legal action against the original poster of the post and potentially everyone else that agreed with him and posted as well (including yours truly). Needless to say, this got quite a few people annoyed, with many forum members posting angry replies to omni . We never heard from him again on the board (whether people were contacted off the board, I don't know). He stopped selling for a while during the fiasco, but soon started up again. We figure Topps either got a call from his lawyer, or most likely, got cold feet and got rid of the thread before anythig else happened.

Needless to say, he has blocked me from bidding on his auctions - sooo disappointed Grin

Or 'once burned, twice learned' is one I use. Don't worry, I fell for the authentic 8x10 autographed photos when I first started collecting. Then I visited the Topps forum, bought my first certified auto card and saw the light!
