2nd in command? PAH! I shall lead the revolution!!

Hi folks, I am on my second issue of NSU ever and it's really cool as it has pics of the costumes that were made into the HP costume cards - I'll scan them in and post them later Smiley

Anyway, I find the price lists that they have there very inaccurate, - they do say "this list doesn't include the dealer mark up" well if you don't get them from ebay or from a dealer where DO you get cards?

I think I saw something stupid like $40 for a Viggo TT auto! Ha - I'll give them $40 to get me one!

So since I don't know anywhere to get reliable prices apart from ebay, what about we set up our own price logging system. If you see an auction end, you type in data such as the end date, auction number and end price. We can log that info and as time goes on we could show trends of whether autos are increasing in prices or lowering.

Depending on how popular it is or how many inputs we get we could show a "current" price for cards based on the last 4 inputted sales or so. What do you think?

Would you be prepared to help out by inputting this data? I was thinking we could have a counter for howmany each member has inputted and the leader each month gets a small prize as a thank you for all their patience. Would that make sense?

Any suggestions? I think we will program it in PhP (by we I mean - Mark!) what do you say folks...

ahem - sorry

WHAT SAY YOU?

Once we have done the programming all we will need to do to extend it to other sets will be to have a card list (it will be as easy as pie basically).

So really we will make pages for as many sets as you folk are able to keep in your ebay watch list (I can only keep 100 things in my ebay watch list but between us we should get a good cross section of auctions.

Of course it will be more effective if we can start this from when the set originally started out but we can certainly do retrospective sets Smiley it's just our data will be incomplete, but it will be good enough to give us a general idea.

Searching completed options is a winner... unfortunately it only goes back to 30 days I think it is.

Yeah that's true but it takes a lot of effort, whereas we will have a nice long standing average and also recent averages and they can look up prices of all the cards quite quickley without having to type each in to ebay.

Do you think it's worthwhile or should everyone just rely on completed items? For me no peartrees come up or any TTU Boromirs so it would be hard to know what to pay for one of those if they came up tomorrow if you were new to the "sport"  Grin

I think this is a great idea. Ebay completed items only go back 30 days so imagine if we had a database that could span months and eventually years!!

The only thing is that it takes a lot of work to look up each autograph and track it.  My suggestion would be to get volunteers assigned to tracking a particular group of cards, say I would monitor all Frodo and Sam autos. Then every 2 weeks, the data would be entered into a database and voila! In a few years we would be able to make all kinds of nifty graphs and such.

Of course if you want the current price of every card you just have to ask on the Topps boards. There are freaks out there who track every single card  Tongue

That's actually a good idea. I was worried about people going to the effort of putting cards in only to find that they had already been entered... Ithink (even including HP cards) we have enough willing members so that each member can have just one or two cards to track and I am sure they could change their choice of cards as some members will get fed up and "retire" Smiley

Worth a go - right I'll get Mark cracking on the program then, he's web designing for the yak shack for the next 2 weeks so it will be on his to do list

Actually chaps, the info stays online a lot longer than 30 days

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2236971004

is an example.

There's a fine example of tracking for Weta LOTR goodies here

http://www.perspectivevirtual.com/weta/tracking/

Hope this is of some use  Smiley

Roz,

I was tracking a lot of the HP card prices in July, I only have the end date, the amount they reached and the start price for any that did not sell. If you want the info just let me know.

Great Idea, We probably are all on Ebay looking up HP and LOTR all the time anyway.

as for NSU price guide, we never use it, usually we can tell by what they are going for on Ebay and then go in between a couple of prices from there.
So do you want us to just send you emails or assign different things to different people??? Lets get this one started  Grin

Yep, if you could list the cards you will track I'll do the ones that are left over Smiley

Mark's been upgrading this site and is doing some freelance for his old empoyees (as well as his own job) but as soon as he gets a free couple of evenings he'll do it Smiley

Roz - I will get the list together and post in a separate post to see who else is interested in tracking the cards. A couple of thoughts on the information that might be useful to track.

Card Series (Eg POA, POA update etc)
Card Type (Auto, Costume, Prop, Chase etc)
Card Description
Card Number (where applicable)
Ebay Reference #
Ebay End Date
Ebay Price
Ebay Currency
Item Sold (Did it meet its reserve/ Any bids)
Local Sale (ie will on ship to country of origin)
