Pirate's Of The Caribbean 2 Trading Cards?

Morning All ,

Just wandering if there will be a any trading cards for this sequel as the film looks brilliant just like the 1st,and if not why doesn't a company pick up the rights for a set as I feel it would be a really cool set with autocards Depps being a level 1,and costumes cards would be great with swatches from the cast as well as chase and pre-production art cards as well as one off sketch cards.

What does anyone else think?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think Disney has ever put out a card set (at least one like that) for a single movie. They have their Disney Treasures set but...yeah
Also, if Disney WAS to do a set, I am pretty sure Upper Deck has the rights to make...and all of their non sport sets have been really REALLLLLY bad.

It is a great idea, especially since we know that Bloom and Depp are willing to sign cards, but I cannot see it happening.

It's a real shame I think as the potential of producing a really collectable set is there and the prop cards could be pieces of coins etc..

Let's be honest here, there's a set of trading card game cards for the PoTC movies out already, so I daresay it's the cheapskate non-sports companies rather than the inability of Disney to get anything sorted.

Well that's news to me Roz.  I have not seen what you are talking about in any store's.  Do you have any info on this you can post here?  Thanks.  You don't know Disney Roz - they are very difficult to deal with in any transaction you have with them.  I and the company I worked for did Engineering work for Disney for over 11 years while I was with them and Disney was a pain in the butt every step of the way no matter what we did.  As far as other non-sport companies being at fault I would say that is incorrect as Disney likes to handle everything themselves as far as their products and trademarks are concerned so I still fault Disney.  I would have to say that they were approached but turned down any offers.  I would be interested to see who put out the trading cards you speak of.

I don't know much about it but I just heard people talking about it. It's not as cool as the LOTRs sets Ed because the only cards I have seen feature art rather than movie images.

No, perhaps not like you do, but I know how agressive they were with the cinemas (theatres) that showed their pictures. Usually a cinema can choose what will go on the main/biggest screens and it makes sense to put whatever is most popular in the biggest screen with the best sound system etc... but Disney would demand the biggest screen for at least a week or the cinema would not receive the film reels, whether their release was half decent or not ... Mark used to moan about them a lot

Yes you and Mark would then know something of how Disney operates after your movie theater experiences with them.  I just looked at the link you provided for the Upper Deck Trading Card Game and I was not too impressed with what they put out.  You are correct in that there are no movie images but artwork cards.  It is a game system instead of a movie card set like we are used to so it is an entirely different animal.  I will pass on this one!

I asked Uncle Allan at Inkworks about PotC when the first movie came out  He said they had considered it, but passed when the studio could not guarantee any of the main 3 characters (Depp, Knightly, Bloom) would sign cards.

I know, Artbox did get Depp, but Depp also backed out of a signed deal to provide autos for Sleepy Hollow so I doubt Uncle Allan would trust him at all.

Sad but true, if you can't get main cast to sign for the set it's really not worth doing in today's marketplace.

I saw the card game at toy's-r-us yesterday.  The 2 player deck in a case, with a couple extra cards for $14.99.
