Just got back from seeing this one. I liked it very much as it follows Arthur as a boy into manhood and explains why he is where he is in the movie. It also develops the character of his Knight's. At the film's beginning it states the movie is based on new material uncovered about Arthur and that he lived about 1000 years before during the Dark Ages. I liked the battle sequences as they showed the tactics used during that time in history. The movie follows Arthur and his Knight's from their service in Britain under Roman rule to the birth of Britain as an independent nation. I don't want to give anything away so go and see the movie and tell me if you liked it or not.  The theater showed two trailers for upcoming films. The first one was for Aliens vrs Preditor coming out next month. Looks real cool with the battle between the two races going on here on Earth! They are using humans as bait and it said the winner gets Earth! Well we'll see about that!!  The second was for a film coming out at Thanksgiving here in the States called National Treasure with Nicholas Cage as a protector of some secret treasure that has been passed down through the ages. The key to this treasure is a map on the back of our Constitution!! Sean Bean of LOTR's fame is out to steal the Constitution and get the treasure and Cage finds out about this and has to steal it before Bean! Looks real good! |

One of the things I noticed in King Arthur was the way the men were grumbling about the weather there in Britain - I guess that is one thing that has not changed over time! Yea National Treasure looked good - one of the things they showed in the trailer was a clue on our currency specifically our One Dollar Bill. On the reverse side of the bill you see on the left a pyramid with an eye on top and that is one of the clues! Interesting. |

Just got back from this (it was released today in the UK) I really enjoyed it - Nice to see some very famous British TV faces on the big screen... why is it Welsh actors have the best voices ?? Ioan Gruffudd/ Lancelot rocks (he's been in every costume drama you can think of). ... and that Arthur lived about 1000 years before during the Dark Ages.
Why is it that it's called the "dark ages"? The Green "dark ages" is a time just before the classical era - a good 6-700 years before our "dark ages" - perhaps it's an archaeological/historical blank because in all fairness (apart from the enslavin' n' all) the Romans did a fair bit for the "civilizing" of the UK, one or two of our roads are on top of old roman roads etc (if you hit a straight road in Britain, given our undulating topography it's either an old war air landing strip or it's a Roman road  ) Just in case anyone here is not from the UK I'd like to point out that that was NOT stonehenge at the end of the movie, but a much smaller (but similar) sort of site. For a start Stonehenge is about 400 miles south of Hadrian's wall (which still stands today folks so go and see it - I'd love to myself one day, I have rarely ventured so far north, in fact I've only been to Scotland twice, once I travelled by air and once by sea, I'd love to go by land sometime oh and also stonehenge is not near the sea but scale that place up a little and you have an idea of what Stonehenge looks like - it's cool Brill movie, I enjoyed it! |

Hi Roz: I knew you and Mark would enjoy King Arthur! I was not familiar with many of the actors but I enjoyed all of their performances. The scenes of the fighting on the frozen lake was pretty cool. What parts of the movie interested you the most? I too want to visit Stonehenge, Hadrian's Wall (what an engineering feat!), definately Scotland, land of my forefathers. And please tell FTY how good Keira was with the bow & arrow. |

Showing now, but my flatmate who went for a trip to Thailand earlier this month bought a whole pile of DVDs for $3 each including King Arthur, so that saves me spending $12 on a ticket Yes, its bad I know, but I justify it by saying that I did not buy it I will be watching it tonight after I do some study first (evil university  ) and will let you know what I think! |

Well, i watched the Shrek 2 DVD and the only bad thing about it was that you could see the shadow of a person getting up and leaving their cinema seat and then later returning to it. i did not even notice the first time, only when my flatmate pointed it out later. Apart from that, the quality is very good - not as good as authentic DVDs of course. So to answer your question, I believe it was videoed in a cinema, making it illegal |

Hehe.. I think you can just about rule ANY DVD that you buy while it's still in the cinema as illegal... unless you live in the UK and import official DVDs of movies before they're even released in the cinema! (I'm thinking of Hellboy here...)

How can someone video tape a current movie? Don't other people around this person see what is going on? How about battery life for a camera, I did not think you would have battery power for over 2 plus hours depending on the movie?
Mark did you ever catch anyone doing this in your theater?

Saw it finally... don't start throwing things, but I was not that impressed. The actor who played Arthur was sort of wooden - not terrible, but not good. I was more impressed with Lancelot, I think someone said he was a Welsh actor - he was excellent (and rather good looking, I must say - yes, I can see you all rolling your eyes at me, but what can I say  ). I know I should not compare everything to LOTR, but whenever Lancelot pulled out his 2 fighting knives, I was reminded of Leggy's white knives . Keira was pretty good - she wasn't given much space to really show off her skills but was great in the time that was given to her. The battle scenes were done well though, I have to say. I am not too knowledgeable about that period in time and its been a while since I have read the story of King Arthur, so I can't say much more about that area. It was interesting how they removed the magical aspect of the story and changed the role of Merlin - not sure I liked it though. Ah well... Favourite lines of the movie: Lancelot: There is a large number of lonely men out there. Guinevere: Don't worry; I won't let them rape you. Yes Ed, I was rather impressed by Keira and her fiery arrows... But Legolas is still my archer of choice |

Although there is a rather dubious pic on the back of a base card in the ROTK U set with Bloom dressed as Legolas but wearing a bandana quite amusing since he's standing next to McKellen as far as I can remember. |
