Okay, I read some posts and am glad to see others that love these stupid cards as much as I do.  I am addicted and I also have been watching them on eBay and getting outbid on them as well.  I did buy 6 packs for $45 from a website, but after I bought them, they raised the price to $12.99 a pack, more than twice what I paid for them.

A couple questions:

For those of you who got some packs cheap ($1.99) where did you find them?  I am in NJ and they only have the retail packs here.  Was it a website?

Also, I see there is going to be an updated version coming out in October.  Can anyoen lead me in the right direction to where I can get info on these/  Like what kind of costume cards there will bem who will be selling them, etc......?  Thanks for all your help.  And glad to be a part of the HP craze.

I found my cheap packs by doing a truly extensive web search for trading card, sports card, comic book and collectibles shops.  I must have sent out 200-250 emails (there are many more shops than that, which you can find searching the Verizon and Yahoo online yellow pages, but I wanted to spend my money on the cards and not on long-distance phone calls).

Of those emails, only four shops had any hobby packs or boxes to sell.  One shop had boxes for $180.  One offered me a box for $72.  When I wrote back saying I wanted it and inquired about the shipping, he replied that he searched on the web, found the boxes were going for $120+ (at that time), and refused to sell to me.  The language that went through my head probably isn't allowed here!

But, I was able to purchase the last 12 packs from a shop in Nebraska about a month ago, and then the last 9 packs from a collectibles store in Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not done searching yet, so if I find anyone else with packs at reasonable prices, I'll let you know.  Good luck!

Hi, Thanks.  I just had someone sell me their last box from a shop in NY  for (I hope you are sitting down) $50.  He says they say costume cards and whatnot on the front of the box, but he gave me such conflicted info as we went back and forth, that for that price, I decided to buy it and see what I end up with.  I inally sent him a picture of each box, and he said it was the one I wanted so keep your fingers crossed for me. He also said he would refund me if it was not the right thing, so we shall see.  I just think it is too good to be true, but I had to chance it for that price.  I keep telling myself it must be the retail box so I don't get upset when it arrives.

From my talking back and forth with him (and the pics I sent), I think he discovered there were two different sets, but he did not change the price on me.  He is either pulling my chain or knows that he already quoted me a price and that's that.

KBMum- if you had that price in writing, he would have to sell it to you for that price.  It is basically like a written contract, isn't it?

If the price had been posted in an online store and I went through the process of purchasing it, then maybe he would have had to honor the price.  But since it was done by email and we hadn't started the actual purchase, I don't know that he was obligated to sell it to me or how I could have forced him to.  I kept the emails and suppose I could file a complaint with his state's attorney general's office, but he's probably all ready sold the box by now.  While I'm angry that I lost out on the box, I'm glad that jerk didn't get any of my business!  Wink

Let us know when you get your box!

I will let you know when I get it.  My whole thing was done on email as well.  Except, I used PayPal to pay him and bought their guarantee, so if he will not take it back, Paypal will for me.  I really kind of hope that the guy just has no clue what a hobby box really goes for and just screwed up with me.   ???I will be sure to let you guys know.  Unfortately I did not learn of the hobby version until about a month ago.  I wish I knew sooner.  At least I am ready for the next batch!!

Hey guys.  Got my box for $50 and it was the hobby version!!!  Inside, I got the ravenclaw box topper (they guy sent me a Slytherin one too).  I also got 3 inserts!!  In one pack, I got a Harry Robe (750) and a George Weasley Auto and a foil!!  In one pack!!  Then, in another, I got a Dervish and Banges Prop card.  Oh, and it was only missing three of the foils.  All others where in the box.  So not too bad for $50, although we didn't get any rare ones, I am still happy.  My husband was really hoping for Hermione's pink sweater though, so I am watching on eBay now.  And I want a George robe to go with his autograph.  I emailed the guy and asked for more, but he said he definitely had no more boxes or single packs left.  Bummer.

Congratulations!

I gather for each bos with 3 inserts in somewhere there's a dud - so I balance you out a bit Smiley

Well done. In my 3 insert box I got Dervish and Banges, George Weasley robe and a Sirius auto - but I had to plough my way through 3 dud boxes to get there - so you definitely win!

Thanks.  I thought it was a mistake when my husband pulled those two from one pack.  He was so excited about the costume that it took us both a second to realize the card underneasth that was the Auto.  I guess I should be really ahppy, even if they aren't the most rare of cards.  I must say, so far, I bought that box and 12 packs of cards.  I pulled out of that box, as you know, the dervish Banges Prop, the G Weasley Auto and Harry's robe.  From my other 12, I pulled Harry's t-shirt and Hermione's robe.  Now I need Hermione's pink shirt and George's costume to be completely satisfied.  I seem to never be able to get enough though.  It is highly addictive.
