The ad for Australia, which has been causing controversy around the world ("where the b....y hell are you?) is premiering in the US tonight It was briefly banned in the UK for the use of "the b word", and is now facing problems in canada for the use of "hell" If you want to see what all the fuss is about, check out LOST; apparently the Aussie tourism board have purchased a 30sec ad slot

I thought it was in trouble with Canada because it used an unbranded beer in the ad. That, apparently, is bad according to the Canadians.

according to Melbourne papers its due to the word hell...but maybe its both, who knows? just looked up the paper, its due to both "But unlike the British, who feigned offence at "bloody", the Canadians have objected to "hell". And they didn't like the friendly offer "We've bought you a beer" either. Under Canada's restrictions on alcohol advertising, ads cannot feature anyone enjoying alcohol. Full glasses are fine, but a half-empty glass apparently shows people drink the stuff" Either way I love the ad.

I think adverts in the UK have to be allowed to be shown at any time of day, and usually only swear words make it onto TV after 9pm, when the delicate ears of children are fast asleep and no longer in earshot. However, there's a "Sheila's Wheels" Australian style advert for car insurance that's so awful that I find it totally offensive http://www.visit4info.com/details.cfm?adid=28351

I actually haven't seen the ad...
Kate, did you see that ad for lamb (made by some comedian)? There was a big controversy about it as it touched on some delicate issues, but I thought it was quite funny.

I have to say I am thoroughly ashamed of the UK for objecting to this advert. If Ron can say bloody hell and p*** off in the Harry Potter films I can see no reason to object to this advert other than to make Britain look stupid. I know we have a watershed to stop offensive language but when they are allowing the Renault Megane advert I think this was just being petty. For the record I love Sheila's Wheels Definitely up there with Little Tiny Bill

lol - no - tiny little bill is annoying and cheesy in a cute way... What's the Renault Megane advert about <--- doesn't watch a great deal of TV Ok so you guys made me google for it http://www.wherethebloodyhellareyou.com.au/tvc/index.html#and it's not in the slightest bit offensive, for starters the "bloody hell" bit is in such a thick Aussie accent it's "bloody" easy to miss

I really like the ad...and I think its good that they have banned it, then un-banned it....it gives it more publicity

Certainly does...makes people wonder what they are not being shown, so they go looking for it. an article in the paper yesterday mentioned the number of times it has been downloaded from the website; most downloads were by Americans. So by banning it they made it more popular

Well guys I just saw this on the TV, looks like whatever they were reporting about it being banned here was wrong (it was complete with the 'where the bloody hell are you' at the end - I checked )

I think they're some of the better ads you see on the telly. The first time I saw one of them it made me laugh which is quite unusual cos I loathe TV advertising on the whole. The Renaut ad just makes me want to vomit every time I see it and chuck a brick through the back window of that horribly ugly car!! *shudders* ... nasty ...

I think the 'offensive' part is meant to be the words "bloody" and "hell"...some say that one is offensive whereas others are offended by the other word...so far though I think most of the bans have been lifted.
