Hi there i'm so glad i came upon this forum 

my daughter and i love LOTR and want to start collecting cards.

I have never seen these cards on here before and want to buy my dughter the evoultion base set fron Ebay.  what exactly are in the packs and how many cards per box?

Hi Jane and welcome, there are 24 packs per box (the box looks quite big because there's a slab of polystyrene at the bottom of the box), each pack contains 6 basic (green) character cards, there are 72 cards in this green set - you would usually get a full set in a box).

One pack in every 4 contains an orange subset (which is 20 cards in all, the evolution A set) and one in every 6 packs contains a stained glass card (pretty cool, not glass but nicely made from plastic... much nicer than previous cards in this style by other manufacturers). Lastly - and I think the odds are one every 12 packs - you get a blue foil card (12 cards in all - the Evolution B set).

Most boxes contain either one or two sketch cards too, which are rather fun...

Hello Jane, welcome to the Shack.   The Evolution box Roz described above is a Hobby box, the Retail box has the same contents as a hobby box except there's one Memorabilia card per box instead of one or two sketches.

One more thing.  The hobby boxes are sold at hobby/card/comic shops.  I don't have any in my area, so you might want to call around your city to see if anyone carries them.  The retail are sold at Wal-mart, Target or similar stores, but so far I've only seen this set at Wal-Mart.  To get a base set you would be better off buying from ebay or a Yak Shacker then trying to compile one from packs at $2-3 each.

LOL - I only mentioned it because since I started collecting the Memorabila cards first, before getting enrapt with the great sketch cards.
