Alright, I'm a newbie here and I really don't know much about the Error/Variant dilemma, so i thought i'd ask. I bought the following card a few days ago: http://www.theyakshack.co.uk/tradingcards/index.php?page=viewcard&card=91, for $8.50(Shipping included)..I received the card and it has glue in the lower right of the costume piece (about 1/8 of an inch). Seller offered to refund my money so I wanted to ask here before i sent it back..Is it worth keeping or should i get my money back? I recently started my collection (a very small one, which will probably include only Harry's and Draco's costume/autos) and both the guide and the forum have helped a lot already so Thanks!...

Hi Galea! Welcome to the Shack. I wouldn't consider this an error or a variant, it sounds more like poor workmanship when making the card. I would get the refund from the seller and send it back (make sure the seller reimburses you for the cost it will cost you to ship it back also). The seller can then send it back to Artbox and ask them for a replacement.

I agree with Anna. Normally I would say send it back to Artbox yourself. Occasionally they send a replacement card that's a varient or better than the one you sent in. Since this card has no varients, let the seller refund you instead.

Thanks for your help . Unfortunately, the seller will only refund what i paid and i would have to pay for shipping it back to him. Sending it back so it can arrive as "safely" as he suggests will probably cost me $2-$3 and the winning bid was $5.50 so it's still a bit unfair to me. And I'm not sure i'll find that card again at that price .

Try emailing Artbox to see if they will send you a replacement. They should if they have any left. http://www.artboxent.com/I wouldn't give the seller very good feedback for the transaction though.

An error card could have the wrong swatch. For instance, the picture on the card could show one actor's shirt, but the swatch would be from a different character's costume.

A rare error, as seem on one Rosemerta costume, an error in the number on the back. It was numbered 298/250

That is unfortunate that the seller isnt accepting responsibility for his sale. Because this seems to be a factory defect, and not caused by the sellar or shipping methods, this seller knew about the problem before he started the auction. He did not note the condition of the card in the listing, and you should not be responsible for shipping as a buyer in this case. I agree, you should definetly leave below average feedback.
Hopefully Artbox will be able to help you out. But either way, welcome to the collecting game and to the Forum!

I had the same thing happen to me as well. I bought a set of 9 Costume cards. Paid a really fair price, too. Anyway three of the nine were with minor faults. I realised complaining to the seller was a waste of time. I just relisted them on ebay at give away starting prices of $.99 with full disclosure in detail of the exact nature of the cards. The three of them sold and the buyers know the whole story. Don't get me wrong, the cards were presentable but not up to my specs. Too bad the seller didn't mention the defects to me. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I saw a card that I wanted to buy to replace one of them at a higher price. I took no chances. I wrote to the seller and wouldn't you know it. It had a fault. THe fault was not mentioned in the listing description. Why do people do that. never mind, DUH!

I told him the same thing, it's unfair, and he's a power seller too, that's his business selling collectibles so he must have known beforehand and still sold it as an ok card. It's not such a big issue because the card isn't that expensive, but shipping the card back would cost me half of what i paid for it in the first place. I'm still trying to work this out with him, I don't like leaving negative feedback. But then again, he hasn't left positive feedback even when I paid immediately after the auction ended, and i've seen sellers that do that just to wait and see if the buyer leaves neg feedback so they can do the same (quite scary that), so i hope he's not doing that. I already emailed Artbox and they have replacements for this card so I guess that's the way to go if the seller won't help. Thanks for the warm welcome ^_^

This is the first time it happens to me (my collection's still a baby of 12 costume/prop cards) and the card i'm complaing about isn't rare or expensive. But in your case it sounds like they were and that makes it worse. I didn't know this happened frequently. Maybe it's just fear that noone will bid on them? or that they'll sell at too low a price for them?. Whatever it is, it's sad really .

My George Weasley retail had a little bit of glue, thank goodness I was able to get the tweezers and carefully remove it without damaging anything! I think it really depends on the card and damage. It theres a slightly bent corner or a little scratch or crease on the card thats only noticeable from some angle then I'm happy. As a matter of fact. My Harry First Task Robe incentive has a list crease in the right hand corner but I can only see it when I tilt the card back Oh, and welcome
