this question is maily for sellers but i suppose it appiles to anyone really. my question is how do i go about buying cases of cards and how much do they cost

You can buy a case from a dealer (there are several on the forum, for instance) and you can find cases on eBay. Prices vary by release, by how many boxes are included in the case (8, 10, or 12), and by whether the boxes are hobby or retail. Is there something in particular you want?

well i'm looking to start selling myself so i suppose i need to find whats popular but at the moment i would probably start with the likes of james bond dangerous liaisons as its quite new. i can find boxes on ebay uk but cant find cases but if i was to buy a case from ebay i dont think i would make any profit

If you want to sell cases and/or boxes, to make a profit you need to pre-order cases of a card set that hasn't been released yet. Since Dangerous Liaisons has already been released, the price you would pay for a case now is already marked up in price.  |

You wouldn't be able to buy directly from Rittenhouse. They may have a link on their site for Dealers they distribute to that you could contact, but someone else would better be able to point you in the right direction for that. I am not too sure since I never bought a case.

You can buy from the Rittenhouse website, but they charge prices higher than what you'd find with a dealer. It's their way of helping the dealers to stay in business, but still offer their product to people who have no other way to buy it. Your best bet is to contact a number of dealers and choose the one with the best pre-order price.

You would have a very tough time trying to be a dealer and make money unless you had a retail location (and even that is tough with all the overhead that brings). Many distributors require a retail location to buy directly from them at wholesale prices. Even if you bought product at presale prices you would be unlikely to be able to make much, if any profit (not even taking into account if you tried selling on ebay you will have some pretty big listing and selling fees + paypal fees out of your pocket).
I think sometimes when people see a product like LOTR Evolution of Harry Potter POA people think that you can make a lot of money selling cards, well that typically is not true at all, those are the exception to the rule. I believe Harry Potter POA Update even ended up putting a lot of longtime dealers out of business because it was such a bad product (with a couple really rare and good cards) that was over produced with about 2,500 cases. If you searched ebay you could find tons of boxes and cases of cards that are at prices well below there original release prices and the seller is losing money or bought it at close out and trying to make a couple of bucks.
I don't want to discourage you from something you might be interested in, but you really need to talk to a long time dealer, most of us are collectors with some spare selling or trading. If it was easy to make money doing it, everyone would be.
If you have $10,000 (for example) to do something with and want to make money you would be better off picking 3 stocks and letting it ride.

well I am a part time dealer as I do have a real job too.
but I run it as a small business from home
If you are serious about becoming a UK dealer then you would need to register as self employed and the easiest waty is to buy from a wholesaler there is only one in the UK and that is cards inc.
Otherwise if you are just looking for the odd case now and again and selling your spares then there are a few UK dealers that I am sure will be able to help you out.
But for best prices on cases you reallt need to pre order in most cases before release

Yes and in the UK you really have to buy 15-25 cases for it to be economic through Cards Inc... I think it would be best for you to befriend a dealer and see what sort of prices on a single case they could do for you, and I agree with the people here, you need to be thinking about a set and discussing it with your dealer a month or so before release.

And some sets are released with the collector and or dealer having little information to go on when making a purchasing decision (ie. Evolution, GOFU, etc)
I think most peoples ideal job would be not to have to work at all.

well I am a full time teacher and My wife and I run the business at evenings and weekends and it is a lot of work
we sell a lot on ebay and do shows too
We will be at memorabilia in a few weeks

It's a show where you can get all sorts of bits and pieces, mostly trading cards and associated movie paraphernalia. It takes place at the NEC three times per year - there's usually about a dozen card dealers and it's a good chance to pick up cases and view lots of stunning variants. so if they sell cases i assume they sell by the box lol.i won an auction for a box of james bond 40th ann on saturday got it for £37 with postage included i was just wondering if that was a good price as i have seen other people sell boxes for £60+ and i thought that might of been overpriced
