This is on on ITV on Thursday evening. I obviously haven't seen any episodes but it looks like X files meets 24 meets Star Trek
(but all based in science, not scifi)and it looks really good. I hope that the Patrick Stewart mark of approval doesn't let me down

Eleventh Hour is a four part television series being developed with Granada Television for ITV by writer Stephen Gallagher. It will follow the adventures of Professor Alan Hood (played by Patrick Stewart), Special Advisor to the government's Joint Sciences Committee, who troubleshoots threats stemming from or targeting "scientific endeavour". He is joined by Rachel Young (Ashley Jensen), a Special Branch operative who acts as his bodyguard and assistant. Each episode will be 90 minutes long, making the programme more a series of telemovies than a usual series.
While Eleventh Hour has only been in pre-production since April 2005, it has already raised considerable interest and media attention, both because of Stewart's involvement and the amount of money ITV is spending on it (reportedly around 4.5 million pounds). It is already being called "ITV's answer to Doctor Who", based on the latter's recent successful return (out-rating even ITV's big Saturday night drawcard, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway) and superficial similarities between the programs (especially the Jon Pertwee era, when the Doctor was based on Earth as a "scientific advisor" to UNIT), though those involved with the programme are trying to avoid this label. Stephen Gallagher has also made the distinction that Eleventh Hour will be "science-based", not science fiction or speculative fiction.
