I just received by Non Sport Update and do I have some good news for everyone!

According to the magazine...
""At the time, Mike Simon has just begun to anounce the autograph line-up including: Celemence Poesy (Fleur), Katie Leung (Cho), and Daniel Radcliffe himself. And the only two costumes anounced were a death eaters costume AND .... get this .... LORD VOLDEMORT!!!" he also PROMISES other "Top secret items which will be extremly rare"

Wow! That is ACTUALLY some good news coming out of Artbox for a change!

We need a DP and some more of the teachers costumes.  I would also like to see some Yule Ball costumes (don't care who's).  I think there willbe some really nice cards in this set.  Now, to determine how many to get.  I wish we knew the case number run, but I guess it still is too soon.  We should be happy to have any info at all at this point.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but do you think they are releasing info so soon because they want people to get in a buying frenzy like POAU?  I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to find boxes/cases that I ordered 5 from one source the first day they were available for preorder.  Then the rumors of allocation started flying and I ordered 2 more from another source thinking I would be covered if I got shorted on my first order.  Then I upped my order another case (for 5 from one source and 3 from another). Then we heard about the Triple, and the three big auto's and the dual auto and I ordered 2 more cases.  So a grand total of 10 cases as I was freaking out that I would have to pay $1050 for a case like I did for my case of POA. 

Obviously my strategy backfired and that was a pretty big hole in the old bank account.  The worst part was all the info ahead of time we were given seemed to indicate that there would be 5 auto's per case and we all know that that didn't happen.  One of my cases didn't have any

I only bring this up because I am sure everyone is going to be feeling the itch with this initial info.  I know I wasn't the only one who had this experience.  I sure hope we get a REALISTIC number on the amount of cases that they are going to make.  Although I think we were told it was going to be around 800 cases of POAU.  And that number kept going up but by that time I think most of us had already placed our preorders.  Well I guess only time will tell, but I hope no one has to experience that again.  I was so upset that I had spent all that money (I figured it was a safe investment of money and I would have spares worth something in trade or sale :'() and had a load of cards most of which weren't worth much.  As some will remember I was MIA from the board for a couple months, I almost gave up card collecting. 

I hope this never happens to anyone who loves collecting HP again.  For what it is worth just a buyer beware warning on GOFU.  Lastely IMO they will never do that (well to the magnitude of more than 2,000 cases) again, although I wouldn't be surprised to see 1000.

I agree I want to hear a confirmed number before committing to ordering. I know Julie would like the GOF Radcliffe to go with Her POAU One but We will See.

I think everyone would agree on that or they would never be able to sell another set again.  However I think we should also expect that it will be more than 600 cases GOF was.  The big question is what is the right amount and what is too much.  They can probably make 1000 and sell out, but that doesn't mean much.  We have learned that selling out from Artbox doesn't tell us much about demand for the product.

I hope it is no more than 800 then there should be enough out there that everyone can get what they want and cards will still have some value.

I'm am absolutely certain that Artbox is well aware of the POAU fiasco and resulting collector's disapproval (well, perhaps that is saying it lightly).  But I think Artbox also realizes that Harry Potter is their only (currently) successful franchise license.  So essentially, the company is going to sink or swim based on the success of HP cards.  As such, I would expect that they would be VERY careful and cautious about how they market and produce the sets. 

That being said, Artbox is also a subsidiary company to two of Japan's largest corporations (one of which being the world's largest supplier of paper, so we know that the cardboard doesn't cost Artbox much  ).  This could certainly come into play in the fact that these company's are not in jeopardy if Artbox fails.  I mean this in comparison to an independent card manufacturing company that relies on success to be sustaining. 

This is not to say that Artbox has poor management, rather it could be a reason as to why they seem less than concerned in some fields (advanced marketing, website, customer response), but still produce a quality product.

If whomever is behind the scenes at Artbox has any sense for business, we will not see a problem with overproduction in the future.  But I do agree that we may see a gradual rise in case production (in the range of 700-900 cases).

The thing that worries me the most about all of this is that they have included Daniel Radcliffe in the signing (well to be honest, I'm more excited than I am worried).  I expect that we will see either A) a scarcity of these autographs (ala Ron Redemptions in GoF) or B) a higher production run (on a similar, but lesser scale, to that of POAU).  The fact alone that he will be signing cards will create a buzz enough to sellout as many cases as they produce (but I assume they would sellout either way).

I really do believe (and I apologize for meandering here, but I didn't want to make several posts) that Artbox must produce a GoF set with a great variety of cards.  They need to throw some things at us that we didn't expect or haven't seen.  That, for me, will determine the success of GoFU and my future interest in Artbox purchases.

We did have it quite hard. But not like the dealers did.

From what I have heard I am sure they have plans to flood the market this year, but in a slightly crafty way - by producing lots of sets, this will be an interesting time for us all, but our HP money will be more thinly spread than in previous years, and less of my card money will be going into Potter this year (Evolution, LOST season 2, possibly some Family Guy 2 and Star Trek 40th anniversary etc etc and that will take some away).

Whilst Dan signing is very exciting, at the end of the day, he's a repeat signer. It's time to really crack down on some of the biggies, Hagrid, McGonagal, and Snape to name but 3. Some may say that this is impossible, I say they just need to keep trying.

Yeah Roz tell me about it. I REALLY like the death eater idea when I first heard about it from the GOF set....then I heard that it was "material used in making" and I was as excited, then I heard there would be two cards that feature the same swatch of fabric, just a different picture and numbered differently, and it really lowered my excitment.

I have to say though, hearing about a TOTALLY NEW Death Eater costume card really is making me want to pre-purchase some cases!

I really like the Voldemort costume though....I just hope it is the real thing.
I am actually really excited about Fleur and Cho signing though. After seeing the film (never read the books) those were the two I was most dissapointed NOT to see in GOF

Gotta say i love the HP items... although was burnt heavily with the POAU and Artbox are aware of this from all peoples....

POAU turned a tonne of people away from most series, including other releases such as Charlie.. they had troubles selling heaps at once, and relied on the biggies (from what i witnessed in Ebay) such as Tom, Kelly and a few others to take the bulk of order... If it wasnt for the bigger dealers supporting the companies and taking a "risk" on some lines the product wouldnt move....

Roz... When you get Lost 2 & Family Guy 2.. post pics, post pics.. i have just ordered some Family Guy 1 and hope to get a SETH AUTO  or praying i should say 

Not sure what to collect this year though, manufacturers are really getting to me with all these Series (concurrent to boot such as rittenhouse).. Will pursue no Artbox, will go for Family Guy 2, Lost 2, Battlestar Colonial, Battlestar Season 1, Star Trek 40th.... Roz, you know anything about inserts for Family Guy 2?

As someone who could never afford to buy a Radcliffe auto on the secondary market, I'm thrilled to have another chance at pulling one.  I'd also love to see a Peter Pettigrew auto.  We have the other Marauders and it would be nice if Timothy Spall signed, too.

I certainly can I'm not up to pre-ordering or anything yet though we'll have to wait and see what's in it I'm not a huge fan, but I like sketches and Mark (MakTheYak - our webmaster) likes the show I think.

Touch wood, Art Box seem to be doing a bit better these days. A costume in every box (as far as I know) for GOF was good. Do you think they have actually been listening to us
