The book store where I got my OotP had a Harry Potter party. They had rounds of Trivial questions and gave the winners Harry Potter promo prizes.  The party started at 8 PM and started selling books at midnight. People who had registered had received  color coded reservation cards in the mail to determine their place in line. Good thing there was a coffee shop and big comfort rooms. I took my 9 year old and we had grea fun. He can't stay awake for New Years midnight but, for Harry Potter he was wide awake. All in all, it was a great night. We are re-reading OotP again in prep for HBP.

But is that Ginny?  There's a debate going on at the Leaky Caudron about who that girl could be.  Lily Potter had red hair, too...

On first looking at it, I thought the two people to the left of the pillar were Ron and Hermione... is this the general consensus?

I am putting my money on the woman on the right of the pillar as Lily - we were told that her green eyes would play an important role in the last two books... the cover has alot of green on it... also her figure is not as solid or defined as the other characters... like you are looking at her through some mist... or a Pensieve... or the mysterious Veil...

The suspense is killing me Undecided

Did anyone else notice the Death Eater symbol to the left of the "Who is the Half-Blood Prince" logo?  I just saw it now.

I think the two people on the left are Ron and Hermione, too.

Uh oh - before you know it Harry will find he has a brother 10 months younger than he, and he's  running about the land trying to create a Philosopher's Stone (after all he knows they exist) with an arm and a leg missing  Roll Eyes

Yes, I noticed that too... and what do you think those silhouetted buildings are from? They don't look like Hogwarts to me - more like a street or village - Godric's Hollow? Grimmauld place? Little Hangleton? London?

Its no use looking at the international edition for clues - apparently Mary GrandPre has read the book but not the illustrator for the international edition. So the clues (if there are any!) are in the US release...

So many questions just looking at the cover Smiley

I read somewhere that Mary GrandPre has never read the books before doing her illustrations.

I had her confused with the UK cover artist.  This was in a story about Grandpre's OOTP cover at the Leaky Caudron:

Unlike the UK artist, Mary has read the entire book, and the cover illustration is, therefore, inspired by her read of OoTP.

It could be that, too.  The two sets of buildings are pretty much a mirror image of each other, although I don't know if that means anything.

Although to be fair we don't have illustrations at the beginning of each chapter, so really that is why the UK Artist does not have the book before release Smiley.

Hmm...this has me thinking (a fairly dangerous situation, I'll admit).  Roz and FTY, would it be safe to assume that any thread about the HBP is a spoiler area, and if people don't want to be tipped off about the plot or storylines, they shouldn't read the threads?

I remember how bad it was just before OOTP came out, and how angry I was that I stumbled across a post on another message board that said who died.  I will be staying far away from several sites, because I don't want any surprises ruined.

How did you find out before hand? I do avoid the spoilers thread. I need to be good or I'm like a moth to a flame and then I am worrying about things Roll Eyes

I saw a message on another board that wasn't labeled properly (such as *spoiler* or *the death*), and I read it.  The author said he'd gotten a copy early from a book seller and posted the name of the person who died.  Since it was one of my favorite characters, I didn't even want to read the book when I got it.

I don't want to spoil my enjoyment of the next two books, so while I'll look at the artwork or even read info that Scholastic and Bloomsbury release, I won't read any posts on the subject once the printing begins.
