Late in the day, I know but..........

Isn't it true that JKR says the story-line of Book 6 is linked to CoS - not that the character of the HBP appears there?

Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree and its an entirely new character?  One of Harry's ancestors - grandfathers, perhaps?
Or a blood link between Harry and Voldemort?

I wonder if she reads this speculation! What are we all going to do when the series ends? It doesn't bear thinking about!

Yes the HBP storyline was originally a side story in CoS... so there is a chance they didn't appear at all in CoS

She may hint at him though...

I say Dean Thomas is a strong contender though when I learned that he lived with his muggle mum and step-father

His father was a wizard killed by Voldemort and his death eater when he refused to join them - he kept his magical identity from his family secret in order to protect them

Still a while yet before the series ends - don't worry Grin

According to mugglenet, 2 guests at the Edinburgh festival talked to JK separately and she told both of them that Hagrid is NOT the HBP

Of course, this really means nothing as we don't know the truthfulness of the 2 guests. To me, it seems unlikely that JK would rule out a major contender for so definitively. So both mugglenet and I say - take this as an interesting rumour only Wink

Well I agree.. it's cast a shadow of doubt over Hagrid but not entirely totally and utterly ruled him out  Wink

There are a few halfblooded students buti would chose Dean Thomas too, but i think we must wait.

(by the way the german title is Kammer des Schreckens = Chamber of the fright and not Chamber of Secrets = Kammer der Geheimnisse)

So i dont know if informations get lost within the translation of the books

Hey T&F,

I think you may be onto something there, and I am sure it depends on who translated it. I haven't read the German version (I wouldn't be up to it) but I read the French versions of the first 3 books on holiday once and I have to say there weren't any major or worrying changes, just simple things like you talk of here!

i have to agree with roz here about maybe its hagrid, although i dont understand y u say his not a traditional half blood i mean i know its always meant to be half muggle half wizard, but half bloof actually means to have half wizard blood in u, and also jk sed that harry discovers something in Cos that helps or has something to do with wot he finds out in HBP, and if u recall he found out alot about hagrid that year, well its an idea ne way.

i wud like to add that we are all under the speculation or most of us ne way, that the half bllod prince is someone already in the books. and another titbit i wud add is that jk has stated that the mirror sirius gave harry in OoTP ( we are all sad he died i know  Sad ..) wud not have helped the way we thought it wud help, but it will help him alot more than we think, and we will find out more in books 6 and 7,let me know wot u think.............................................. also i have a feeling that perhaps aunt petunia maybe a a witch but as she detests the wizarding world decided to not go to hogwarts, my reason for this is jk woz asked if petunia woz a squib and all she sed woz no but.........., let me know wot u think of this too

From mugglenet:

HBP publication date rumors: June 2005
Someone in a position to know (whose name we obviously can't reveal) has given us word that Scholastic is planning for a mid-June 2005 release for book six, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. More specifically, they are considering June 11th and June 18th - both Saturdays.

As always, treat this as a rumor until we can get real confirmation, which in this case will most likely come from JK Rowling's official site.

My two cents: Call it wishful thinking, this time frame seems pretty logical to me. Consider: a June 2005 release would be 2 years after book 5 - ample time to finish a story that is supposed to be significantly less than OOTP (many estimates have it at half the length). She wrote GOF in 1 year, if you remember, and had to re-write half the book because of a gaping plot hole. Granted, that was under different circumstances, but it just shows that we shouldn't underestimate her. It took JKR 3 years to write the monster that is OOTP and that was with extremely long breaks from writing. Jo does have a baby due this spring, but she has said repeatedly that it will not delay the book's release.

I think it would be great if Petunia was a witch and has been keeping it to herself.  How interesting!!!

As for the length of this book, now that we knjow it has a July release, do you really think it will be half the length of OOTP?  That would only make it 400+ pages.  I hope it is at least 600.  The longer the better if you ask me.  Just more for me to read and get caught up in.

The American publisher, Scholastic, confirmed the 672 pages a day or two ago.  There's been no word from the Bloomsbury about the length of the UK book.

Just got back from shopping and WH Smith has an offer on that for £1 deposit you get the HBP for £9.99 instead of £16.99 when it is published on 16th July. No mention of any give away items like mugs etc. and the offer ends 2nd April. Has anyone else seen any other offers?

Yeah I picked up their bookmark for that yesterday lunchtime... that seems good - same price as Amazon.co.uk and you can be sure to have it on the day.

It's also cheaper than play.com Wink

But I wonder if we'll find any better offers  Smiley

I'll check Waterstones today to see if they're doing any offers or not and let you know. Wink

They probably won't know if there's any giveaway stuff at Smiths till nearer the release date.

I didn't bother pre-ordering my copies of OotP ... just sent my other half out to queue for it at Waterstones the evening it was released!  Tongue
HeeHee .... it was great getting a phone call at half past twelve at night letting me know he'd got it! Grin

Wouldn't it be interesting if the HBP turned out to be a ghost or an animal?

Also, who is going to take care of BuckBeak now?

I think that the House of Black will collapse, due to the infestation of Bundimuns, and kill Kreatcher.  Maybe Buckbeak will be able to fly away for parts unknown before the house can crush him.  Which means, of course, that he'd be able to turn up again at some pivotal point in the story!

I think that Sirius will have 'willed' the house to Harry and that Harry will want the Order to carry on using it as it's base.

I wonder who will be the new MoM?

Maybe Buckbeak will excape from Grimmauld Place and fly back to Hogwarts and join Grawp in the Forbidden Forest?

Questions, questions ....

Oh, while I remember ~ I went and asked at Waterstones at the weekend ... the pre-order cost for the HBP is £2, which in turn knocks two quid off the price of the book when you go and buy it. The chap I asked couldn't tell me how much they'd be selling it for and didn't think they'd know till the very last minute once they knew what the other retailers would be selling it for, so it's not too helpful really.
Asda had huge queues outside for the release of the OotP and had both covers available too, so I might 'persuade' my other half to go there instead! LOL Wink
